The story instances themselves? Both expansions seemed on par in that regard to me.

@"Etria.3642" said:Get some experience under your belt, learn, gear. It'll be a whole new game. And then you can join the others on the forums saying how easy it all is.

I always found it impossible to take seriously "It's too easy!" coming from players in top end gear who know the mechanics inside and out. (It gets even harder to not roll your eyes when you're watching them float above the events out of harm's way on their skyscales.)

  2. @Tommo Chocolate.5870 said:I used to enjoy them for the spectacle, but as the game has become more awash with excessive spell effects, that spectacle has greatly diminished, and I often can't actually see the enemies. I once did Serpent's Ire and in the final battle my screen was completely white - all I could see was the bosses' health bars and defiance bars.

This is a massive problem that needs dealing with ASAP. It's been going on for far too long.

  3. Over the past six months I've hopped to the EU servers and back to the NA ones in the hopes of the connectivity problems clearing up. Right now I get fewer four digit ping spikes. But do I get disconnected every time I use a jackal portal. If there's more than ten players doing an event, same.

AFAIK Amazon's servers are usually prime targets for online attacks. I'm willing to bet Anet knows it's affecting a number of players but they can't do anything.

  4. I like them. Overall they're a good way to gain some XP and loot. If I had my way every map would have a SW or DF type of map-wide event chain leading to the local world boss.

For example, here's a simple one for a starter zone:

    1. Lionguard Cody stationed at Twinspur Haven says, "I'm tired of this Svanir blockade!' You escort them to Crossroads Haven clearing the roadblocks out.
    2. At crossroads haven you do the defense against the Sons event as normal.
    3. Lionguard Cody gets some info about Kernnak. Another escort through the Wurmhowl Spikes to Kernnak's Homestead.
    4. Defense against grawl as normal.
    5. Scholar Brogan as normal.
    6. Svanir Shaman or dragon totem as normal.
    7. Lionguard Cody needs escort north to a starting point for the assault on Svanir's Dome.
    8. Svanir's Dome as normal. Ale fists and ale eyes for all.

Like DF or SW completing these events should net you some "phat lewt" for that level since even a simple circuit like this could take up a good chunk of your play time. A lot of maps do have something like this (Harathi Hinterlands) but something in the coding makes them feel so disconnected you don't know you're done with Lionguard Cody or not. Maybe some sort of icon over their head letting you know there's an event chain attached to them?

  5. @Solvar.7953 said:I suspect PvE players doing other game modes are in some way forced into it. I can't speak for all PvE players, but pretty much the only time I touch WvW or PvP is for an easier daily than what PvE offers, or in the case of WvW, if I need the gift of battle for a legendary..

I enter PvP to test a build against the golems. I enter WvW to grab ranger pets and spend currency I keep accumulating for some reason. Same with the PvE modes.

One single strike because Anet locked Almora's final story behind it but I won't be doing the next story they hide behind a strike because it was a chore. Like trying to do Octovine with people who wont wait for the burn signal... Ugh.

  6. @"Terra.9506" said:I wish the game will offer more map like Dragon Fall where build around "Main" dynamic event lead up to final grand event and mean while also provide optional event around the area. include some strong Champion which quite challenge to solo.

Both DF and SW should be the models for how the map events should be put together going forward. I'm hoping Woodland Cascades follows them instead of having things on a once-every-few-hours like some other map metas I could name.

  7. IIRC even at the game's height of popularity the side content never had anywhere near a majority of players darkening their towels. Splitting off the dev's resources and manpower from the game's main selling points to please a crowd much louder than they are numerous is a big "Nah, son."

That having been said, the side content should have something new added every development cycle. It's only reasonable. Like how McDonald's keeps the Fillet-o-fish on their menu: Someone will want to eat it.

  8. @"Wraith.8127" said:I'm just sad. I got air vented out of the HoT boss fight last night.

I completed Mordy once. I didn't fight it once. I just completed it once. I'd say it was the boss fight that made me start my "once chance" policy towards bosses in the game. ANet need to go over it and clean it up at some point. TBH a lot of older content needs a pass.

As for you, I say just continue the story as normal. Unlock the S3 and S4 maps and get the portals to them for easy dailies.

  9. @"Obfuscate.6430" said:I don't think "hard" content is bad at all.

I agree, each development cycle should have something for everyone.

As pretty as the recent maps are I'd prefer more maps akin to HoT: Punishing if you get cocky. Jolly fun to poke around in if you keep your wits about you. (Though mounts have pretty much trivialized a lot of the dangers of those maps.)

I just don't have the time to dedicate any more to learning how to play through it.

For me the effort required does not equal reward received so it's a non-starter.

I wish there was a difficulty setting for raids like fractals has, so I could at least, at my own pace + in the time I have available, enjoy that content too.

Anet's fear of going back and updating old content is probably why they never did something that obvious instead of building an entire new game mode like they did.

  10. I do agree that Braham getting those powers of the spirits was suspiciously easy. However Braham has already "betrayed" The Commander (I don't agree with the general community assessment of him during S3 but it is what it is) so I have my doubts that Anet will have him go that route again. I do think he's going to get written out since his current arc seems to point towards it, but I don't think him falling to Jormag is going to be how they do it.

That having been said, I'm willing to place money on the idea that Anet will make it look like he fell. Maybe with Taimi and Rox making a comeback to snap him out of it? As cliche as it is I'm a bit of a sucker for THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP. I guess it depends if Anet's writers are too.

I also agree that Jormag is on the up and up about wanting to work with Aurene. The world has changed and the smart ED will change with it. Especially since The Commander has three elder dragons, one human god, several lieutenants, and literally thousands of minions (and technically, one immortal lich) on their kill score card. They're just really bad at asking nicely because they've spent tens of thousands of years taking.

TBH, if they are going to have anyone in our krewe fall I think it'll be Rytlock. He's got a lot on his plate and he has been going off the rails pretty hard. He literally did betray and try to kill The Commander last episode. I suppose there is Jory but she recognized that she was compromised immediately and stayed behind at the keep.

    Anyway, good theorizing.

  11. @"Elden Arnaas.4870" said:While this current story-gating "strike" is not really representative of what strikes actually are, I think that this is going to escalate

The thing is Steel and Fire is the epitome of optional. It holds nothing of substance in regards to the game story. If Darkrime was a strike, then I'd see a basis for your concern.

In the end, if Anet starts locking story behind raids then all you do is walk away and go play something else more suited to you. I will.

  12. @Elden Arnaas.4870 said:I have participated in raids and strikes, and I do not like the style of game play - I think it is very un-fun.

I have the same reasons for not wanting to play that sort of content. Having played PvP in the past is why I don't PvP in GW2 either.

    BUUUUUUUUUTTTT~

The game has been lacking content for people who do want to group up for a while now. I can accept that this content isn't being made for me and that's cool. If there's story locked behind it I can watch Kroof or Mukluk or WP or someone else do a LP and get caught up on it. Only time will tell if this push works for Anet, but for me it won't. That's cool too. There will be something for me next month with episode 3.

unfortunately forum rules do not let me edit my original post title, content or anything else, i would have done it long ago, to get ride of the "smart" ones who like only to create arguments from everything around them :(

It's a pity the moderating is done by bot here. You could have asked one of them to do it.

  14. I'm still thinking we're losing Braham. He's been undergoing a big redemption arc and they've been putting a lot of work into shoring up how important The Commander is to him. Braham may die or he might become some sort of avatar of the spirits, but I think his days with us are numbered since his story looks like it's going to wrap up.

Rytlock has only just started on his fall (no one has called him out on his recent behaviour yet) and the others are too new (not that Anet doesn't have a history of introducing someone just to be killed off) so I think all of our fuzz 'n' fang friends are going to be okay.

Unless Anet tries to outdo the shock of The Crystal Dragon and leaves the Commander alone in a pile of the corpses of their friends while Jormag LoLs off to Cantha.

  15. @"kharmin.7683" said:So what happens a year from now when most players aren't playing on this map any longer and new players are struggling to find a group for this content in order to progress their story?

This is the greatest issue the game faces IMO. Even with a new expansion on the horizon the game will never have the same population it did back in 2012. It will continue to decline down to a core of devoted players like every other MMO as they age. Right now there are way too many pieces of content in the game that require a solid team, an uber player in uber gear, or a sizable zerg to complete. (I still haven't been able to finish Triple Trouble. Admittedly it's mostly due to it not popping during my play time, but half the time I'm online and it's active the map is dead.)

Making them part of the daily system so the map will be populated enough seems to me to be Anet's plan. I assume Bjora's Marches and these "Visions" will be added to the rotation as well. But this seems like a bandaid rather than curing the core problem of the future needing these to be done with only one or two players.

ETA; I do think that if they're going to do that all of the season maps need the "Finish Three Achievements" method attached to them. Grothmar has it. No reason the other dailies can't.
