  1. Meh, I've been off and on, on this game clearly. Stuff changed. Not really my fault this game can't keep everyone's attention span forever. Anyways... If PoF, and HoT are what I need to do in order to get Hero Skills, or points whatever you all have me confused on calling them now, then I suppose I must.

Kind of odd that they would increase the Hero Point gain in expansions (Due to Elite traits I know), but then have the core game still 1 Hero point at a time. Oh well, won't change my new char from doing the story I suppose.

  2. @"Davros.9823" said:As you mentioned, you currently have hit a little wall with Mastery points and unlocking new masteries.

How the mastery system works is you have 4 different Mastery pages (one fore core, HoT, PoF and icebrood) these pages all get xp seperatly. Each one has multiple mastery lines. And it is all account bound.

To unlock a mastery first you have to get enough xp to fill the bar (lvl up) then you can use your mastery points to unlock it permanantly on all of your characters.

If you fill up a bar and don't have enough mastery points to unlock it you can't progress further in that line, so your xp bar stays full.

Luckily there are several mastery lines, so if one is capped just swap to another and fill up that bar. Then look up what you nees to do to get the mastery points. There are way more mastery points available than you can actually use.

    Hope this helps

This is pretty much what I was wondering. My exp bar is capped then, because all the "Core" masteries I have are full, but can't proceed without more Mastery points.

So basically, the only way to get Hero/Skill points is through maps now? Thus map exploration/events/basically anything other than Hero Points in maps are pointless for characters at lvl 80 now? No wonder I see nothing but people flying around just hunting Hero Points, cause that's all there is to do with new characters.

    Thanks.

  3. @"Randulf.7614" said:Can’t you play for the content and not the xp? I mean I maxed out masteries and although I get spirit shards after that (which I have no use for), xp is mechanic I just ignore.

Your Xp bar not budging should in no way take anything away from whether the content itself is enjoyable or not surely?

Also I think you might be confusing hero points and mastery points. You seem to ramble a bit so I’m not sure if you are confusing the two or not. Hero points have nothing to do with levelling and are a sep progression system from capping certain map points marked and putting those points into your skill tree. They carry over from core campaigns and expansions hence why you had some to quickly max an elite

Mastery points work with your mastery Xp bar to progress account based generic skills like mounts, gliders, auto loot etc

What do you mean Hero Points carry over?

I could max out a class, and obtain hero points, which would then carry over to a new character? I have deleted a few lvl 80's before due to boredom, are you saying that's why I was able to max out my Renegade Elite trait?

Also, the content gets incredibly boring when the ONLY reason you're redoing the content is to max out another character, because you don't want to use a tome to insta level 80 yourself. So no, I can't play the game just for the content when it's the same exact thing, over, and over again. Especially when the majority of the content comes from the maps themselves, and events happening, and being level 80, you're rewarded with absolute trash that you can't even sell on the Market, and or use.

So when you cut the majority of maps /the game itself out, only to run around and gather Hero Points, one could very well see how boring that actually becomes.

I'm not one of those people who care a whole lot about Guild Wars 2 capping you out at level 80, and how majority of the stuff now is simply cosmetics, but when you're not really obtaining anything worth your time, the point of the game becomes stale.

I'm almost positive Guild Wars 2 has seen it's highest playerbase when the game launched, probably lasted a year tops, I know I was gone long before a year hit. When HoT came out, and the new class/elites came out, and when PoF came out. Soon afterwards dying down to players who have stuck around this long.

Heck, maybe the Quarantine has boosted Guild Wars 2's population, but we all know that's not going to last either.

Again, no hate towards the game itself, it's fun to hop back into every once in a while, (apparently not long enough to notice this until now) but, you can't even call Guild Wars 2 a social "Hub" since no one talks in it either, unless they're already in a guild or Discord Channel, etc, etc.

I wasn't confusing Hero Points, I simply call them skill points, because that's what they are. Mastery Points I might still be confused on sure.

I guess the main point is/question was; "am I capped with experience being stuck at 2.54 mill now?". Kinda seems like the answer is yes. And it very much can effect and take away from the enjoyment. Even if it's meant to be a "False" sense of progression, at least it was still there.

  4. Hello all,

So being away for a long time, and never really doing anything past the base game, let alone mastery points (thought I think I get the gist of them), my experience bar has Halted at 2.54 million.

I tried asking in the game, but I feel like no one could really explain it well, or I just wasn't understanding all too well.

To me, leveling up a new character, and being able to continue leveling up and gaining "Hero Points"/Skill points every time I leveled felt nice, or at least I think I was earning Hero points anyways, maybe I wasn't, and I was just getting a sense of progression due to every so often seeing the experience go from full to empty.

So, got bored of playing my Renegade in the past week or so, and thought to level up a Necromancer due to never have played one, but always wanting to try.

So I leveled my Necromancer to lvl 80, got a little ways into the Reaper skill tree (Forgot they wouldn't allow you to save points for Elites, without spending EVERY SINGLE POINT on stuff i WON"T USE), and after level 80, I still seen my bar progressing from empty to full, back to empty again, and now just today I've noticed it just capped out at 2.54 million experience.

My mastery rank is 18, and I've no more mastery points to throw into the Masteries that already have a full experience bar, as it requires me to have more points in order to obtain said masteries.

Now my problem is, I just suddenly feel no need to do anything with my Necromancer now, or even on my Renegade as I've swapped back to the Renegade for a brief moment to see if my experience bar really was capped. Which it is.

Anyways, I'm someone who enjoys going from map to map, and completing them with new characters, leveling them up through hearts/completions, but seeing as my experience bar just won't budge anymore, I'm turned off, and no longer feel any need to do the maps now. It's basically turned into a mindless game of "Go and find Hero points now, because doing anything related to experience would be absolutely useless after level 80".

This of course is just how I'm feeling right now. I'm not even halfways through the maps with my Necromancer yet, and already hit level 80 plus the little ways I am into the Reaper Elite trait line, within a couple of days. And again, seeing my experience bar just straight up stop, really gives no motivation to continue playing past this point at all.

Sure I could do the HoT, and PoF expansions seeing how I've never actually done anything as of yet, except what Little I have in Dry Top, but making characters, and leveling up/gaining skill points for new classes is just sometimes more fun, and a much needed break from playing something already maxed out. Not even sure how I got that many skill points to max out my renegade, if I did it without touching a single expansion (Other than to get the class/raptor mount), I shouldn't be forced into doing them now to gain skill points/Hero Points.

Again, just how I feel. Might drop this game and move on for another 3-4 years, come back and see if GW 2 is still alive or not.

  5. @"NecroSummonsMors.7816" said:Core necromancer has a strong hybrid component to its gameplay, so you are kinda forced if you wanna maximize dmg to go hybrid equipment but you become squishy.Keep in mind condi core necro is a tank(rabid/dire gear or trailblazer) with no that high damage but you have so much armor and vitality that it's difficult to die.If you consider going Reaper I would advise you to start getting berserker gear before and after level80, so that you are basically already on the mindset of a power reaper. You can still keep playing power minion mancer if you want it's probably the strongest option in open world pve, in case you don't like it here a build you can tryhttp://gw2skills.net/editor/?PSAFgE25WZGsE2BDhdij0k3qE-e you can use golem too if you need to break bars, but lich with grimspecter that steal vitality if you are surrounded by can be usefull.

I try to refrain from looking up builds, I don't find premade stuff any fun, and it doesn't help me learn. Thanks though, to everyone.

I suppose I'm not used to being so "Tanky", well at least not in a game that doesn't revolve around a "Holy Trinity".

Necro is still fun, I suppose I'm just not used to such a weak class. Didn't really want to make a Necro for Afk farming, but kinda seems like that's their only saving grace right now.

Oh well, I'm sure it'll pick up once I swap to a Reaper. I heard Scourge got nerfed into the ground a while back, so, that's pretty much what deters me from even attempting to throw any points into it as of yet.

Thanks again all. If no weapon really has any value to core Necro, suppose I'll tough it out with what I'm currently using (Dagger/Focus). Long Cooldown times bore me, especially after the Renegade/Reveneant being able to turn on and off certain skills at will (Mainly Mallyx and stacking 30 Torments to groups).

  6. Hello all,

So I've finished World completion on my Revenant/Renegade now. Thought I might try out a new class.

So, Necromancer has always been on my list ever since the Beta/Launch of the game, but I was having too much fun with Warrior, Guardian, and as soon as HoT came out, tried Revenant, left for a few years, came back, and fully stacked my Renegade build into "Condition" (Damage over time). Now with my Renegade, I'm not even "Geared" out, mainly have rings/accessories/weapons, but not armor, or runes that boost condition damage, so again, not "Geared" by any means. However, with the combo rotation I'm using with Mace/Axe/Short bow, my Renegade can easily achieve 2-3K damage per tick, of Torment, and Fire damage. and usually around 500-1K per tick with poison damage. So stacking all these together, I'm able easily to take out groups, elites, and even some champion monsters/enemies with ease.

So, beginning a Necromancer (Core class), I started from level 1, and am currently lvl 72, however, I'm struggling to find any good weapons for this core class. I do plan on going "Reaper" once I reach level 80, and have saved up plenty of skill points.

Right from the get go, I knew I pretty much wanted to focus my Necromancer around you know... What Necromancers do, and summon minions. The survivability is great with how I have my Necromancer built thus far, and I don't really have any problem taking out Champion creatures at all, where I would struggle on a few with my Renegade. While this is all fine and great, as mentioned above, I've been struggling to find any real damage to be dealt by the Core class itself.

At the beginning, I started out using Dagger (Main hand), and Focus (Off hand), which seemed to be the highest damage dealing weapon I could possibly find, with the shortest cooldowns as well. As I started to get higher into the levels, I asked around in map chat and such, asking what the best weapon for a Necromancer would be, and got very mixed opinions on pretty much every weapon. Some people say the staff is the best, some say Scepter, even the Axe came up here and there, but never a Dagger. So, I did a bit of research, and found out that the Dagger (Main hand), seems to give the most life force, while the Staff is used simply to "Tag" trash monsters, which from swapping between these weapons, and trying it out for myself I could pretty much see, especially from the very beginning the Staff never really felt like it did anything to good.

I got down to a pretty simple rotation which seems to work for any weapon really, I would simply pull groups of enemies, use the staff Signet traps, swap to my dagger, go into Dark Shroud form, and use the #4 skill Life Drain or whatever it's called, then use the #5 skill, which casts torment on enemies, and soon afterwards blows up. This usually kills the group of enemies I'm fighting, and I soon afterwards continue to build up Lifeforce with the Dagger.

The reason I mentioned my Renegade at the beginning, is because from what I've looked up, a lot of people seem to say a "Condition" necromancer is good. So, I tried stacking as much Condition damage as possible on my lvl 72 Necromancer, and I have to say, I'm disappointed. In comparison to even the base Revenant class, the Scepter only targets one enemy at a time, where the Revenant's Condition damage targets anything in a straight line, and the mace's normal attack hits multiple enemies, stacking even more condition damage, and again the damage the Revenant/Renegade is doing per tick is around 2-3K per tick of fire damage, and Torment, with 500-1000 being Poison (Due to my ruins on the mace).

So I suppose what I'm getting at as the title mentions, does the Core Necromancer solely focus on minions for damage? Because every other weapon feels incredibly weak. I do very much like being able to survive majority of champions I've ran across so far, but I can't help but think the Necromancer (Core class), is nothing but a utility, which makes me question whether or not any of the subclasses (Scourge/reaper) are going to be any different.

This of course is meant to be directed towards PvE.

  7. Hello all,

So, finally finished World Completion after 8 years, probably around 2-3 years, on and off at a time, and honestly, I could have done it a lot sooner, if I hadn't deleted my previous character, as the only maps I was actually missing was the main cities, and it was the last thing I did on my current lvl 80 (MR 17 now).

After asking around the forums, and following the advice of people to continue the story/maps in order, I finally moved onto Living Story 2 (as I missed the first one, kind of wish I didn't now, seeing the Recap video and all), and wow. I can totally tell why people are calling this game a platformer now.

This is coming from someone who's just come brand new to this particular map, and living stories in general, as I've missed them all (buying LS 2-4). At first, I thought the map was cool, and as per usual, I don't read instructions or anything, so I noticed the little glowing points, and after around 10 minutes of playing around with them, finally realized what they were actually for, and how the mechanic works.

It's an interesting Mechanic, and I guess it came before the HoT, and PoF, so, no mounts were really present (correct me if I'm wrong). I had around 20-30 minutes of entertainment with this, until pretty much "everything" required you to use this mechanic. I don't know about anyone else, but when I first enter a new map for the first time, the thing I want to accomplish first, is the map completion, so I have everything complete, and then I can proceed with the story, going from waypoint, to waypoint as required. 30 minutes was enough time for me to realize, now that we have access to mounts and such, that this mechanic becomes increasingly annoying.

The first area of Dry w/e the map is called was straight forward, and for the most part, it was simply following the glowing spots from point to point, until you get further into it, and the jumping points on the ground start to make less, and less sense, almost as if someone just randomly scattered them on the ground. A perfect example, would be this one area, where there's a Blue jump point, that seems to have you jump straight up onto a mountainous area, with a purple Jump point, that seems to lead no where. When you go on the ground, and actually look at the Jump Lines, it looks like it was intended for you to actually climb this mountain from point to point, which is fine and all. The problem is, you're not able to go from point to point, because each point above the other on the mountain is covered by a ceiling like area, and to my knowledge, you can't use the jump colors in a combo, such as "Dash", then "Jump", or something like that.

So back to google I go, trying to look at how to get to this certain hero point with no avail. I must've spent at least 40 minutes trying to figure this out, and thought to myself, "This is absolutely no fun". The gimmick became old incredibly fast, again it's probably due to being spoiled with mounts and such, but what makes this even worse, is these jump points are again, like Orr was, littered with enemies nearby, and anytime you need to make a jump, or need the speed while jumping, a monster always interrupts you, slowing you down by 50%, thus, not being able to make the jump. So I need to spend time to go kill said monster, wait another 10 seconds for the game to finally recognize that I am out of combat, and start over. But wait, if you screw up, guess what? You have to repeat that entire process again.

I could just be tired from the lack of sleep I've been getting, but, I just don't think this mechanic is any fun, and I'm starting at this point to agree, this game has turned into one massive platformer. I hope Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, and the rest of the Living Story season's aren't like this. I got so fed up with it, I made a new character (Necro), and had more fun leveling that up, and am already lvl 26, after 2, and half hours. (I don't believe in using my Tomes to Insta 80, it's boring, and I like to learn my class).

These are just my thoughts. If the other expansions, and Living Stories are like this, I might as well head out for another 3 years, and see if this game is still around then.

  8. @Lamont.5973 said:do you have to kill the mobs to get that hero point or is it just mobs sitting on a commune point? If the latter, you might try getting a couple of spy kits from Ashford and use the invisibility to commune with the point.

Thanks, I did not know about invisibility kits.

@"costepj.5120" said:I have a character permanently parked in Malchor's Leap (EU) because it is such a good farming map. I do group events there most days. I certainly wouldn't call it a dead map.

Orr on the US servers is pretty barren. I ran a few of my friends through the story at about 7pm eastern time like..two weekends ago, and almost all of the events where either in their failure state and waiting to be taken back, sitting in camps not being triggered or laying dead right outside of the starting location for the event.

My point exactly. So everytime someone create's a new character, and wants something such as a Hero Point, and a Group Event is sitting right on top of it, it becomes a challenge. (US Servers).

My work in real life consists of varying hours, depending on the job I'm doing, Sometimes it's night shifts, sometimes it's days, sometimes I'm "On Call". Thus I can't very well be on 24/7, or during prime/peek hours to find a party.

These are old maps that as mentioned before, even in the earlier stages of Guild Wars 2, no one really cared about. They offer no "Hearts", and are mainly "Exploration" maps, thus, there is no reason to really be there. This is especially true with the expansions, and the maps they have to offer as well.

Again, it's simply my opinion that some of these events should just straight up have timers, or be revamped somehow. Maybe add in some Npc's, and or buff the Npc's depending on the amount of Human players around said event. We all know when it comes to Group Events, and just events in general that the Npc's are absolutely useless, and die in around 5-6 hits, seriously... you have an army of Npc's sometimes VS 5 enemies, and they all die, I'm not even sure how that's possible, the odds are stacked against the enemies.

With this point, I'm not suggesting to buff their damage per-se, maybe increase their health pool though, so at least they can manage long enough for you to actually do something, and not be swarmed by everything within seconds.

I'd like to have Npc's return from Guild Wars 1, like recruit them, or have normal npc's be as useful as them, maybe give them skills or something, rather than attacking once, every two seconds, compared to enemies who attack once per seconds, and have a variety of skills.

  9. Hello all,

So, ever since coming back, I've been aiming towards "World Completion", which is great and all, nothing really seems to be too much of a challenge, however, I'm currently in Malchors reach, and the maps for older content has been for a lack of better words, "Dead" for however many years now, and just in general, when the game launched, and months, maybe even years afterwards, no one cares for the "Orrian" maps, because they consist of a lot of trash monsters that did/do nothing but knock you down, pull you in, etc, etc. Granted now, it's way less littered, so it seems at least the Devs listened somewhat I suppose.

Anyways, that aside, I'm trying to get a Hero Point in Malchor's Leap, it's the only one left I actually need in order to complete this map, which should bring me up to 92% ish World completion. The problem is; these Orrian maps, as mentioned before are just dead, you'll maybe find ten people running from Vista to Vista, but that's about it. So, why are there still "Group Events' that never seem to disappear unless they're complete, sitting on top of Hero points, full aware knowing they're insanely difficult to solo? The one in general I'm talking about is the Hero Point near Doric's Shrine, underneath the temple, where you have to kill three worshippers, two of them being "Elite" Status, and the final one being "Champion" status. This particular Worshipper in general, once the two Elites are dealt with, and even during, does nothing but cripple, and knock you down, while doing massive amounts of damage. I could maybe see if you were a Necro, Mesmer, or Ranger, using something to distract the Worshipper to quickly sneak in, and commune with the Hero Point, I however, am a Renegade, and don't have much in terms of distracting the enemy.

Another one of the Hero Points near Doric's Shrine had a "Champion" Harpy sitting on top of it, though I was able to manage to kite it to a nearby NPC, keeping it distracted long enough for me to grab that Hero Point.

It might have been suggested already (Most likely), but could we set a time limit of these "Group Events", or just move them period? It's very unappealing, and not really worth killing myself, or others who attempt to get there Hero Points, Vista's, etc, etc. Multiple times, just to run back, and attempt it over, and over.

This of course is my opinion.

  10. @Danikat.8537 said:There isn't really a set order to the maps. The personal story will lead you through a lot of different maps, and ends in Cursed Shore in Orr, but it won't cover all of them. So if you're doing maps as the story introduces you to them you'll end up in Cursed Shore but you'll have missed a lot of the lower level maps.

If you want to complete all the base game maps before going on to the expansions then you can do them in whatever order you like. You'll be down-levelled to the appropriate level for the map, but will get drops and XP for your level. They're all accessible at any time and aside from the story there is nothing to say you must go to them in any order. You could do them in order by level, or working your way around the world doing the closest map to the one you're in, or whatever makes sense to you.

The expansion maps aren't introduced until you start the expansion storylines. Like base game maps you can go there whenever you want (although getting to Elona without doing the PoF story could be tricky because they don't actually join up with the core Tyria maps) but the game won't send you to them until you're doing that expansions story.

    The story order goes:

    • Personal Story
    • Season 1 (recap video)
    • Season 2
    • Heart of Thorns
    • Season 3
    • Path of Fire
    • Season 4
    • Season 5 (aka Icebrood Saga)

Thank you for the Order. I just recently got the season's as well. I personally like to do things in order, or rather, I'm used to it from the launch of the game where you had to do maps via levels. Appreciate it.

  11. @"Veryl.7861" said:How can a toon be outdated? I can't deny I releveled my guardian and thief to 80 like three times but I regret this alot and misses anniversary presents this way.A toon can not be out of date, otherwise there are hairkits and makeover kits that'll make your toon shine...So NEVER delete toons... I learned this the hard way

My first character to level 80 was a Warrior, this was like a month after release. Took a break, came back, Warrior got nerfed into the ground, thus "Out-dated", and I deleted him.

Was not able to Solo any Gold Elite's anymore, nor was able to solo the halloween event like I used to before either. That pretty much killed the class for me, and I'll never regret deleting him either.

  12. Hello all,

So I've I've mentioned in previous posts of mine, I am a returning player, own both HoT, and PoF, but never actually did anything in those expansions other than grab the Raptor mount.

I've had a couple level 80's before, but deleted them since they were WAY outdated, and wanted to revisit the story again. Upon doing so the first few times, I usually tended to clear the world map first, and in this case, am doing so again.

So, I'd like to know at what point do the expansion maps start coming into play, I'd like to know if I'm close or not, before moving onto the expansion maps. I still have to complete the initial story again (right now I'm on level 70 one's, and am current lvl 80+ Master Rank 16 ish). The last place I recall before fighting Zhaitan was Orr or whatever it was called. That's pretty much where I left off after beating the story the previous times, again, aside getting the mount of course, which wasn't all too difficult.

All I have left to complete is Mount Maelstrom, and Straits of Devestation. Every other Zone after that is strictly level 80. So what's the last zone, before the expansions start?

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Whether or not it's an April Fools joke, I still use the Raptor.

Though, my reasoning is simply because I haven't beat HoT, or PoF, I simply got the Raptor mount, and left the expansions all together. Then I recently bought the Living World seasons, and after I did that looked up on how to go about unlocking a Skyscale, and chances are, I'll probably never unlock that mount, because it sounds like far too much effort than I'm willing to give Guild Wars 2.

  14. Hello all,

So after revisiting Guild Wars 2 after quite some time, and never actually being around when the Living Stories were actually introduced, or missing them entirely, I was wondering if it's worth getting the Living Stories Season 2-4. They're on a pretty good deal right now, and I still have around 4K gems from the previous time I have played Guild Wars 2, and was deciding to buy all three of them.

I guess my concerns are; is there anything to be obtained from doing these "Stories", items, gear, skins, etc, etc? And one other major concern I've noticed, is while hovering over the Living Stories, in yellow text, it states at least 2-3 episodes are NOT included within these purchases. I'm not too sure if this is simply because I have not beat HoT, or PoF, and maybe they'll unlock via that method, but, I'd rather not spend the gems, on the Living Stories, if I know content (at least 2-3 episodes) are not going to be in these packaged deals, at least not if they're important.

  15. Hello all,

So I've been around, on and off ever since the beta/Launch of Guild Wars 2. Recently I've just come back after a long time, or at least I think it's been a while. Last thing I did was get the new expansion, get a Raptor mount, and quit shortly after.

So, last time I played, my Revenant (Now a Renegade), used to be able to use stances without hurting himself, I would always use the Assassin Stance for mobility reasons, either to escape combat while you're NOT in combat.... Can't believe that hasn't changed in all these years, or simply to make a hasty retreat, and heal up, so I could head back into the fight.

My initial thought when I came back and seen that it added stacks of Torment was "Okay.... I can see how it was a little cheap before on the Assassin stance, and could see how PvP wise it would kind of be bad, sure... Lets make a penalty for using it", I suppose it made sense.

Then switching to the Dwarven stance, so I could use my spinning hammers to get rid of turrets and such quicker, because weapons/skills aren't exactly fast with the Revenant (Using Mace/Axe combo), and turrets seem to take a "Set" amount of damage, opposed to actually taking the full damage you're actually dealing.

Anyways, I just seen someone using the Assassin stance not too long ago, and he didn't have any Stacks of Torment at all while using the speed boost. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it now? It's kind of ruining my Dps, seeing how I recieve 6 stacks of torment in the matter of seconds.

  16. Guess I must be lucky.

I've done that dragon just once, noticed a mass group around the area while trying to finish the map. Killed it, and I got Teq's weapon box. Still not too sure if any of the weapons are good or not. So yay me I guess?

Kind of a Necro thread but meh, I wanted to see how rare it was.
