  1. Sounds like you have similar tastes to myself. I struggled to find a mage class that felt right and played well. But Firebrand feels like a cleric purifying the lands. And it's great for open world once you learn how to play it and equip it properly.
  2. I like the story. I'd love to read it. But I hate all mini-games. I hated playing as Caithe. I hate when the mechanics are changed for a story instance. So I want to skip all that nonsense. But I wanted to make sure I'm not missing out on anything (other than the story).
  3. I'm sure it's been asked and answered already. But I can't find it. Each LW episode for seasons 3 and 4 plus IBS unlocks a map, right? Once I get the map unlocked, I can stop playing the episode w/o repercussions, right? Is there anything else to unlock besides the maps? I like the storyline. I despise the way they executed it as a game. I want to play as little of the episodes as possible but I don't want to miss anything important.
  4. Thanks for all the feedback. It makes more sense. It still seems too clunky to be effective. It certainly isn't "just mash the keyboard" simple.
  5. So some mob do give xp. I assume they're the more fixed mobs like the centaurs or ogres at their camps. What's EBG?
  6. The idea of WvW is awesome. But it's pretty miserable to play if you're new to it. My WvW experience is 5 parts walking to 1 part getting killed. Follow the zerg? What zerg? There is no zerg. Take camps or sentries. That works occasionally when they aren't staked out by the enemy or taken out by a group of allies that just flew by me on their mounts. In other words, I have a chance to conquer something in 1 of 4 tries. I can usually take 2 ruins before I'm found and killed. I tried killing mobs. That didn't appear to do anything. What else is there? Are there ways to get XP/a mount/whatever in WvW that isn't a form of masocism?
  7. I'm guessing the issue is on their end. I just got booted and now the launcher can't even connect to check or updates - just stuck on the initial screen.
  8. Are there any sites where people share less than optimized builds? These builds are awesome but I don't have enough gold to buy the gear. I certainly don't have the gold to buy set after set of gear to experiment.
  9. Now that makes me curious. I wonder what are the actual resource gathering numbers.
  10. When was that? My internet is a bit erratic right now, but nothing that should come up as "no internet".
  11. Full code: 1101:4:5:4068:101 I was on all morning and then I started getting errors. A lot of 42s, a couple 7s, and a 58. Now it says I need to check my internet connection? How do I troubleshoot/fix this? All of my other programs seem to be running fine. (Yes, I tried turning everything off and then back on.) Win 10 playing build 119372
  12. It will certainly be a little different, but that info was more than enough to get me headed in the right direction. I was able to be understand some of the other videos/articles on scourges. For as much documentation as there is, there is still a lot of info that's buried. I didn't know that any shade skill triggers the burst. I didn't know that you count as a minion. A lot to digest. Thanks for the help!
  13. I've looked at dozens of condi scourge builds and I don't understand them. I want to try a condi build, I don't know what to do with it. You use curses to curse yourself and then try to transfer them to others? Is that the gimmick? Curses are in every build. Is there a way to do a condi build w/o it? I don't need help dying.
  14. I've been testing their builds. The problem I'm having with meta battle is that they don't always explain them well. Example: I simply don't understand Scourges. Your big power is a minion that doesn't move?
  15. I have a stack of 80s: soulbeast, necro/reaper/scourge, thief/deadeye, revenant. Which is the best for an average PvE player / new WvW player for roaming? Do you have any specific build recommendations? For zerg? Scourge? Any specific builds recommended for this? I know I should play whatever I like, but I'd also like to not die and spend all my time walking back to the battle. 😞
  16. How good are Reapers? I'm an average player, my reaper is in exotic gear, and I can solo just about any open world mob short of champions - and I can get some of them. They're so strong that they may have ruined me for other classes. Like Dawdler said, raptor to shade + 4, aim at the 1 guy who's left, 5, 2, done. Don't worry if you aren't 100% comfortable with a build as presented. Tweak and test. I don't understand the love affair with greatswords. I use axe and horn. They have a little bit of range and fill up your lifeforce quickly. (Lifeforce powers shade abilities.)
  17. @kash.9213 DE listed: 122 I was thinking it should be 112. I think 112 and 111 are so close that I should have them hotkeyed. 111 for bosses and 112 for roaming. SA listed: 332 and I thought it should be 331. Thanks for mentioning that poison skill. I hadn't read it fully. It's on the new version. But I have to keep that initial 3 because that's what grants stealth when you steal. @Nezekan.2671 That's an interesting idea. Basically give up on crits except when "sniping" in exchange for 1000s of HP. Here's what that looks like (with the other changes too) : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PaxAQpjlFw0YXsMmJWUPbvSA-zRIUjCBqm7rQAjzsE6ND8bA-e Initial HP: 16088 W/ valk: 23788 And my power went up 53 And I'm keeping the vampiric runes. They're a big part of that health pool and they're surprisingly helpful for getting back on your feet. I got swarmed earlier and Downed Skill 5 took out a pile of bad guys. I was on my feet with almost full health. Thanks for the input.
  18. tl;dr Here's a draft deadeye build I'm working on. The goal is to simplify the skill loop and make it a little more flexible while keeping it strong enough for open world play. A discussion in a different thread got me thinking about thief builds - specifically deadeye builds. None of the popular deadeye builds have the simplicity of Reaper - which I've been playing. (It's made me lazy.) Reaper's mechanic makes it pretty simple to deal with groups of mobs or bosses. I'm wondering if there's a deadeye build that's both good enough to do both and simple to use (for general open world play). Here's the 1st draft of what I've come up with so far: The stealth signet deadeye: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PaxAQpjlFw0YXsMmJWUPvvUA-zRRUBKEoCKoPxQ+GEu0JYCLSB4fA-e This build leans into the core concepts of deadeye: marking, malice, and stealth. As soon as you mark your target, you gain 1 malice and are stealthed. You can go right into a stealth attack. Also, you stealth when you kill so you can theoretically chain easy kills. But you still have the ability to go thru a longer-though-less-powerful traditional power deadeye skill rotation for bosses. Known issues: The gear is wrong - at least the runes. The build has way too much healing on it. I should probably use Silent Scope over Payback I should probably use Cloaked in Shadows over Shadow's Rejuvenation I like the pistol and dagger combo, but can't decide which should be main hand. Questions for you What did I miss? What holes do you see? Are there easy ways to improve this? Do you know of similar builds? Am I reinventing the wheel?
  19. This ^^^. Even dropping minions, I - an inexperienced player - am only ever moments away from being ready for a big battle - just about any open world battle. When I play other classes/builds, I feel like I'm always running around trying to survive until some critical skill comes off cool down. And when I'm doing damage, reaper feels like the only 1 really built to take lots of smaller mobs and bosses. Are the other classes not as capable of doing that or am I not finding the right builds? If you look at the Deadeye builds on SnowCrows, the 2 builds are both admittedly focused on single target DPS. I could just be using 1-sided builds. Or this is all in my head.
  20. @ASP.8093 It's been awhile but I believe the answer is yes to all of your questions. Did multiple Deadeye builds. Did the Mal 7 loop. Marauder gear and Invigorating precision. I believe my issue was that I could build it to take out groups or I could build it to take out bosses. But I couldn't find a build that did both well. And then I found the Reaper and quit experimenting. Edit: I'd love to see any build recommendations you have. I still have the thief (and the ranger).
  21. Reaper is certainly simpler. Shroud > kill everything > Unshroud > refill lifeforce. I'm saying it's more powerful because shroud has a 9 second cooldown and you can mow mobs down. It might take another 10 seconds to refill your lifeforce. Compare that to the Elementalist. Glyph of storms (which strikes me as the quintessential elementalist skill) has a 60 second cooldown. I'm swapping attunements 4 or 5 times using 3 to 5 skills each time and wondering why stuff isn't dead yet. I'll look at scourge again. I tried it but didn't "get it". It doesn't help that I'm struggling with GW2's melee focus. Magic users are supposed to be standing in the back row throwing giant fireballs!!! Where are the giant fireballs!?!
  22. I've been playing for awhile. I have a soulbeast and a deadeye. They were lackluster. I made a reaper and it's crushing everything (open world). But I don't like the aesthetic. So I'm trying an elementalist. It's so weak (lvl 70). Is reaper that strong? Do I just need to give elementalist more time (and an elite spec)? Were the ranger and thief weak mainly due to my inexperience? Is there a different class/spec I should consider? (Ideally a class with a strong ranged build.)
  23. And in shroud, you don't have those other skills.
  24. Looking for a guild. I tend to play during the day. I do play at reset but that's usually just to knock out the daily. But all the fun stuff is done earlier in the day. Any recommendations?
