Literally nothing is paywalled. Living World episodes are unlocked with gems. You can trade for gems with in-game gold. Play the game. Stop expecting to get everything you want just because you own the game.

You have access to basic group functions, simply right click another player's icon/name and select "invite to party". You know what else? They can even invite you! Congratulations! You are now 1 step above everyone on the tutorial.

Sure the toxicity might be there, though it's always been there. You're probably experiencing more toxicity due to there being new content I.E more new/returning players. But you know what else is in the game? A Block/Report feature. Give those a try, it'll make your life a lot better I guarantee.
