Since I don't even see this posted as a known issue and tech support gave up, I'm going to request a refund.  I've spent too much time on workarounds already and don't want to be bothered anymore.  Does anyone know whether you can still play the game without the expansion once it's refunded, or is your whole account deleted?  I'd like to come back if they work this out, but I don't see the point in them keeping my payment when I can't and might never again be able to play.

Well, tech support let me down and passed the buck suggesting that my Windows user might be corrupt (that's not the problem).  The install works on my old laptop but I can't fully play the game on that.  Go figure.  I guess I 'm done with GW2 util a major update.  I've loved the game so far, but this is quite the let-down.  It's only been a few days, so here's hoping.  I'm not ready to request a refund.

    I got a ticket response and am going through steps with tech support.  So far, I'm having no luck.  I can't help thinking this was released too soon.  This is the worst game launch experience I've had since URU, but I'm sure it'll get worked out.  Healix: I've gone through those steps also and appreciate the assistance, but frankly no game should require so much noodling just to install it.

  4. Don't bother trying to reinstall.  Broken launcher is broken.  I went through what it sounds like you did, going so far as editing the hosts file to bypass the "Connection error."  The old solutions don't work and it's a problem that Anet so far seems to be ignoring.

  5. It's broken again.  I played last night just fine with no disconnects.  This morning, I repeatedly get "Connection error" and cannot play the game.

    This is very frustrating, and I don't see others having this particular problem.  I've followed the advice on older threads (flushing DNS, deleting roaming, etc.) and still can't even log into the game.  Buyers' remorse is looming.

I get a "Connection error" every time I try to launch the game.  Rebooting and disabling my firewall do not help.  I assume there are multiple problems with today's rush of players.  However, I don't see many complaints of lock-out while others are able to log in and play.  So, I thought it appropriate to post this for others who might be locked out as I am.  I purchased the new expansion yesterday and successfully added it to my account.
