  1. True, it's a luxury item, and we're all willing to pay extra for it. What we have an issue with is spinning the wheel for the bluetooth-upgrade when we don't have a phone that supports bluetooth (i.e. the griffon skins for the people who don't have or want a griffon. You'd have to pay double the 'upgrade' in order to make it worth it in the first place). It's spinning the wheel for a garish pink color we do not want to drive around in, and is therefore, again, wasted money. It's spinning the wheel again for leather seats that make us cringe when we sit on it and burns in the summer, and which again we never wanted. And all of that for the 1/30 chance of getting the performance tires we would've just liked to buy separately.
  2. I knew there was a reason I only buy socks I'm all going to use. (Sorry, yes, that was rather childish. True, though, I'll never get an assorted pack of socks that contains ones I know I won't use. I guess we're all different when it comes to these things.) It might be best to agree to disagree on the subject. Clearly, we think on it differently, and I'm not sure either of us is going to convince the other. Considering the risk of this devolving into a back-and-forth, this is my final reply. Thank you for the serious discussion, though, and have a nice evening.
  3. Nope, not very high odds indeed. Yes, I am. And I'm not the only one unable (or, in other cases, unwilling) to afford a way to eliminate the randomness from the equation. The option is there. If you don't like the randomness, then buy the bundle. If you can't afford the bundle then try your luck on singles. Or cut the odds to 1:3 by buying the 10 pack. That's not an option to buy the shirt separately. That's an option to buy all shirts and have 29 of them lying around in the closet, a wasted 116 bucks, and no option to even donate any of them to goodwill. That, or an option to buy a shirt and hope, pray, beg that it'll be the one I want, or keep on spending until I get it (with again, the ones I get before that one lying around in my closet, wasted money, etc.) You need to work on your analogy then because those were bad examples. Edit: let's just say the comparisons are personal preferences.
  4. 1) So does GW2. You have seen the new Jackal, right? Bright side? You know exactly what you're getting. You know exactly what you're getting. If you buy the bundle you get all 30 of them. For the bundle, yes. For anything less (like the 10-pack or the 1 contract), no. If you can't afford it, then that's your problem, isn't it? I can't afford a Ferrari, but why would I waste my time complaining about it? I'm not complaining about not being able to afford a Ferrari. A Ferrari is like the Jackal, which indeed I can also not afford. That's not my problem. My problem is not being able to afford a shirt I want because it's between a bunch of other shirts and I can only get a random one out of 30, instead of the one shirt I want. Yes, it's cosmetic. Yes, it's optional. I'm not saying they're obligated to offer it separately. I'm saying that I'd really like to be able to buy it separately, and they don't give me the option to. For people willing to buy the bundle with everything, it's not a problem. For me it is, which I complain about. That's your perception. Things in WoW isn't worst. And no, ArenaNet does not want your arm or your hand -- that's you underpricing your limbs. If I have to chop my finger, I better get $100 million for it, so if you want an arm, you better afford $250 Billion. These skins don't cost a hand or an arm, let alone a finger. Hence, me purposely using 'figuratively'. I'm not saying they cost me limbs. I'm saying the comparison is moot because it's still not a good thing. I can say it's like stealing 10 euros vs stealing 100 euros, which is both still not okay, if it makes you feel better about approaching a literal comparison. (Before you continue - yes, I am aware they're also not stealing any money, I'd be spending it voluntarily. That's why it's a comparison.)
  5. 1) So does GW2. You have seen the new Jackal, right? Bright side? You know exactly what you're getting. 2) Again, I cannot afford to buy all of them for the few skins I want. It's a bargain, if you get to choose. We don't get to choose, I don't care for most of them, and so I can't/won't get any of them. I complain because there is a few I do want, and there's no reasonable way for me to get them. 3) Comparisons to other games where 'things are worse' don't do much to me. Figuratively speaking, I'll still complain about someone chopping off my hand, rather than chopping off my arm. Thanks, but just because it could've been worse doesn't mean it's okay.
  6. I just realized that, while I have been spending time in this thread and commenting, I have yet to give an actual suggestion other than 'don't keep it randomized'. So here's my contribution: I get that the Trading Post would be an iffy thing when it comes to exploitation, especially if you keep the account-bound drop nature (imagine someone making sure they get everything except the expensive ones: the only drops they'd have left would be those most desired skins). The only way out of this would be to make them not account-bound, which so far has been a redeeming (if necessary, in its current form) part of the experience. That would also mean crafting drop tables, resulting in a lot more frustration over the rare skins, etc. This might not be the best way. Putting them all up separately in the Gem Store would be interesting, but I also get how that defeats some of the purpose. For some players, the random nature is not a turnoff at all, and they're having fun with this. Others just want them all (and some of them now have them all). The biggest 'problem' is the people (like me) who want a few skins, and who don't want them randomly dropped because it's frustrating and I, for one, can't afford it. That said, I seem to remember from my Halloween package that they were dropped into my inventory first, like minis. I then added them to my 'account wardrobe'. I'm not sure how much of what has already been bought can be turned back, but theoretically, you could put the bought skins back in the inventory so people could choose whether to add them again or:What I would like to suggest is the possibility of having someone at the stables who will exchange two unused skins for one chosen skin. It would make the 'price' of choosing a skin be 800 gems, and I can say I would be alright with this (not to mention, if you get really lucky (which I usually don't, but hey, you have people) you might get the skin you want from one of the actual contracts already).Theoretically, you could even make it so the 'price' for one of the fancier skins, like the Starbound Griffon or the fiery mounts, would be three unused skins (so 1200 gems). You might want an opinion on the fairness of this deal from someone else, though, considering those skins don't appeal to me much, so I'm not representative for what their value would be if they could be chosen. Good luck with the entire situation, and I hope it will get resolved.
  7. Not all of them, just usually the ones I like. In any MMO, Guild Wars 2 (also commonly referred to as 'Fashion Wars') not excluded, looks are a great part of the endgame content. So far, GW2 has performed very admirably. No, we don't have to buy them if we don't want them. Thing is, we do want (some of) them. I calculated the gold costs of it earlier in this thread - at an average of gathering about 90 gold a week, we spend 6 months farming for these skins. Skins that most of us don't all want. We want some of them, and we're willing to pay for those, but not (immediately) for the ones that would be off sitting in the bank, having been far better off not being adopted at all. We're making a big deal not about the cost, mostly not even about them being in the gem store, but about the randomness of it. I am not the only one who doesn't have the money or the luck to try for the few mounts that I do want. So I haven't tried at all. That's my choice, but the fact that I have to make it does make me sad, because there is a few skins I really would have liked. Edited for details.
  8. I have to disagree. Give me a table with 30 bags containing stickers, keychains or plushies, have me pay 4 coins to open one (or have me pay 34 coins to open 10, or 96 to open all), it's a classic gambling thing. The 'you always win something' stands in fairs are also gambling. Less so for the people that would be happy with anything, or that can/are willing to pay enough to collect all, but that doesn't make it less of a gamble. A lot of people do it for the plushies. I might like some, though I tend to favor keychains more overall. Hardly anyone wants to pay 34 coins just to get mostly stickers they didn't want.
  9. A lot of people aren't buying the lottery ticket: they're saying one or two of them look like a nice car, and they want to buy those cars upfront, and that option isn't being offered. Instead you get secondhand cars, basic cars and fancy cars offered for the price of the basic cars. Everyone has their own favorites, and they can't get those unless they (possibly) get all 30.
  10. Except no one is saying not to sell them. In fact, some are saying to feel free to sell them for more gems per piece, and we'll still buy them. We don't need them for free. People are saying that they would like to be able to pick what to spend their money on, not that they're not willing to spend money on cosmetics. For Anet, this is probably a viable way to make the most possible money out of it, and it's entirely likely they'll put out more skins later (whether individually or also via the stables). But for part of the playerbase, the randomized aspect is where they object, as I am. Yes, they're free to make money. They're even free to make this decision, as much as I may not like it. But it's not as if everyone is telling them not to sell them at all, or not to make money at all. The danger in the approach they've taken is that, while they may make more money instantly this way, it also makes for a lot of dissatisfied players. The same players they want encouraging others to play GW2.
  11. Currently, there are 30 mount skins available through the adoption chests. They might make more, they might not, but there is no guarantee there will never be more than 30 mounts available through these chests. With an average conversion rate of gold -> gems of 23g/100gems (not even taking into account the way the release of these mount skins has impacted the conversion graph, as seen at https://www.gw2spidy.com/gem. I am taking the very optimistic route of using the average conversion here, and a low version of it at that), one random chest per time costs 92 gold. (Should you wish to take the instant route of 9600 gems, that's 2208 gold. Most people do not have that lying around to spend within a week and will, at best, have to work with the 10-packs of 3400 gems, amounting up to 782 gold at a time and 10,200 gems, or 2346 gold, in total.) If you take the slow route, hoping they won't add more to the random chests so you can, eventually, catch them all, you total up to 12,000 gems or 2760 gold. This is all calculated with the rather optimistic rate of 23g/100gems, whereas the current exchange is about 30g/100gems (average. The numbers themselves are even higher at about 32g as I write this). Yes, it is doable in the long run. Yes, good legendaries are about as much (not taking into account the current spike in conversion rates). But for someone who wants about 2 or 3 of the skins, in my case, and not a whole lot of luck on RNG ever, it is a LOT to be counting on being lucky. Had I been able to pick the order of it, I wouldn't have nearly as much trouble just taking it slow and collecting the gold for it, buying them one or two at a time. But as it is, I won't risk spending let's say, 1380g just to get those few skins I would actually end up using. Not to mention I just don't have the real life money to do something like this.
  12. Dulfy completed the previews (including dye differences, so it's clear where the actual differences are): http://dulfy.net/2017/11/07/gw2-black-lion-mount-adoption-license-mount-skins/ Edit: As for my opinion: I'm sad. There's a few that I would like, but I'm nowhere near lucky enough that I imagine I'd be able to get them by gamble, and I can't afford to keep going until I do get them. It's saddening to see they decided to go the completely random way, instead of the way at least for example the dyes you could buy off TP if you really wanted them. I'm now even gladder to have bought the H'ween skins, because I can dye my mounts and I knew exactly what I was getting.
