I'd bet that new races wouldn't sell many more expansions, because most people who wanted to try the game would have tried it already. A new race won't get them in. At most it'll get some people to come back, but I don't think most people leave because they're run out of races. They  leave for other reasons a new race wouldn't solve. So yeah, I don't think it's the solution or even a solution to selling more expacs.

Depends on how you look at it. If Tengu were just reskinned Charr or Dwarves were mini Norn, I think the whole idea is doomed to failure. But, people said the same about Mounts pre-PoF, and they turned out to be my favorite implementation of mounts in a MMO (barring the griffin in WoW, I love being able to just point in a direction and fly across the different biomes on the map, but that's a bit off topic). I'm open to the idea that Tengu could bring something new to this game, even if I'm not entirely convinced that people who advocate for new races know what they want.

I'd like to see if they get that reaction when they're 11 years old.

If Todd Howard has taught me anything, you can generate hype over a 12 year old game. Hell, you can even turn a 7 year old game into one of the top 10 selling games of 2024 (in a number of countries) with a prime tv show.

In grounded reality, even GW2 will receive player spikes when expansions are released (when we expect new classes/especs/weapons to fulfil new class fantasies).

  3. I'm more interested in how we have a secret illuminati faction dedicated to barring out outside forces from the mists, yet they seem to do nothing to stop Asura from poking holes into it. Why is research into this topic by unlearned individuals even allowed at all?

  4. Discourse aside, I do genuinely miss the "Charming/Dignity/Intimidating/Neutral" options. They don't even need to be game changing either - the illusion of choice, and the ability to recall what was chosen makes for a great experience.

I think well written text trees could far outstrip the current in-game styles of "stand around in this restricted area while NPC's talk your ear off".

  5. If I had a neigh immortal body and perfect metabolism, I'd probably be calling out for something naughtier, like energy drinks. Heck, I even do it with my mortal one.

But, yeah. Keeping a bottle of water on hand is always a good idea.

As the Charr Pact Commander i consider myself the Father (metaphorically speaking). I was there when that egg hatched!  And her 1st words was "Dada!"  in dragon lingo o7

A true Charr father would have placed Aurine in the care of a fahrar. Just imagine how far that smart little cub could have made it in the legions.

    1) Expansions bring revenue. No revenue, no game. You cant sell an expansion since it’s in your account and can never be untied from it and there’s no way any company will allow the resale of a coded product for so many other reasons

I think they intend to buy and "gift" expansions, not remove them from their account and resell them. I have had a few friends over the years who purchase expansions in cheaper countries (like Brazil) or richer countries (like Sweeden) and gift codes to guildmates who live in Africa, where the price of an expansion is outrageous in local currency conversion, and they in return get X amount of gold (RMT?). I think the OP simply wants a "legal" way to conduct this transaction that doesn't break the ToS.

  8. I'm confused. A "Is it worth getting a legendary amulet if gw3 is coming out?" thread has been merged with a doomer thread about how the OP doesn't like the games current direction and isn't sure if they should stay because GW3 isn't in the cards..

Are the mods AI looking for keywords to merge, or is there some relation I'm missing?

  9. I didn't change wvw worlds years ago because we were getting this nifty update called "alliances" that would allow me to play with my friends. It was a miserable decision and I shouldn't have held out hope that Anet would do anything about it based on rumors and sporadic progress updates.

There's no point planning your future around "maybes" and "rumor", especially if it stops you from having fun now. If you want that legendary amulet, go for it.

Could you please define what a mage is if not a user of a variety of magic types? Elementalists use elemental magic. Mesmers use chaos and illusion magic. Necros use blood and death magic. Guardians technically use 'holy' magic, or even just plain defensive magic. Rangers use nature magic. Thieves use shadow magic. Revenants use demensional magic. The only actual non-magic users are warriors and engineers.

Incorrect. Warriors could use self buffing spells and magic sigils in their weaponry (hence why weapons are comically huge), and Engineers can be presumed to use some degree of Magitek in their devices.

Remember that in Guild Wars, magic emanates from everything that lives and exists, hence why rogue magic-eating elder dragons were a huge problem.

  11. Even if you don't want Gw3 now, I think it'll be welcome in 2030. These games take 5-6 years to produce after all, 1 year if you're making a gorgeous unreal engine cutscene gameplay that glorifies disappointment (a popular sales strategy for new MMO's).

  12. My guildmates don't play anymore. One of my old guilds got passed into the hands of someone who sold the guild, so I got kicked. As the guild scribe and one of the main contributors back in the day, that sucked.

Plus, idk, I just hate Soto. Feels like a huge step down from living world, both in terms of writing and activities. I guess Living World Episode 5 prologue spoiled me, but I haven't really had fun with new content since End of Dragon's Elite Specs and Strike missions (story wasn't terrible either).

Feels like when I log in, it's more productive to focus on Dungeons, Strikes, Fractals, WvW, PvP. Anything Soto related tends to get me to log off within 15 minutes.

Nah Guild Wars 3 could work as a Dragon Dogma like RPG game

Not sure if this is a joke, but you see a lot of trend-making studios now following trends to varying degrees of success. Gw3 being a Dragon's Dogma knockoff would be a nightmare lmao.

  14. I don't think Gw3 would work as anything other than an MMO. Problem with MMO's is that nobody knows the secret sauce to the next big one - even Riot Games recently scrapped their MMO plans because they didn't have a marketable plan to compete with the current market.

That being said, I think it'd be neat if this game was like "runescape", which uses "classic, 2, 3" to denote massive overhauls to the game. Game Changing things like overhauling the level 1-15 areas and maybe adding a variation of the EoD training field for actual newbies.

Except current (since eod) strike release follows the [story -> normal -> cm] encounter progression , so if someone "wants to get into strikes", it would probably be in their best interest to play through the story encounters first? Other than that, they can do what I initially did -join strike lfg, tp to a friend to wizard tower and clear the strike. Then proceed with the story whenever they feel like. I don't think players have trouble "getting into strikes and raids" because of the story.

And people not understanding how the game progression/map unlocks work or even how content is bound to its respective expansion is a completely different issue btw (if it actually is an issue to solve?). In that case, even if nothing here was related to the story, they'd still be as lost as they are now.

I'm not here to discuss how people SHOULD play the game. I'm here to discuss how people ARE playing the game, and how that influences my experiences as a PuG commander. The main problem, as I've already discussed, is that people have trouble reaching the Wizards Tower or (formerly) Arborstone. The two main causes are 1) lack of story progression/lack of wizards tower scroll and 2) Doesn't understand that you need certain expansions to do certain strike missions. The fact that I can sometimes get 1-3 of these players per "beginner/training group" makes me suspect that some players are struggling to understand when they should attempt strike missions.

  16. This thread is funny. Lots of people deflecting, like "if you hate story, you hate the game! Just don't play!". Well, no, you can enjoy gw2's combat and hate the story.

I personally think expansions would be better if we visited the mission Hub (wizard tower) first with no story progression. It'd help get players into strikes and raids. As a PuG commander, I see A LOT of people struggle to either reach the hub (story progression locked without teleport to friend) or don't own the expansion (thinking they can enter the strike from EotN like a fractal).

  17. I kinda wish gw2 would take itself less seriously. Less "save the world", more "omg I have a hangover. Wait, where did I park my tank?". You see aspecs of this in the base game, in lws2, and in the lws5 prologue.

Palworld is fun because it is chaotic and allows for some horrible player cruelty potential, either for laughs or just to see if you can. Like catching Humans in palspheres, which, while possible, the game outright tells you that's not okay.

  18. TL;DR
    1) Add more fun pvp maps.
    2) 20v20 "enter the castle" pvp to avoid interacting with Inactives/Nubs. Basically describing WvW with meaningful objectives, or castle wars from Runescape?
    3) Clan based open world PvP.

    4) Add customisable housing.
    5) Horses and stables.

    6) 2 new mounts.
    7) Spider that can shoot webs and climb walls. Players can climb said web.
😎 Spider mount can catch (kidnap) players in its web and transport 1 player to safety (certain death?)
    9) Monkey mount that stays in combat when you dismount.
    10) Will consist of 5 seperate minions, each with different skills to aid in keeping us safe while we AFK.

I will admit, at the very least, the mounts do sound kinda cool.
