  1. FYI, NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW, cloud-based game streaming service, is out of Mac beta, and is now officially released.Works nicely with my old MBP13 (2011), and have been beta-testing and playing since the start of the beta project. Two tier membership, one play for free up to a hour at a time, unlimited re-logins, and paid 6 hour limited play time plus better ray-tracing graphics.Much better to have Mac options to play GW2, rather than less for sure.

  5. Finally!!!An update, from ANet, about the Mac client, at last! And this IS great news. Praise Stéphane Lo Presti!
  6. Ok, maybe a bit more time for ANet to actually do something about our beloved/dreaded(/doomed?) Mac 64-bit GW2 client?https://www.apple.com/macos/catalina/"Available in October" OR. is this the true DEADLINE...
  7. I may log in to my ancient EVE account someday soon... Oh dear... Even more chaos...I wish No Man's Sky was on Mac...
  8. ULTRA disappointed that there was NO mentioning about the Mac 64-bit(-ish) client to be working on the coming new full and exclusively 64-bit Mac OS Catalina. So far, on OS beta-testing mode, the supposedly 64-bit Mac client crashes 100% due to possibly still having some 32-bit code within, BUT, no one at Anet has responded to the Mac players' repeated request on at least giving an update or a roadmap about anything Mac-related. This 'No-reponce' has generally started right after the HUGE Anet shakeup earlier this year, and has been very much NO WORD silent ever since. Sad to become left out, and it's going to happen very soon...HELP!!!
  9. Hi all,I unfortunately have missed whatever ANet announcement made about Mac client (IF any) recently. Can anyone report here? Thanks!
  10. Yes, I use a window all the time. Me, too.(Ironically, GW2 in 'window' mode, on a Mac :P)
  11. BTW, I know this is somewhat off-topic, but has anyone tried playing GW2 on virtual machines like Parallels?I just read somewhere that the latest Parallels is moving to Metal, and was a bit curious.
  12. I did not see the August 30 announcement information nor related forum tread, unfortunately. What was it all about? On the main forum they opened a thread for some event they will hold on the 30th. Of course it was so vague nobody knew what it was about, just that they were collecting questions and talking about the event. edit: Here is my post, just go to the start of page 1 to see what they asked. https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/83087/join-us-for-a-special-live-event-on-august-30#latestThanks Menadena! I REALLY hope Anet is listening, and ready to deliver some forward-looking information about the Mac client during this 8/30 announcement event.I will be checking it out.

  14. Hi and thank you very much for your posting and information.Quick question: Does your MBP15 Mid 2014 have a dedicated/discrete GPU or not, other than the Intel Iris Pro Graphics?FYI, Apple "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) - Technical Specifications"https://support.apple.com/kb/SP704Here, it says it has a "NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching".I always thought that all 15 inch MacBook Pro have a discrete/dedicated GPU, as well as an integrated GPU, and able to switch between each other, while 13 inch MBP are always only integrated GPU and never had a dedicated/discrete GPU.I am wondering, if you disable the "Automatic graphics switching", by "System Preferences" and then go to "Energy" control panel & uncheck the box next to "Automatic graphics switching", will it change your GW2 graphics and/or playability at all?Should be all better, you think.I am just VERY curious. I also have this same issue several times during playing, on my Mac mini 2011 with dedicated/discrete GPU and i7 CPU running El Capitan. Although stuck ing the ground, looking at the mini map, my character is actually moving in the correct direction and traveling a distance, until suddenly my character warps to the correct location on the mount on screen. Weird bug for sure. I just wait for a bit, mount and unmount and mount again until all good. ArenaNet, what's up, up there?
  15. Intel graphics? That means integrated graphics, which most games, including GW2, do not play nice with. Can you add an external GPU to your system? BTW, is this an imac or a mini or what (I assume a mini as an imac would have a gpu). If thinking of an external gpu shop around, there are MUCH better deals out there than the one apple sells. Quieter and upgradeable too. FYI, Intel HD Graphics 3000 in Mac models are listed here. Possibly a 2011 MBP or Mac mini.Apple Support "About integrated video on Intel-based Mac computers"https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204349#intelhd I have a 2011 MBP13 with Intel HD Graphics 3000, but recently have only run GW2 via NVIDIA GeForce NOW. I can test if actually Intel HD Graphics 3000 is the cause or not. I will update later on this.I also play GW2 64-bit on a 2011 Mac min, but mine is a CTO with dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB GPU and i7 CPU, so cannot say about all other 2011 Mac mini, except I CAN play GW2 on my Mac mini at low settings without much crashing or freezing. Only once in a while when switching apps too many times by Commend+Tab. Ah, thanks, I had always heard integrated graphics were a no-go.Question to all: How many reading here are actually playing GW2 64-bit on a Mac with only integrated graphics like Mac mini or MBP 13 inch, not with a dedicated GPU? Question to all: Players with Macs that have dedicated GPU, such as iMac, MBP 15 inch, Mac Pro, and some Mac mini, are you able to play GW2 64-bit ok? eGPU would be nice, and I would like get one for my next Mac, IF my pocket is deep enough. My only thought is, GW2 seems to be CPU heavy, CPU power hungry. So, I am not sure if the 64-bit app will ever be optimized to become reliant to GPU power over CPU speed.eGPU might not 'pay' for playing GW2 at better graphics settings. Question to all: Is anyone playing GW2 using eGPU? And if so, is it actually much better than no eGPU?

  17. I do have similar crashes and hangs, freezes from time to time, with the 64-bit app. Not always, not often, but does happen sometimes for sure.My thought of this is, I think this could be with the GW2 app not being 'friendly' enough with Mac OS, and its heavy CPU usage. I often switch apps with Command+Tab key combo, and doing this too frequently does seem to trigger 'instability' in running GW2 app on Mac OS and the entire Mac itself, me think. When running GW2 64-bit app, I see more than 150%+ CPU usage in Activity Monitor app, which means most all the CPU power is hogged up by GW2 app and not much wiggle room left for all other apps running in parallel to run stably. Interestingly while understandably, when running GW2 via NVIDIA GeForce NOW (beta) app on Mac, I have never experienced a crash, not even once, as this system is basically running GW2 on a Window$ background, and streaming the gameplay to my Mac. I really REALLY wish ANet modernizes the GW2 Mac app for the much better, utilizing more GPU power over CPU, full 64-bit, and overall stability. The latest 64-bit-only Mac OS Catalina just around the corner, and already early beta-testers here are saying they cannot run nor play GW2 64-bit app AT ALL, very unfortunately. No sight of any good and promising future for GW2 on Mac, at the moment, really sadly.(And I definitely don't want to be hindered of crafting Exordium, which I am at the last stage of it..) Hey! What's going on, ANet?
  18. Thanks, glad to hear. On the subject of external SSD, I’m considering doing that. In your experience:does Guild Wars 2 64-bit.app on the external SSD interact correctly with all the ancillary data files (Application Support and preference file located in ~/Library) on the primary drive?is a USB 3.0 connection as good as Thunderbolt 1.0 (my current connection options)?should the connection on the SSD match that on the computer (USB <-> USB, Thunderbolt <-> Thunderbolt)?given Guild Wars 2 64-bit.app is currently 46gb, is there a recommended gb overhead minimum to handle I/O and any temp files? Just thought I’d ask while you’re current on the thread and have done this. At some point I might make a separate thread asking about external SSD’s on Mac. Not to me but since I looked into a couple of those questions .... The 64 bit GW2 applications looks for the data file under either itself or the name of the 32 bit application under /Applications. If you move it to another drive it would not find it but it should work if you create a link (not an alias) to the 32 bit file. Google how to use ln to move your documents folder somewhere else and just change the paths. USB 3.0 is better than TB 1.0. Depending on the measure it is on par with thunderbolt 2.0. My boot SSD is an external drive on a USB 3 connection and works fine. For the third question it depends on what connectors you are trying to match. If a dongle exists you should be okay. Well, unless you are talking about thunderbolt 3 and USB-C. Look on the gw2 site for recommended specs. A few years ago that file was in the 30s .... it grows all the time.Well, talking about my own setup and of my own experience here, after 'transferring' the 32-bit .dat file 'into' the 64-bit app package, I just copied the 64-bit app onto an external SSD with direct connection through OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock which connects to my i7 Mac mini via Thunderbolt 2 as well. BTW, my external drive is Monster Digital Overdrive Thunderbolt (SSDOT-0240-A). For Thunderbolt 3 external SSD options, more are becoming available, and I probably will move to these enclosures later in my Mac life. I then just double-clicked the copied 64-bit app on the external SSD drive, it just worked. Of course, I did delete the GW2 apps on my internal drives, which are now 'both' SSD as well, but NOT delete nor move anything else such as any of the files in the ~/Library folder. When GW2 in running, I do see the LEB on the external SSD drive frequently flashing. Load speed is not instant, yet very much acceptably playable. For disk transfer speed and I/O interfaces, Googling USB vs Thunderbolt gives you plenty of info.Yet, here are some links to some charts I liked. 19. I recently posted my how-to process on the forums for doing exactly this "transplant" of the .dat files to avoid a time-consuming bandwidth-hogging full download: Removing multiple clients (32- and 64-bit) on Mac might solve some issues While I deleted my 32-bit version (I really think it's way beyond support at this point, and could actually be part of the problem), I suppose you could save a 32-bit "archive" of the app, Application Support folder, prefs & cache files -- just put them all somewhere together safely outside the Application folder. Or better yet on an external HD so the 64-bit doesn't try to utilize those files in some way. I only recommend this for at least intermediate techhies that know enough to confidently poke around their computers. Hope this is some help. Thanks for the re-post here as well!Well written! I forgot how I did my 'transplant' a while ago, but something like this.Yet, now I have most everything GW2 on an external Thunderbolt 2 SSD drive, including both the 32-bit app and working 64-bit app.For me, all is working OK (note: NOT great), and is playable at least with everything set to low.So, not much to worry about, but I may think of ZIP-ing the 32-bit app for backup, and deleting it.Yes, 32-bit app is DEAD for sure.
  20. MacOS has enough tools to check for 64 bit compatibility. 1)If you are running GW2, open Activity Monitor. On the CPU tab click on "type" column (you may need to add this column). This will order apps in 32 and 64 bit. Coherent Host UI is 32 bit and it opens only when GW2 is open. 2)menubar > apple logo > about this Mac > System ReportIn Software > Applications, order apps in the "64 bit" column. "Yes" means that they are 64 bit....Software > Classic Software also shows 32 bit apps. @GalaxySpot.6524 said: Hi there!Unfortunately, the 32-bit GW2 app does NOT run anymore. My better suggestion: Use NVIDIA GeForce NOW, which is sort of virtual streaming gaming machine, and it is FREE to play, at least for now as this is still in beta. I play at home using this on a 2011 MBP13 with 10.11 El Capitan, and if you have a fast enough network, definitely playable. Otherwise, it is barely playable on my MBP13 at home, even if I use my external SSD GW2 disk setup.NVIDIA GeForce NOW Hope this helps!Good Luck! HELLO? ANYONE UP THERE LISTENING?Mac GW2-ers desperately need your voice and directions, and NOW... Thank you for your detailed answer, it's very kind of you! I will admit it sucks to hear that it requires such an effort, and is maybe even close to impossible, to play a game you have loved for so many years. Quite disheartening, but I'll definitely try your tips and read through the forums! It's so weird though, I was able to play on the 32-bit client just maybe 8 days ago. I am hesitant to delete the 32-bit client, on the off chance it might work again with the next patch because of some unseeable variant, haha. WAIT!Do NOT delete your 32-bit GW2 app, just yet!Although your actual game stats and everything is saved online, to play on a Mac (or PC), you still need ALL the essential graphics and other basic game data that is saved locally on your Mac somewhere, which is usually within your App package. I do not remember the details, but to run the 64-bit GW2 app, it will automatically access your 32-bit data. You can also 'transplant' this data file into your 64-bit GW2 app package, but how-to details should be somewhere within this tread. Hopefully, someone here can post a refresher link about what to do with the GW2 data files on a Mac. You can re-download all your game data, but this is very time-consuming. On the other hand, if you play GW2 via NVIDIA GeForce NOW on Mac, everything you need is saved over the net, and nothing is saved on your side except within your NVIDIA GeForce NOW app settings. Hope this helps.

  22. FYI, just read this article about an Mac app that checks 64-bit compatibility of all Mac apps. "Prepare for 64-Bit Mac Apps With Go64" Obviously while also interestingly, Mac GW2 64-bit app is scanned as 'Yes' to 64-bit compatibility. However, we all here suspect the internals (Coherent UI) are partially still 32-bit, and definitely does NOT run on 64-but-only Mac OS Catalina beta which is expected to officially arrive this Fall 2019.
  23. & So, just to be clear: GW2 is playable on current Mac OS 10.14 Mojave, but NOT on beta pre-release Mac OS 10.15 Calalina? And is this because of the 32-bit Coherent UI compatibility with 64-bit only Catalina? Or, could there be something else with changes in still beta Catalina?I am just wondering that if it's the latter, then when official release of Catalina this fall, GW2 would eventually run properly again, or not at all. Deeper question is, should I get a new Mac now with Mojave, or later after Catalina is released and being pre-installed, in order to play GW2 on Mac?(Probably buy now than later, but just asking...) HELLO UP THERE!!!
