Like we said in this morning's news post, we're going to have much more info coming about Janthir Wilds. I don't want to spoil all of that but I can give you a few quick answers to questions I've seen here and there:

    • Your current home instances are not going away when Homesteads arrive on August 20.
    • Homesteads will have a separate crafting profession from Guild Scribing.
    • We are not planning to add new strike missions in addition to the raid with Janthir Wilds.

We have a lot more to share with you between now and Janthir Wilds launch. Stay tuned!

Please increase the number of additional crafting licenses so characters can have all crafting disciplines active on one character!

Each one is 800 gems, so I'd love to spend more money!

I am happy to report that you can get a weapon select chest as a drop in the convergences.  I got one on my 76th convergence.  I have also gotten 2 weapons dropped from rifts but still with the low drop rate it still seems like a collection that will take over a year to complete.  I have almost gotten my chest for doing 100 convergences so that will put me at 4/16.  I still hope they add these to the vendor to buy with shards

Yeah, that means you'd have to do 1,800 more Convergences (one per day for five years) unless you get incredibly lucky. They should add more sources for them.

Cronos has the way of it. If you download Steamedit and delete the flag -providerissteam from the launch argument line it will launch from Steam with your old account. Its the same thing folks that bought FFXIV retail accounts have to do to get it to run on Steam. They aren't enabling all old accounts on Steam and having their whole player base have 30% revenue skimmed off every gem purchase. Its convenient for us but thats alot of revenue to give up for them lol. This fix does the same thing anyway. Very easy to do with Steam edit just delete the line and hit save.

No need for external software at all 😛

Why is this character-bound in any event? Surely every other achievement is accountbound?

Correct. It is intended that it's character-bound because completing it provides significant experience bonuses in the form of consumables. The idea is that every character can be levelled at the same speed by completing these achievements, rather than just your first character.

Agreed that it's super annoying if you're already an existing player though

Oh yes, having to open another program to launch the game is so much more cumbersome than just... clicking on a launcher? What? It even has autoplay.

    This.

OP, in what way is it more cumbersome to click on the gw2 icon on your desktop with it then set to autoplay than to click on steam, then click on gw2?

    • Need to enter Gw2 login details or 2FA from time to time (less of a big deal if it's remembered and only one account is used on your computer)
    • Can't use Steam to buy expansions and gems
      • More payment types, faster purchases, can effectively buy things for free
    • Don't get Steam Points for purchases
    • Harder to install / set up Guild Wars 2 on Steam Deck
    • Can't do Steam Remote Play as easily
    • Can't share screenshots with friends as easily
    • Can't get community controller configs for the game
    • Fewer settings are synced (in theory)
    • No Steam Trading Cards as a rebate on purchases (not something ANet as set up)

The list goes on. On the bright side, you can buy Gw2 on a Steam account and gift your main account someGem Store purchases.

Then buy path of fire and gift stuff to your main, the gold from login rewards will easily pay for none giftable stuff over time.

That's... actually a pretty great idea. Certainly less than ideal, and it's not my only reason for wanting to play with my main on Steam, but it'll help ease the pain a bit like pointing the Steam launcher at the non-Steam one. Thanks!

Or you know, you could play the game on the normal launcher, same as it is now in order to have everything, instead of posting 100 threads on the forum about this.

How will new players know this before they log 1,000 hours into the Steam version? Steam is gonna be the default for a lot of new players since that's what people tend to check for first.

And of course, the best of both worlds is to have it work on the Steam version so that you can benefit from Steam's features as well. Strangely, there are both pros to being a Steam user and pros to being a non-Steam user.

I'm thinking that if it took you 10 years since GW1 to get GW2 on Steam, maybe, just maybe, it wasn't so important to you to bring your Hall of Monuments with you...

edit: of course if it was possible, that'd be good, but I'm not thinking this will be a big issue.

The more typical scenario is that a player starts with GW2 and likes it, so they want to check out GW1 for the first time.

Guys im pretty sure that in the near future they can work something out to link your gw1 acc to ur gw2 steam acc.

That said, do you think a new player is gonna care about 550 achivement points really? when they are missing 2,5k of monthly, 10 years of events or unique ones (for not talking about the dailys), its imposible to compete already.

Same goes for the title of God Walking... you think they gonna buy Gw1 complete collection and waste idk 1-2k hours in making that title, cos it is time consuming specially if you start from scratch and dont have knowledge.

Yes. Even if you're missing most of the LWS1 ones, you can still make it close to the top of the leaderboards no problem. Many of us that started with Guild Wars 2 did exactly that with Gw1.

Honest question, if the information is not available...how do we know?

That's exactly the problem. We know this is a restriction of Steam accounts, but the restriction—a somewhat critical one for some players—is hidden away in FAQ so as to not turn away prospective players. Either way, increased communication would still leave players upset. Easier to fix the root of the problem.

You know what companies like more than losing 20-25% to another company? Losing 0%. Steam release is aimed at new players, they don't need to entice you into playing the game through another platform because you're already playing it.

    They'll still miss out on:

    • many sales from existing and returning players, believe it or not
    • a smaller transaction fee from Digital River / PayPal / credit card companies when purchases are made in the non-Steam version

ArenaNet, while still a business, isn't as bloodthirstily profit-driven as other MMO companies, so it's weird that they're doing something so anti-player this time around.
