  1. I gave this spec a month, but I'm going back to Renegade. Vindicator is slow and boring. I spend most of my time in Dwarf stance with S/S, so I might as well get the benefits of Renegade with it, and add Demon back in.

  2. One of the tactics that is stressed in the beginning of the EoD storyline is using first a combo field and then a combo finisher. It's implied (or stated, don't remember) that this will be a necessary tactic for some EoD mobs. However, if you run the new Alliance stance with GS, you get 3 combo finishers (#5 on GS, Nomad's Advance on both blue and red) but no combo fields. None. Zero.
You get a field with Dwarf's Stone Road, Demon's Embrace the Dark and Centaur's Protective Solace. I'm ignoring Glint and Kalla, because, yeah.  This seems like a real fail on the part of the devs.

I'm also going to throw my 2 cents in about the alliance stance here, because 1k replies is a lot.
I loved the original Vindicator beta. it was fun, and challenging. I went and did hero points so I could play it immediately. But the way the Alliance stance is now is flat and boring. More of the same. Either I'm DPSing, or I'm healing/buffing.  I guess I could equip a staff as a secondary and switch if the fight goes south, or vice versa if no one is dying. But that still leaves me with one weapon set and one stance, and I could do the same thing with the Centaur stance. One of the things I felt was special and exciting about the Vindicator was the flexibility. The changes have taken that fun out of it.

Why bother creating a new spec and stance if the gameplay is just going to be the same?

OK, I think we have a culprit here.  I disabled TrendMicro antivirus, but that didn't work.  I then added an exception for my GuildWars2 folder and continued to have antivirus turned off and then it worked.  I then tried and enabled antivirus on trend Micro again, and it seems to be working correctly now.  So, it does appear Trend Micro is causing the issue.  Hopefully my exception for the folder will work, and Arena net can find a cause/fix for it.

Update: Added the entire folder to the exceptions, and now the launcher runs!  Thanks to all.

  4. I posted this on a different thread. Maybe this will help you as well:

I have 10 characters and was playing in full screen mode, as far as I know.  Game wouldn't load so, not knowing about this bug and assuming it was a corrupted file, I uninstalled the game and downloaded the installer. The installer downloaded fine, but will not run. I ran DXdiag, and it says I'm running DX12 with no issues.  I tried adding the command line arguments with no luck. The only overlay I had was through Discord, which wasn't even running at the time. I turned that off. The installer still will not run.

Update: I turned my Microsoft Trend off and the installer ran. I didn't have to do that when I installed the game previously. The launcher is running the download. When it's done, I'll turn the antivirus back on and see if it runs then.

So, I downloaded the game again, and ran it without an issue. Logged out, turned on my Trend Micro security, and the game would not start. I couldn't bring up Trend's main console, and Trend was acting bugged, so I restarted. Got the console up, added GW2 to Trend's exceptions list, and it would not start. Added the -perf and -windowed, not starting. Turned off Trend Micro, and the game works perfectly.  There's some kind of conflict between the anti-virus software and the launcher which was not a problem before. I didn't have GW2 in my exceptions list before.

Why did this post get moved to "DX11 Crash issue"??  This is not a DX11 issue.  The launcher does not even get to the log in stage.  I can't image this has anything to do with DX11.  In fact, now the installer doesn't even get to the install stage.

Try turning off your anti virus. That worked for me. I posted about it earlier in this thread.

What i just thought to myself. The first crashes started for me after the Beta launched and people started popping into our squads and maps with the new specs.

Might some of the particle effects on the new abilities be a culprit for this, as the crashes do have the typical signature of a memory leak induced crash.

Unitl the new specs showed up i had zero crashes, especially as all the mentioned conditions in the original post do not apply to my case (and many others as reddit and this post do show).

This is interesting. I have a new, top of the line gaming computer that runs everything else like a dream, including my graphics rendering programs that I use for graphic design. It used to run GW2 like a dream, never crashing. However, lately I noticed game freezes and crashes, which have been increasing in frequency. It's one of the reasons that I assumed that my game files were corrupted when my game wouldn't launch earlier.

Thanks to @Mirus.8059, added the entire GW2 folder to Trend's exception list, and now it seems to be working perfectly.

I understand being unable to change it as it causes bugs, despite being a weird coding decision, but like Cynical said the system would use an invisible tag which, in gw2 case, is visible, so why not add a mask to it making our current display name as it is but invisible behind a new, easy-to-alter name whose only purpose is to be visible to players? It wouldn't be much different from a character name.

editI didn't know for example that the account name was the handle used for forum interactions. this would be useful info at time of account creation.

@"grouchybhaal.4275" said:Wish that ingame you had the option to show character name or account name.

For the record, I'm fine with my name. I've been burned before so I try to pick something blah. I came to this thread because my son wants to change his name, but he'll be fine. Saying that, I have to agree that it's kind of ridiculous that your account is keyed into your "display name" since to me "display" means something you show, as opposed to "account" which means your account.

Also, if our accounts are truly keyed to our display names, then why do I have to log in with my email address? This implies that it's our email - which is a unique identifier - is what is really important. So which is the key? Your email, or your "display" name?

Edit: Even Minecraft now lets you change your user name. Your "display name" shouldn't feel as regrettable as a drunken tattoo, especially when we put real life money into this game, some of us a significant amount of money.
