I wasn't really a hater, but I remember being disappointed that all of the PoF masteries were taken up by mounts. They could have been combined into one single mount mastery, and the other masteries could give us something "as good as gliding". The mounts looked cool, but ultimately seemed sort of useless since there were waypoints everywhere in core Tyria. The only maps that would benefit would be PoF maps that were designed to require mounts to get around. Didn't think they would be nearly as useful as gliding was. (But at least the mounts were immediately usable on any map, unlike gliding which was HoT maps only for awhile after launch.)
As disappointed as I was in the "wasted masteries", I didn't really complain. I wasn't buying HoT or PoF for the masteries, anyway. I wanted new maps to explore, new story and gear, and new ways to play my class, and I got that. Same with EoD. Gimme some new Cantha and new specs. Everything else is extra sauce and the cherry on top.
And I was ultimately wrong about mounts. I will ride or fly instead of wp more often than not because it's more fun taking the scenic route. Fact is, we really won't know how good these masteries are until we actually see them in game.
...I am kinda excited for fishing, though.
