How does renewing oasis work?

does it permanently knock out 20% of current condi durations when you get regen boon? or is it only for the duration of the regen and then they go back to normal durations?

if the later why would you take this trait over self-deception? has anyone measured how much damage mitigation this provides in practice?

It works on conditions you receive while you have regeneration.  Those have their total duration reduced by 20%.  All conditions on you before getting regeneration are unaffected.

I do not take that over i have in the past tho, with chaos and that traitline you should have regen up about 50% of the time by your self if with a some one that can apply regen higher depending on if your in a pve group setting (which would be 100% uptime) or pvp (which would depend if your near the the boon supplier or not but given that mesmers are very bad team fighters better sidenoders you will likely not be getting those boons as for wvw it doesn't matter in a blob nothing really does if roaming same applies 50% uptime)

Issue is no mesmer is tanky enough to make this trait really work it would be much better to avoid the damage altogether or to kill the enemy or outright cleanse the damage as condition damage can get negated entirely with condition cleanse which really makes condition damage reduction trash.

You also can trait distortion to condition cleanse mirage really doesn't have an issue with condition cleansing unless your taking alot of condition pressure from multiple players.
