Returning after very long time, wanting to solo-roam in WvW again (eventually)

Hello everyone,

I had quit the game around when HoT came out but want to now return.

Back in the I loved to solo roam and have 1vX fights which, of course, I lost most of the times but could land a kill or two. After trying a few times to run in WvW with my old shatter/survivability build I feel completely unprepared and overwhelmed.

Is core mesmer still viable?

Is my gear/build completely out of touch? Link below has my full build/gear which has not changed since last time I logged in HoT for the last time.

Any suggestions/YouTube mesmers with advice on how to approach power mesmer for the above scenario?

I guess that your build and equipment is not ready for SOLO roam these days.... (...Chrono is still good for group roaming)

First of all I would says that if you want to roam solo with core or chrono you will have a hard time....you dont have enough movility / defenses to compete with other roamers. It is posible but you need to outplay your oponent a lot.

To have an "easy" roam with mesmer you woul need a Mirage or Virtuoso the two other expasion profesion for mesmer that would allow you to fill the gaps and make your life easier.

If you dont want to buy new content you have to options...

Stick to Core  / Chrono and get tough after many respawns 

or

Change to another class that allow you to roam with Hot xpecs (DareDevil, Druid, Scrapper, or Dragon Hunter would be better solo roamers than Chono or Core Mesmer)

@ApaWanka.2698 described the situation pretty well. As a new/returning player roaming with power core/chrono will probably be frustrating for quite some time. Takes a lot of practice to run these successfully in WvW. And it is worth mentioning that even once you’re practiced, other specs will simply outclass you. These builds look cool in a YouTube montage when a very good player destroys noobs, but they’re not particularly competitive.

For outnumbered fighting I would probably recommend to look into condition builds. But condition core/chrono isn’t played often because mirage and virtuoso are better at it.

It's a shame really that, as far as I understand, the core classes are not viable any more in favour of the specialisations...

I was also under the impression that Ascended gear was supposed to be about 5% better; but I guess old timers have them by now.
