Change the icon to show the duration timer so you can see when to detonate it.

One example is to add a golden edge to the icon that each second grows inward as it pulses and when it's full it's the maximum effect.

I think a better visual would be that orange “clock face” circle they use for stuff like the fishing contest events, so you can watch mechanics rather than your bar.

That could also work. I just want something, anything, so I can see the build-up. I think both at once would work since in the mosh in WvW it would make it really hard to see a clock face.
