Jokes aside, if ArenaNet introduces another support weapon for engineer, they're really showing their tone-deafness. Shortbow could be justified as being a ranged support weapon, but a profession with no weaponswap really doesn't need three support weapons.

Throwing the spear with some gadget attached is probably the most likely treatment, although I could see them deciding engi needs a full condi melee weapon so mace can be rebalanced into more dedicated support.

Staff!

maybe a nanomancer using nanobots to cast "spells"?

or golemancer, with skills being either golem summoning skills or maybe skills to enhance/heal active golems, with skill 5 allowing you to pilot a golem and get all new skills.

that's actually a great idea, maybe a bit anachronic to the supposed game setting but nanobots could make cool skills, though focus would maybe make more sense in this regard

Sword offhand or mace offhand 🥸

Nah. I don't want another weapon, I want another kit. Something like Tool Kit, not like bomb or grenade kit with copy pasted abilities.

Or shortbow kit XD

Staff that can control a golem. I want to be a golemancer.

Mechanist?

A staff that approximates what Inquest golemancers and golemcasters do would complete that, though. With more of a technological theme than an elementalist one, but there's precedent for that.
