The future is "Revealed 2.0"

Hello all,

this is not supposed to be a thread about a possible GW3. Instead, I would like to talk about the debuff "Revealed".
As you all know, one topic never leaves the forum: stealth and its counter.
You always read the same lines stealth abuse / stealth needs to be nerfed / more access to reveal for all classes.
And yes, it's true. Everyone thinks about all 3 points mentioned in a duel against a thief. However, stealth is an essential part of the thief playstyle.

Finding an appropriate balance here to make everyone happy is a nightmare.
The reason is that stealth is crucial for both offensive and defensive play. In addition, there are many traits that are linked to stealth access. Every cut in stealth has such a negative effect on the thief's offensive/defensive play.
Reveal (from enemy) then becomes absolute overkill, completely negating access to stealth. Even more access to reveal for other classes is therefore unthinkable!
Balance very difficult. Result: Status quo remains the same.

To get things moving again, I suggest reworking the "Revealed" debuff.
In my opinion, we need 2 different debuffs for revealed, depending on the source:

  • self-applied-reveal
  • externally-applied-reveal

As before
self-applied-reveal: triggered on successful stealth attack. Effect as before (stealth buff not accessible).

Now the important part
externally-applied-reveal: triggered by other players, monsters or the environment. This form of reveal does NOT block the stealth buff. The thief (or any other stealth class) still has access to it, but remains visible to all. The clue here is that it is still possible for the thief to use stealth attacks or trigger stealth related traits. Let's call it unfinished stealth.

At first glance, this change is certainly an advantage for the thief. Now reveal is no longer a death sentence. It still leaves room for offensive and defensive play and no longer blocks entire trait lines or access to stealth attacks!
The upside for non-thief players is that Anet may be able to create more access to reveal with this change.
A win-win situation for everyone and long overdue.

Implementation suggestion to change as few lines of code as possible:
The currently implemented version of the debuff reveal gets the change for externally-applied-reveal.
This means that the "new" debuff reveal only needs to be created and assigned for the thief and its invisibility attack. Here with the properties we already know (self-applied-reveal).
