Anyone enjoy playing on Ryzen 3600x + CPU?

Recommended Posts

To be honest the single core performance of the 3600x isn't higher than the 6700k, depending on motherboard, ram and OC it might even be worse (by +-2%). So you shouldn't see any difference while playing Guild Wars 2, unless you also do a lot of other things at the same time that require a lot of CPU power, to take advantage of the better multi-core performance of the 3600x.

3600X can be higher than a stock clock 6700k in some scenarios, but a 6700k overclocked to the average result of 4500-4700MHz or so (largely limited by the TIM used under the CPU lid in place of solder) will have minimally higher single threaded or quadcore performance (within 2%).

For example:Typical Cinebench R15 result single thread for i7-6700k @ 4.6GHz is around 200 ; multicore around 1000 (i9-9900k = 220 single ; ~2050 multicore)Typical Cinebench R15 result single thread for i7-6700k stock is around 183 ; multicore around 870 to 930 ishTypical Cinebench R15 result single thread for Ryzen 5 3600X is around 202 ; multicore around 1650 ishTypical Cinebench R15 result single thread for Ryzen 5 2600x is around 176 ; multicore around 1370 to 1400ish depending on memory and reviewer

3600X is typically compared against the 7th, 8th, and 9th gen Intel parts which have higher clockrates out of the box. Functionally a i7-6700k is equal to i7-7700k with lower out of the box clocks.

Guru3d actually has Ryzen 3rd gen ahead of Coffee Lake (intel 9th gen) in IPC for Cinebench R15 and so does techspot (hardwareunboxed on Youtube) for Ryzen 3rd gen @ 4GHz vs i9 @ 4GHz in CB R20 , Corona, and V-ray. For gaming when the memory subsystem is strained, i9-9900k manages a few frames more in techspot's test in some games due to the Intel ringbus : the Ryzen 3rd gen chip uses larger L3 cache so that's the equalizer. (see https://www.techspot.com/article/1876-4ghz-ryzen-3rd-gen-vs-core-i9/)"Normalising the scores for frequency, we see that AMD has achieved something that the company hasn’t been able to claim in over 15 years: It has beat Intel in terms of overall IPC. Overall here, the IPC improvements over Zen+ are 15%, which is a bit lower than the 17% figure for SPEC2006." - https://www.anandtech.com/show/14605/the-and-ryzen-3700x-3900x-review-raising-the-bar/6

mrauls has twitch/youtube in their signature so I'm assuming some sort of multitasking is going to occur; combined with the OS overhead the Ryzen 3rd gen chip will provide better headroom and improved minimum frametimes.
