alright then instead of invuln everyone does zero damage for 1 sec when entering combat.

Still in the same scenario. The only way I could see an extreme idea like this working would maybe make it to where the maximum damage any one player can receive in one second is 75% of their health. That means it will always take at least two seconds and two rounds of burst to kill someone always giving them a chance to fight back. This would probably have some major balance issues though.
