  1. Re Dishonour Time out I like that idea, you gain it after not doing anything for 15 seconds after spawn at base, and it drops when you reengage in a fight after say 10 seconds of combat.  At end of game if you had dishonour flag for more than say 2 minutes in total then you lose all rewards and your name is flagged as dishonourable discharge.

  2. There's other reasons new races are not worth the investment over other types of content. First, they only appeal to existing players who ALT and are also interested in the new race/class, and secondly, new classes are unlikely to generate an influx of new players who will join as a result of the new class.

nope, personally ranged ele is boring. remember just cause you don't like something doesn't mean the world agrees with you.

but cause i'm nice personally i'd prefer that ele had decent melee and ranged options

We already have plenty of melee builds, and nothing for range that has not been butchered via a designer who thinks balancing ele means spinning like yoda on steroids on a test dummy for deepeeeess.

y'all obviously don't know about Red Resign in guild wars 1....

the community figured out if red team always resigns you can farm rewards extremely fast. it's pretty obvious anet thinks the community will do it again so they haven't added surrender.

what do you think? do you have access to weapons grade copium and think it wouldn't happen again?

Yeah that's the problem, it only takes a few bad eggs who value wins and loot over gameplay for this kind of thing to snowball uncontrollably, its inevitable.

Buying one game 19 years ago and then buying another 12 years ago (or yesterday) doesnt make one a particularly loyal customer. Someone who never played GW1 and only bought GW2 a couple of years ago, but has spent a grand on gems is potentially a better customer.

It's made for the lightning rod trait with interrupt sigils. Sword weaver is now playable in WvW again.

Its made because a certain profession designer has no clue about ele apart from an unhealthy skew towards melee ele.  Its literally been a trail of crude unskilled bodges of the last year, for EG the utter incompetent screw ups over signets, and now this mess

There is absolutely no reason to think that guild wars 3 will be the same style of game. Might not even be an MMO. Might be a battle royal kind of game. There is no indication that Guild wars 2 will stop being developed.

This is like saying WOW will stop being developed just because they will make a Warcraft 4.

I am not worried in the slightest that the attention will continue to be on guild wars 2 as most likely whoever is working on maybe that guild wars 3 mobile game or whatever it is is a completely different team from the new batch of hires. So stop the drama.

aside from the fact its not been confirmed that GW3 will be made, it will be highly probably that GW3 is a MMORPG .  IF GW3 is a MMORPG then GW2 will flip to automated maintenance on release day.

  7. and so this question yet again.  Surrender doesn't solve the problem it makes it worse, i.e it will get abused by bad players with no fortitude, malicious players, selfish players and new players never learn.  The answer is fixing the root problem not the symptom, which means fast balance cycles for a start from ANET, and players losing the mindset that pvp is only good if you win amongst others.

  8. with regards to this thread, it is full of odd extrapolations and people airing random grievances about XYZ but the inescapable truth is the following assuming GW3 is planned to be made:

Either you continue to enjoy and love GW2 as you do now and then decide if you want to Buy GW3 when it releases with the knowledge GW2 will flip to maintenance mode or you don't and leave the GW universe when you decide to stop playing GW2.

Just some ideas. Maybe, although it isn't something that's unheard of in other games we have item discovery through crafting and using existing recipes and experimenting with them. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild does that with some unique results. And it is an element people enjoy. Does that mean It'll translate well to something like an MMO? If A guild wars 3 is actually an MMO? Hard to say. Of course BotW doesn't show you discovered recipes which I don't like so I wouldn't want that.

Gearing and stats are a bit more important for me in what I personally want for a Guild Wars 3. Crafting as a means to get there is a good path but I'm not sure it should be the only path there.

Also, Hall of Monuments is significantly different from housing. Hall of monuments is a trophy rack. It doesn't have real utility. Final Fantasy 14 has retainers for your home you can have do tasks for you so there is more uses for housing including crafting along with the retainers.

yeah HOM is indeed a trophy rack with some rewards attached, its a neat way of recognising your accomplishments with a fresh start.  There is zero point carrying across your gear from GW2,  as the whole point of a new game is new content/rewards/gameplay/graphics etc.

The argument was that it's smart to do GW3, because GW2 income would plummet down after GW3 gets released. Which is quite idiotic if you do apply logic to it. You do not release a game to stave off financial issues release of that very game would cause.

no it wasn't, you chose to play it that way in your head because you want to argue about something.  what was said in effect is that IF Anet were indeed developing GW3 then that decision clearly indicates that they predict GW3 will give more profit, and on that basis obviously when GW3 goes live GW2 will go into maintenance mode,  i.e they have thrown the dice and have decided GW3 wins and know it will kill off GW2 profits when GW3 is released.

If Anet are developing GW3 then the facts speak for themselves, there is nothing to dispute here.

Ah, yes, so they are making GW3, because they believe GW2 will stop giving profits after GW3 will sideline it and push it into maintenance mode. Yes, that's a logical conclusion, obviously we do need GW3 out well before GW3 will kill GW2 [/s]

i haven't a clue what you just said, but if Anet are developing GW3 then Ipso facto right.

The quarterly income statements from GW2 that NCSoft was releasing do not seem to support that theory.

Its safe to say they will be projecting forward 5-10 years because of the lead time.  If they are developing GW3 its because they evidently do see that the profits will be bigger and conversely obviously they don't see the profits in GW2 (since GW3 will push it into maintenance mode)

  13. not sure what's so confusing about that, its not rocket science, but as an example I want to spend money on GW2, i would love to, but there is nothing left to buy.  I have:

    - All the armor, pet/mount skins I want, all the utilities, full shared slots/templates etc etc.

    - As a result of the vault I now have several thousand gold and 2 further legendries for selling on the way - and nothing to spend the gold on either!

    - Even Black lion chest are pointless, see above.

I wont  be the only vet in this position that's for sure as I only play casually.

As long as they implement Hall of monuments in GW2 to recognise and carry on my achievements into GW3 then im sold and more than happy to put my money into a new GW world.

I DO NOT NEED NOR WANT GW3............... GW2 is such a friggin good game and good community.  SO much potential to grow with a continuous game.

Unfortunately, EXECS are veryyy good at taking something that is working well and "fixing it."
Usually they leave within a couple years of their position too, with a trail of kitten-ups in their wake, while they "move up" to "fix" more of what was working before them.

The problem is that as time goes on and the player base gets richer and get all the items attractive to them less and less gems are bought.  With no sub as well this is the ultimate death-knell of GW2 and this is why we need GW3.

It's just complex navigation along with far more difficult encounters. I am pretty sure it's more popular to talk about than it is for people to play it.

People enjoy the desert far more due to the less convoluted way to get around the map. Cantha has dramatic differences between the areas. SotO has the grand scale magical feeling. Each brings something interesting to the table.

When I am farming or looking for something specific, HoT maps are usually my last choice.

Its not 'Just' , The reason the HOT maps are wonderful in terms of  both the art and the complex layering, designing that was no mean feat I would guess.   Hot maps are interesting for those that love exploration and something other than a big flat map with a few valleys and caves.

Farming is not necessarily a reason to visit a map, especially with an  older with older Meta.  That doesn't make it a bad design, it just means players are consuming other more recent content, or for farmers, farming the most cost efficient map based on current currencies and demand.

Dunno if that's how it works. The new engine might have better performance for GW2 but that's not the context. It'll be GW3 with new stuff in it that will have to be balanced with the new engine's performance. They can't just make a GW3 with GW2 graphics after all.

Agree.  The new gfx engine will be designed to take advantage of threading etc but offset with greater cost of better fidelity and support for 4k etc.  At best performance will be the same, and more likely to be lower.

GW2 is successfull because it does not have much competition. (and it's not a bad game)
imagine, a mmorpg with barely any vertical progression, very casual pve for anyone to enjoy, multi branching (for the core story, not dlc) story missions, no monthly subs, not korean (with everything that this imply) and without any pay to win, actually the best tab target combat there is and with the only working WvW out there (well there is somehow aion and teso but one is outdated and the other is simply worse than GW2.)
GW2 is pretty unique in the mmorpg industry.
then there is the nostalgia factor.
and that's why GW2 is still popular despite all the issue it has.
saying that everything in GW2 is great because it is successfull is blind love.

i didnt say it was all great, i said it had great stuff in it, which it does otherwise you wouldn't have people spending literally thousands of hours in game. I also agree with your points, not sure what you are arguing against

having everyone as mindless dps with random aggro goes against =>

have you tried raids? you actually have a healer and a pseudo tank (in fact still a dps but with a tiny bit more armor than evreyone else. usually a guard.) and everyone else as dps. with some condi focus and some power focus.
mimicking a bit who the trinity works without embrassing it completely.

the aggro system i spoke of do not force you to have a trinity. you could still go full dps team. but this tiome, with rules that disctate how the fight will play out instead of randomness that push you to just optimise your build to squeeze out the most dps you can with disregarding everything else.
and ultimately, this aggro system (and also the trinity system, but thats not what i am talking about here.) proved to be the best through years of gaming. GW2 tried to reinvent the wheel but it failed. sometimes you better improve on what works instead of trying to change everythign and make it worse.

I raided for 10 years in WOW at 25 hours a week so yes i have raided. Raiding in GW2 is a minority activity because its not aligned with the games USP which most people play for.  A big part of that USP is hybrid builds.  when you talk about 'aggro system' this actually infers manipulating the boss targeting to allow optimisation and specialisation of roles, and specialisation is the opposite of hybridisation.

I think he interprets your post as "I want to keep the current system" and then you proceed in telling what you want differently. So in their mind that's contradictory. Whereas you just want to take the current situation as a baseline and make some changes to that but not change the entire thing.

Yeah, its common sense really, GW2 is successful so it has great stuff, keep the great stuff and improve or add to it.

    you are contradicting yourself...

lol what is this narrative you have in your head. I love GW2, I would also love to see an improved GW3; bigger, better gfx,  housing, more customisation and better physics and so on.  What I don't want is a trinity style game, I would play games that have specialised in that if that's what I wanted, and its fundamentally not what the GW USP is about.

    what would you suggest instead?

What we have just now, with even less skills that lean towards tank n spank dullness.

Put it this way if you are 'sad' and 'confused' by the idea that fight volatility beats tank n spank in terms of facilitating build diversity you may be misunderstanding the USP of GW.   WOW is the rightful market leader in that regard, and GW universe haoffered us something different., not all mmorpg needs to be the same.

  22. agree with almost all points apart from aggro system.  Aggro systems ultimately turns into dull-witted manipulate the boss position strategies so we can tank n spank with a dps meter dictating builds.  We want more dynamic fights where people need to react to changing circumstances, breathing life into interesting hybrid builds and ultimately build diversity.

I agree 100%. The joy of reading has been bled out of our culture, and it has serious implications in general. But even if you look just at the games themselves, the lore is a core part of the medium. Video games, over other forms of entertainment, are special because they engage multiple cognitive faculties, and combine more than one modality. The music, the visuals, the story-telling are all equally important parts, and they are really what makes the mechanics make sense (or not)! I personally have nothing against achievements, and even enjoy them in some cases. Same for mastering the mechanics. But without the associated things that make immersion in the game's world possible and rewarding I see no reason to master any mechanics.

yep, its like the great books, for e.g LOTR. LOTR is a long  book to read and has long passages interspersed with exciting moments that we all love, like when gandalf dies in the mines etc.   Now if you skim LOTR you lose the world building and engagement with the characters.  Same deal with MMRPGs.
