My general starting proposition is to remove the second weapon

    Absolutely!!!!

No one will pick up the weapon intentionally because it will screw their rotation for something totally unfamiliar

I decided to test this on the golem and you're right.

For me and my gear vs an avg sized golem with avg health

    • warhorn fire 5 did approx 25k per cast total damage vs 2 casts of dagger 4 (2 casts since its a 12 sec cd vs war 5's 24 sec) doing approx 15k total damage
    • warhorn light 5 did something like 8k single target per cast vs almost negligible damage for both dagger lightning abilities
    • water did favor the warhorn for damage but dagger's water abilities I think are better defensively with e
    • earth dagger 5 was slightly better overall damage vs warhorn earth 5.  It inflicts a huge amount of bleeding

I guess this is one of those situations where the ability descriptions really fail to fully describe how the abilities work.  Dagger does provides 54% more CC bar damage, defensive utility and mobility and I can see why its the clear choice for pvp/wvw.  Warhorn is certainly better in pve.

    i stand corrected.

  3. I’m wondering if Warhorn is recommended over dagger in pve because it’s more group friendly which was more important before elite specs and specialized support builds became so impactful. Now in raid and strikes each subgroup has 2 support guys bringing heals, alac, quick, stab, and might out the wazoo, the  subpar  boons/heals from a guy running full viper or zerk isn’t really useful, but the paradigm remains and people use warhorns because they always have.

  4. for roaming and 1v1 dueling look at celestial catalyst d/d. You will be tough but hardly god like.

Seriously where are these elementalist gods others complain about?  Thieves and Mesmers on the other hand…. Hate them but I refuse to join them too

  5. I do a lot of posting from my phone and the mobile site version of this forum  doesn’t show all the same formatting options as the desktop version. Is there a forum markdown for this site?

My searches seem to indicate that markdown doesn’t exist for this site. My attempts to use markdown and html tags which other sites recognize don’t work here .  Requesting the desktop site doesn’t work either to show the missing formatting options on the formatting toolbar

  6. For support builds Warhorn brings better abilities, without question, but for condi dps everything I see in dagger is just significantly better:  better baseline strike damage, way more bleed and burning condi damage, far stronger breaker bar dmg (50% better), plus some decent movement and condi cleanse. Only 1 Warhorn ability, Lightning 5, compares favorably to the dagger abilities for dps.

Yet, every guide I’ve seen recommends warhorn and doesn’t mention dagger offhand at all.  Am I missing something?

  7. There are a lot of complaints about all the artisans of arms achievements because the kill only counts if the strike damage from that weapon does the killing blow. In other words you are screwed if

    * you do 99% of the damage and another player dies the last 1%
    * your pet finishes off the baddie

    * condi damage kills it

    * utility and/off hand/other weapon kills it

     Anet has acknowledged the issue

and plans to change the achievement so that credit is granted if you do any damage with the weapon. When that change will happen… ?

  8. When I googled this relic I found a lot of people unhappy with its damage and a few comments on how some shadowstep/deception abilities can drop you out of combat and once out of combat, the relic won’t proc. No idea how accurate that is but it also sounded like it was by design.

what I don’t see is any report about group content and issues like you describe. I think that it’s very likely the streamer was talking out of his a—.

  9. condi weapons should have abilities that inflict lots of damage dealing conditions like bleeding, burning, torment, poison. They will deal some strike damage as well but it’s clearly secondary

power weapons should have abilities that have high strike damage and if they have conditions it will be things like vulnerability and movement-related things like chill or weakness.

Necro sword is clearly designed as a power weapon. That should also not be surprising either since weapons nearly always fill the same the same role across all professions. For example, warhorn, pistol, scepter and dagger are nearly always condition weapons for every profession that uses them. Whereas sword, great sword, longbow and focus are nearly always power weapons.

if you really want a condi necro build stick with some combo of pistol, scepter, warhorn and dagger.

Just brought 6 runes of scholar for my armor,

Technically you need a 7th rune to always keep the 6-rune bonus.  When you go under water your helm (and it’s rune) gets replaced with the Aqua breather (and the rune in it).

It would be weird to be able to rename actual characters of the story, so they probably won't let us do that.

There are plenty of generically named minis that have zero lore relevance like “mini outlaw puppy” and “mini lavish lama” and those are the ones we should  be able to name

  12. Are there any gw2 addons that facilitate role playing activities?  Especially looking for anything that allows me to post /emote and /say.  For example, if my character had a catch phrase or 2 that I liked to use in combat I could click a button, which sends the /say to gw2, and not lose combat efficiency because I'm doing several things at once.  Ideally I would have a series of buttons for many different say/emote with text messages that I could customize and create.

  13. Tempest pistol has definitely grown on me to the point where I’m shelving my scepter in favor of pistol now. The rotation isn’t hard: if you want damage you go 3-2, for defense you go 2-3 (except for water).   Plus mix in whatever you want to use from the offhand and overload  for fire/earth, then you switch attunements. Water is actually worth using with it.  Air still seems meh for condi dmg.

There are a few things I don’t like about pistol

     1. if you get interrupted/knocked down while trying to cast the bullet generator that ability can go on cd without giving you a bullet and it’s too hard to tell if there is one from the boon bar

    2. Air 3 is too glitchy.  Most of the time i just want to crash into my target with it instead of flying past out of position. I don’t have this issue when D-4 Ride the Lighting, yet somehow this mini pistol version is harder to control. I will probably skip air in my loop unless I need the mobility or cc.
    3. They should have switch waters abilities around to be consistent with how things worked in the other elements. Water does deviate from the defensive ability on 2 instead of 3.

    4. This one isn’t too bad but the auto attack feels a bit slow compared to other professions version of pistol. I know it’s not but it feels slow comparatively. But given the rotation is all about hitting CD abilities, there should rarely be a moment when the auto attack has an opportunity to trigger.

  14. There have been many updates recently to arcdps, sometimes more than 1 in 24 hours. It’s seems like every new version downloaded resets at least some of the previous arcdps settings. To me that’s not a big deal for a 100% free addon that’s been so extremely useful

Make sure that you dance irl everyday.

That was an awesome find.  Dude just won the forum.

ETA: I think the king of dances might be FF14.  Their cash shop sells a new dance every other month I think.

  16. Gaming companies don’t always keep the same voice actors throughout the life of their products, same people aren’t always available when you need them and all that,  but they nearly always keep the existing/old recorded dialogue and just use the new actor for new dialogue because voice acting is expensive.

It has happened though. Blizzard did it with Quinton Flynn because some high profile charges were leveled at the actor at one point  and the company felt inclined to completely dissociate with him.  Blizz was also dealing with a ton of other harassment and discrimination lawsuits at the same time and the general consensus is that they did what they did with the voice actor to show that “we take these kinds of things seriously”; if Blizz wasn’t in such legal hot water in so many other areas they would have not done anything.  That sort of thing is extremely rare though.

  17. It seems only killing blow using the specific new weapon matter for this achievement and while that might be OK for most strike/power builds, for other builds that rely on pets, utility abilities, profession skills and other things it works very poorly.  For example, if my engineer's Aim-Assisted Rocket damage (an Explosives Trait ability) strikes the killing blow the kill doesn't count towards the achievement even if 99% of the damage came from the new short bow.  If I use a "regular Mechanist build" only 1 out of every 4 or 5 kills count towards the achievement.

It sucks that I have to use an intentionally underperforming, bad engineer build and rotation to guarantee my kills are coming from the bow.

Please rework the achievements so the new weapons don't have to get the killing blows, only tag the enemy allowing regular builds and rotations to actually be used.

my guess would be the class to boost would be the one most boring or hard to level would be a good guess but I'm open to hearing what you guys think.

I would mostly agree with that but leveling doesn’t become hard for any prof until after you hit 80 and you’re going for hero points to train up the elite specs. On some specs you can’t do many hp’s solo that other specs could do solo.

if you’ve been around awhile you may have many Experience scrolls that anet gives as birthday gifts, like this:

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience_Scroll_(level_60)

there’s one for Level 20, 30, 40 as well.  With the Experience Scroll to 60 in the link it will boost a character from level 1 to 60.  Then burn through some Tomes of Knowledge or Tomes of Mentorship and you’re level 80.  the only difference with that “boost” and the official level 80 boost is the level 80 boost comes with free exotic celestial armor and an exotic weapon, and maybe some waypoints unlocked (not sure about the wps).
