Or make GS hit with lower dmg and higher focus on its utility effects that it could have like daze or block, evade or blind, detarget or just simple swift reposition of the player character build in one of the weapon skills if it hits successfully, etc. etc. Stuff like that instead of black n' white dilemma between huge slow dmg or low fast dmg. It all comes down design choices and ideas devs could have including the ini cost of such skills.Regarding the idea of fast low dmg i wouldn't mind off-hand sword filling that role at all.

    dude just like I said It will still be an issue since the spam we will be allowed with Ini will overtune the buffs and utility we would gain from GS skillsit is like d/d 3 spam or staff 3 spamThe same thing but you will have huge GS in ur hands with big range either spamming utility or dmg and it is going to be CANCER v 3.0

    Also I hav noted that we cant have more daze implemented into the ini spam cuz it would cause chaos. You'd be able to stunlock ppl and kill them in single burst because of how strong dps of a GS isAnd they cant simply use smaller values on a GS just cuz it is for thief. What kind of GS is it? A plastic? GS has some basic values around which it moves just like all weaponsAlso p/d style on GS is tbh quite stupid like if you hit an opponent with a GS you reposition urself (shadowstep lets say) away.Like what? You stroke him so hard you flew away xDNot that it wouldnt be fitting. Imagine hitting a war and flying away cuz the force you put into the hit wasnt enough to harm him and he reflected it back to you so you flew away like a Noodle xD

  2. If anyone will get GS it will be Revenant. They can be Samurais = Heavy armor GS and they are blinking we all know that. Thief will get either Torch or Sword off hand. Since Anet cant allow us to get Stun locking Bursts of Hammer or a Mace. Axe is too strong for the ini as well. And Thief will not get Horn or Focus until a single sane person works in Anet. That would send all the normal Thieves away to other game publishers and Anet cant afford loosing customers like any normal company

  3. So. To be completely honest I had to think of this for a few minutes and I have done so because the amount of ppl who want GS for next E-spec is too darn high. But I have came up with a simple and understandable explanationThe reason why Thief will not be able to ever have Greatsword, Hammer, Axe and Mace is simpleInitiative System

    Let me explain this and elaborate on examplesI start with GSThe main reason is DMGfor that smart person who will come in and say that they can make it support weapon yea the support is issue as well.

    Lets have a comparison from other classes using GSlets go with the very basic AA since that one has smallest dmg out put Each of the AA's of each mentioned class has cast time at least 1/2 sec (i am not counting in the buffs or dmging condi the grant just dmg output) I will not use Mesmer and Reaper because in this case the AA is ranged which doesnt fall within Melee class perspective.Note. Again I note that AA is the weakest of all Attacks usually the other 4 attacks are growing in strenght of dmg or support you gain and so they would cost more ini and in other classes they have bigger CD and castgin time. So I am using the AA to illustrate only the smallest possible dmg this change would do to a game. It would get worse the more attacks i would consider

    THESE ARE BASE DMG MODIFIERS THAT CAN BE AMPLIFIED BY ARMOR AND BOONS

    Warior AA=> 282+383+504 = 1169

    Guardian AA => 323+323+484 = 1130

    Ranger => 258+323+524 = 1105

    Note = These are core classes

    Only weapon Thief has that can compare to these 3 is Staff with AA dmg 269+269+676 = 1214Another note = We couldnt have Staff before DrD if you remember which means this shouldnt be taken into consideration since other specs had their new Weapons by then which again did more dmg than ours

    The strongest of Core weapon AA's was the one of main hand Dagger with 220*2+238+403 = 1081which isnt as much as the GS of basic Core classes did.

    The reason behind this is that Thief works on base of Speed (at least it is supposed to)Ten thousand tiny little cuts = TTTLCClasses that have GS work like BAM you're dead = BURD

    If you give a weapon like GS (or Hammer) to a Thief that is supposed to attack FAST and has Initiative which allows him to BURST FAST DMG You will create The single most OP cancer there is.We have seen what happened when they have introduced DE they gave us Rifle a weapon that has High basic dmg output and Thieves ini system allowed Deadeyes to kill anything and everything insantly. They had to nerf all other traits to the floor just to compensate out the DE since they couldnt just nerf the elite they have released 2 days ago.

    Remember the iconic 5s killing of 4m golem?Peperdige Farm remembers.

    That is the perfect example of what will happen if we get GS. 1st it will be new and buggy and when traited with our stuff it will become insanely strong weapon since its basic dmg modifier amplified by our Burst ability will make it 1 shot kill. And we dont want that. We have had enough of that snice Pof came out.Can you imagine a Thief with a GS blinking to you. Smacking you 5 times with GS which will kill you within those 5 Attacks? GS is slow because it deals 2nd most dmg in game after Hammer slow attacks GS has we wouldnt survive until we would strike someone and that is why it would have to be faster and if Thief makes them fast the game will become unplayable.

    Cuz thief players are praying that their class will rise from the dead. Every balance patch for a thief is like a false hope "It's gonna be this one! Right now! I just know it! Surely buffs incoming!" .. but once u read patch notes u just facepalm and ALT+F4 for another 2-3 months.

    I mean sure but some of us are strong eniugh to fight evwn against the bad odds we might not be winning but we at least dont give up and Adaptanyway this thread was for all classes not just thieves

    I think melee condi build have their place. I’m also not going to go so far as to say one is always better than another. But I’d point out that with range you have the ability to always apply pressure outside of projectile denial. With melee you can be kited and with range you can be off-point and still a threat.

    Another thing, I can apply condi on my Auto, my Stealth Attack, on Shadowstrike, on Repeater and on Dancing Dagger. That diversity doesn’t make it better but it does make it competitive with D/D condi.

    Yea i agree with it the distance is annoying for d/d. Amd if you run out of dodges before the p/d thief is dead things get rly stuck [An Original Joke] but that is not always an advantage.I know comparing a god tier player who knows all maps completely and knows where he ports with Shadowstrike and knows where he lands to someone who is not as skilled is something i will get roasted for as to my absolutelly visible lack of SKILL but if the build is to be good even a noob has to be able to use it. Which brings me to the point that p/d goes backwards.Shadowstrike always backwards in straight line. Scorpion wire is one alternative as i have mentioned so basically aftger Shadowstrike even lands there is chance to simply pull the p/d thief back. (Again it is just a possible example) AND if player doesnt master the map they will simply get ported to places like the wall at the point at Waterfal at FotF and get wrecked in their face. Or Mid in Arena atm pillars are obscuring a lot.

    Not to mention a skilled trapper will simply outlive your first attacks cleanse wile putting some traps and then as you get to him he will aim you at those traps and as you shadowstrike you will send yourself backwards right into Death Trap [Original Pun v 2.0] And just to mention this. Yes I do that. If I fight a p/d thief if I ever meet one I do that. Shadowstrike has this one little issue and so does s attack 2 and all shadowsteping attacks. They mow down all traps and ground effects they pass within aproximatelly 100 range of the place they land at. It is not much put it is usable.Mostly because player is counted as a circle on the ground which if you can place properly will get dmged or wont get dmged.

    And even better is that if you even land that hit you automatically end out of the point so you have to return back again. I know steal works for that and signet of precision as well and shadowstep and all others yea but that automatically takes away a utility off you which could be helping you to either have better sustain or better dmg.So if you lets say imob a spellbreaker on the far and even if you interupt his rampage before he casts it you are still wasting 2 sec out of the point giving him 8 stacks of torment tops and some bleeds which he will cleanse or simply ignore in case of soulbeast or holo.

    As far as comparing the stack amount I can proudly say that 40 stacks of poison 23 stacks of bleed and up to 5 tornment stacks +imob criple and 1 sec daze are quite okay for a condi burst :P Only class i saw survive this with aproximatelly 10% life was Druid.

    I would say in terms of brawler and 1v1 d/d (well more like sb + d/d) is way better than p/d simply because you dont move so much and you got time to see how you want your opponent to be so you can defeat them. It is more startegic for me I'd say. p/d simply seems too blink out asap so you can use your AA then 2 and then blink in and out repeat.It might be i am wrong it is just waht i saw/tried in game

    EDITAnd yea i agree it is competetive with d/d.It is hard to fight tbh but still it is easier than fighting some other class focused on condi brawling like guardian or Ranger Trapper (yea those still exist)

    dude i know but it is stil poke run away poke. That is not brawling. Not to mention projectiles are useless agaisnt anything that can evade block or have aegis on itI am not saying it is bad build but it is not a brawler type of build. And that is why it is not 100% functional in its condi purpouse.All condi based builds require you to be within reachI can literally name all condi (normal ones ofc not poison p/p DE and stuff) builds in this game and they all have one single thing in common. They all have to stay within range of their attacks to be able to upkeep the condi (except for scourge cuz DUH Anet at its finest)And that is why p/d cant be better than d/d. Not saying it is bad or anything i am sure it gives good results but the point is still that w/o the melee range to apply the condi and with the fact your condi are applicable by ranged weapon it cant simply get that efficient.Only 2 weapons in this game I can say is ranged based condi weapon is long bow since Berserker and i guess Dragonhunter and shorbow on anything that has it.

    That you prefer one build type over another hardly means the build therefore better or more interesting to play. I have both a d/d Condi build and a p/d condi build and prefer the playstyle of the p/d build recognizing it has many advantages over the other.

    There a wide swathe of people who do not like Thief playstyle at all and avoid playing theif. This does not translate to all of those builds being better. To each their own.

    I said i do not underestimate power of the build i said that it is required to play it the way which is not rly a brawler and that takes away the form a condi thief has. condi thief is strongly based on brawl an smarts ab staying alive cloae to enemyp/d takes this away that is what i saidand that is why i disagree with itthere are rly only two condi builds for thuef rn and only one of them is still rly a brawling one abd p/d is not the one

  13. Dude please dont praise Tornment p/d so much. It is not as good as you portrait it. Srsly i have played against MANY p/d thieves. Some of them using your build and it isnt working as much as my d/d is. I am not saying it is not good build. But it is not that good it would need so much praise. Also it is annoying to fight. It is not like it would kill you every time. But it is rly annoying. Not to mention Tronment and bleeds are the first to go out with cleanse on dodge so... yea thats what i mean

    Oh I meant nerfs. I like DS as an elite. A full reset on that elite has a little too much RNG and a little too much impact. Nerf/change that and buff the rest of Thief to where it needs to be in the current meta. That would be what I’d do.

    what would you nerf on DS tho? Evade frame? movement speed? projectiles? even the whirling axes we get from warior give us projectile reflecion and do cause way more dmg and do cast projectiles if within any fieldonly difference is those axes dont have evade frame and we all know that the DS is only casted when it is needed the 90 sec CD is scary enough to make ppl think before they reset.I have never viewed DS as too much of an OP skill atm i would say that DS is actually the single only Elite we have that can be compared in terms of dmg with basic AA from any other class

    In this Balance patch we would like to focus on overperforming abbilities of some of the older traits that could make Thief class to overperform a bit in certain areas

    All Evades on DD are now gonna apply ExhaustionBase initiative cost of all Attacks 3 is now increased by 2You deal critical hits to weakened foes now but you will be able to apply weakness only once each 3rd attackBoon duration of Swiftness is now increased by 20% we would like to reduce Fury duration by 20% so we can balance this buff to the classBasic dagger skills seem to be underperforming as of late so we are going to buff the output of some of its skillsCloack and Dagger nowhas its basic dmg increased by 100 and each time you use it succesfully you will gain 5 might this skill now has increased cast time to 3/4 secWe would like to encourage the usage of some of the very first dagger attacks we had at hand in the very begining of our game just to refresh some repressed memories for you so if you run dager in main hand and you use your attack 3 skill your 3 skill will now change to [Twisting Fangs] until you use this skill we are going to increase the base power dmg by 200 and remove bleed stacks from it the cast time of this skill is now reduced to 1/4 of a secondWe also think that the s/d core thief has been overperforming as of late so we are going to reduce Swords Attack 2 range to 600 and as a TRADE OFF if you use it you will gain Vigor and Regeneration for 2 seconds this attack no longer imobilizes your foe only cripples themWe would also like to reduce the CANCEROUS Staff builds in the game so we are gonna break all the staffs in game in half so basically your range of everything staff uses is reduced by 3/4 of its previous range
