  3. That is not an argument. The game industry is filthy rich, partly because it is badly regulated. Nobody, especially not the corporate suits who tend to push these unethical and exploitative moneymaking schemes, "needs" to scrabble for every sad cent to survive. They do it because of sheer greed. And franky, if a company "has" to rely on lootboxes, that is not a company that deserves to continue business because it does not live on customer satisfaction with quality products, it lives on scummy predatory practices that are overdue for better legislation across the planet. When I look at the games I enjoyed the most over the past years, none of them engaged in this BS. Many games do not. Please do not help the shady parts of the industry, especially among the immensely rich AAA studios, normalize increasingly unethical practices. This is not a situation of "oh these poor devs need to make money every way they can or we won't have any games anymore". It never has been, it never will be. And even if it was, it wouldn't be worth it. As much as I hate the new mounts, I'll be the first to stand up and shout this statement is false in pretty much everything it says. ArenaNet, just like any company, has to make money to feed its employees. Even EA, Bioware, Ubisoft and other studios need to do so. What you think being a multimillion dollar industry dilutes money very fast, because the food chain in entertainment business is very long and contains a ton of middle management to be able to offer what it does. If you think every developer can buy a new Mercedes every other week, you have absolutely no idea how gaming industry really works.anet employees need to eat yes, but if you really think anet's struggling just to make ends meet and pay its employees you're really naive. the greed we're talking about isn't the devs, it's the corporations that own them and want to keep lining their pockets with more and more additional revenue.
  4. The funny thing is I'd buy all thirty in a heartbeat if it weren't RNG. I can afford it right now, but others can't, and they don't deserve to have to wade through gambling hell to get the one or two skins they actually want. It's not about my wallet, it's about the ethics involved in lootbox type tactics.
  5. Yeah so I'm just confirming for you. The fear you mentioned in that post can be allayed, it's not the case. :)
  6. Uhhh they're skins, even if ppl without pof bought them they wouldn't be able to use them. They don't give you the mount--hence ppl who don't have the griffon being upset about getting griffon skins they can't even use.
  7. Regarding all the ppl saying this isn't any worse than BL keys: it's IN ADDITION to them. I hate BL keys and chests. I hate everything they stand for. This mounts business is just the straw that broke the camel's back.
  8. Oh, and on top of the complete lack of endgame content in POF? Focusing on cash grabs like this is really hollow. What's the point of shelling out cash on skins to look cool in a game with no new engaging gameplay to show them off in? Why would I buy skins when I'm bored of playing just a couple of months after a whole expansion? Serious misbalance of priorities here unless all you want to do is squeeze the last bit of money out of the game and let it die. If you want a healthy game, you have to invest, and that's not what I'm seeing right now.
  9. I'm here to buy ingame items, not gamble for them. Lootboxes are exploitative, a horrible continuation of the trend that's been happening with black lion drops becoming account bound so they can't be sold on the TP. It's one thing to have dye packs that might not drop the dye you want, but where you can still get that dye on the TP from other people who got duplicates. That's bad enough, but it doesn't require people to gamble to get the item they want. Recent black lion drops like the elemental sword, the dwayna wings, the dwayna bird mini, etc. require gambling, with no other options, and that's downright unacceptable. There's a reason gambling is regulated IRL, the fact that video games laws haven't caught up is not reason to be this unethical. Mount skins are another, huge step in that direction. Having to gamble, often ending up paying more than you can afford because of the nature of how gambling works, rather than paying a flat fee for the product you want like a normal, decent transaction. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on this game. I'm a huge skin addict. Hell, I'm working retail along with my usual freelance just so I can afford more gems, but I have never bought black lion keys and have no intention to do so. I also will not be buying any more gems, period, even for non-rng content, until I see this required rng trend stop. Not another cent out of me. I have the money for it now but not everyone does, and your willingness to take advantage of those people deeply disturbs me. I'm not supporting that. Lootboxes are the dirtiest tactic in video games at present and I'm absolutely disgusted that arenanet, the company I always thought of as better than the rest, has resorted to the same low blows as everyone else. Shape up, or this paying player is gone.
