Excuse me to have to say it but GW2 is a game, it's not work. You play a game to have fun, not to be on a tight schedule with strict goals to reach.

If the devs were to start to make the game the way you want I can garantee you that a large part of the playerbase would just quit.

Another Captain obvious reply. Yeah I know its a game and the aim is to have fun but here's something that might surprise you. Most events are on schedules in this game. They also spawn multiple times during the day.

Can you also tell us how you manage to know that a large part of the playerbase would quit? I mean do you work for Anet and have the data?

I think you're just picking holes in things for the sake of it.

I believe the issue is that the AFKr's affect the one that play to win. The game is coded in a way that the massive attribute pool of the mobs increase even more as there are more player characters around. Due to that, the more AFKrs, the more challenging it is for the one that play to win to actually win.

Also, your "suggestion" can only generate a wave of complaints from players that don't manage to find convergence where the various pre phase haven't already been done and thus they find themself unable to participate to the fight.

Yes that's fairly obvious from the OP and from the replies and yes I know how events scale due to numbers. I'm also well aware that the more AFK'rs there are the harder it is for those trying to win. I didn't just start playing the game yesterday!

That's the whole point of my suggestion. If you are not doing anything you shouldnt get any rewards. It would become pointless to just sit there AFK since you aren't going to get anything at the end of the event.

As for complaints from latecomers? Sorry, we all have clocks on our screens and can work out how to use /wiki et. You arrive late, the boat has sailed without you.

  3. They don't need to nerf the actual encounter.

Just make it so that you 1) cannot damage anything with skyscale fireballs. and 2) introduce a Participation counter for taking part in each phase.

If you don't have the counters you don't do any damage on the next phase. To get a reward from the boss you need all the participation levels from the previous phases.

Phase 1 - helping Zojja, killing Avatars of spite, destroying seige weapons or of the three Kryptis champions gives you Participation Level 1

Phase 2 - if you've not done any of the above you then you won't have Participation level 1 and therefore cannot damage anything. If you actively take part in this phase by killing seige, avatars of spite, a kryptis lieutenant, Generals etc, you receive Participation level 2.

Phase 3 - Legendary Sorrow/Demon Knight. If you've not got Participation level 1 and 2 you don't do any damage and get no loot at the end. Actively attacking the boss gives Pariticipation level 3.

Boss dies - you've got all 3 Participation levels? Nice, you get loot.

The above won't affect anyone playing to win, only AFKr's

Thx for the reply. I watched a yt-video. It should be the right one. Are there even 2 behemoths? I pat the one from the final battle which take part in the last fight.

Its been a while since I ran my characters through the map. You mentioned watching a YT video, was it this one?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRdI-F5vD2E

The creator of that video mentions that previously the location for the correct Jade Behemoth was a box and now its a Jade Behemoth, so not 100% sure if its the one at the final fight or one that spawns after the final fight. If you take a careful look at the mini map in the above video the one you need is sat on some sort of pad.

    Right click add to collection

That doesnt work for what the OP is talking about.

It also doesn't work if you get one via salvaging a yellow level weapon . It doesnt work if you get one via the BLTC. I've sent a number of bug requests about this since SoTO came out.

What did work was dropping one via an achiement. It just happened one day on a new character that I was levelling. Cannot remember the actual achievment now but the reward was a Glob of ectoplasm. As soon as I obtained it I got the greyed out ecto in all of the Legendary achievements unlocked.

  6. If I recall correctly Ridhais requires two things to appear and then act as a merchant for Caladbolg exchange within your home instance. She won't appear until you have completed the HoT Storyline and then spoken to Warden Leide near to the statue honouring Traherne in the Grove. The fact you can see her in your home instance shows that on that character you've done that.

The second thing you need to do is go through the Knight of the Thorn side quest on that character. The quest from what I recall is character specific

I suspect you did this quest on another character on your account and are now trying to do an exchange with one that hasn't. She basically treats you as a new individual.

If you can, try swapping the Caladbolg to a character that you know has finished the Knight of the Thorn side quest and then see if she will do the exchange.

EDIT - I've visited Ridhais on a couple of characters. This is what I expereienced.

The first one is a Ranger Sylvari. He has definately finished HoT and was the first one that I completed the Knight of the Thorn side quest on. He was able to see Ridhais without a star above her head in both the Sylvari and Asura home instances (I visited the Asura instance in case it was race specific). She was able to be interacted with and gave the option to exhange Caladbolg.

The second character was another Sylvari, this time a Thief. He has finished the HoT Storyline. When I took him to the Sylvari home instance Ridhais wasnt there. So I took him to Warden Leide, spoke to the Warden and then returned to the home instance. Ridhais was now present but she had a green star above her head.

When I spoke to her she said "That sword.... even seeing it in another hands..... etc." and gave me the option of handing over the broken Caladbolg to her. This is the start of the Knight of the Thorn side quest

Coincidentally this character has a Caladbolg sceptre equpped as well which probably has come from another one of my characters. Even having this unequpped in the inventory did not prompt Ridhais to do an exchange.

So it looks as if I was correct, you need to finish up the Knight of Thorn side quest to be able to get Ridhais to act as an exchange merchant.

Since it is not showing on all player accounts, I assume it is a faulty Local.dat.

I removed my Local.dat file and let GW2 rebuild it. The two entries are still there when I logged back in with the character who has 500 skill with Huntsman.

  8. A nice write up. For me the issue with the maps is that they seem to exist only to drive the story forward and nothing else. What I mean by that is that in HoT and PoF the maps were much bigger than the story required - there is always something going on off the storyline, quests, places to explore, weird little events happening. SoTO just has the feel and rewards of a Living story, which is particularly exacerbated by the episodic release of the "expansion".

Having said that I like the storyline and Peitha is clearly one of the more intersting characters that they have introduced. Still don't trust her though.

  9. Which Mystic forge are you using? Some have issues and even with the correct ingredients they refuse to combine into the new item. Also try altering the order that you put the items into the forge, again there are some bugs out there that unless you load the items in a specific order they won't combine.

I've sometimes run into issues with the Mystic forge in Crystal Oasis, the combines just didnt work, yet when I used the one in Lions Arch they did. If something doesnt work I usually end up using the Lions Arch forge.

  10. For those that might not be subscribed to the GW2 emails, it contained a little poem, which I'll add here. Happy Wintersday.

'Twas night for the Kryptis and all through Nayos,

Not a demon was stirring, not even Deimos!

The ward set up camp with the greatest of care,

In hopes that the wayfinder soon would be there.

We ran straight to the gate, tied up Heitor in knots,

And began to celebrate and count congealed clots!

Then we heard Peitha exclaim, as she strode out of sight,

"Happy Kryptis to all, and to all a good night!"

    Hello everyone.

So i started playing GW2 a few days ago. I'm really enjoying it so far, i have a question how long can it take to reach max level? I'm curious because some people have said that it can be done in 24 hours which is very impressive if this is true. But isn't 24 hours a bit short for a leveling journey?

I've just levelled a Human core Guardian to level 80 in just over 16 hours. Although I've got legendaries and a load of Ascended stuff stashed in the bank I like to level new characters without using any equipment other than the stuff they start with or drop along the way. At the present moment with the new player buff it has helped enormously.

I followed the Personal story when I could and just kept swapping out armour and weapons etc as I dropped them if they were better than the stuff I had. It took map completion across five maps doing events that I encountered on the way together with wiping out any enemy that stood in my way to get to level 80.

  12. Don't worry if you didnt find one in the abandoned nests in Skywatch Archipelago, the nests can also be found in Amnytas. It's completely random which nest you will get the egg from. Some people report finding them on the first nest in Skywatch, for others it takes until the last nest in Amnytas.

The following page will show you the locations of all the nests in both maps, keep working through them and you will get one.
