And thief in pve, Jesus. Talk about not fitting into a game mode. Specter was the only hope, which was also not great, and then it was gutted for no reason. For real?

Daredevil is one of the highest DPS builds in the game atm, and Deadeye is too but Deadeye as a spec is a HUUUUGE meme

And Specter still provides alac fine too, I know the changes are dumb but its not all doom and gloom, Thief is, and likely will contine to be, viable in PvE

It's dogwater in WvW zergs though, seriously, may be the worst zerg class in the whole game

  2. I honestly think Specter is still fine, it works well as a condi Alac plus some barrier

but I still cant believe the changes, I give my subgroup full Fury uptime with Siphon, why does one of the boons Well of Bounty gets to keep is fury and might too????/ Does Anet not realise that one of the skills makes steal give people fury? Like I dont even have full Concentration and I still give perma Fury and good might with Siphon.

And Shroud nerf in PvE is absurd, I get it in PvE, it can be annoying to use up all your burst skills then only realise its just one one of two HP bars, but in PvE's in unnecessary. It was the survivability aspect to Specter, like how DD's survivability comes from its dodge uptime and Deadeyes comes from rifle 4 and its great access to stealth, it makes no sense in PvE, it was good but it isn't the be all end all spec.

  3. Tested the new dodge in Verdant Brink and a little WvW, so a good amount of mobs ranging from squishy to semi tanky in PvE and Zergs in WvW, and overall I like the new dodge, it makes a already fun spec even funner but it's not without issues.

The biggest issue is that as a DPS, Vindicator still seems to suck, most I've seen people bench with a optimal setup on a golem is around 33k pre patch, my Vindi is eqiuped with open world gear so I can't really test for that DPS now but 33k for a spec that can't heal, give swiftness or alac is pretty pitiful, it'd be fine if Vindi could be kitted for more then just DPS but idk if that will happen even with the changes.

Working my way towards Cele gear, might try and bring a cele Heal VIndicator to Boneskinner or training KO and see how it fares when I do get it all, all I need is transmutation charges cause rn it looks fugly lol.

  4. Well it's cause I suck at overly complex class mechanics per se,  I don't like having complex rotations on top of having to think about encounter mechanics. And besides, everyone pro or not has a rotation until Minister Li Dragon Slashes you back to Tyria.
I main Thief mostly cause of the free flowing nature of initiative, and look for LI builds on other classes,  so I don't need to focus on stupid long rotations during a strike. I regularly get close to or peak DPS with condi DD.

But my god man, Untamed feels awkward, I wouldn't even call it bad, just awkward as hell, having to juggle  two sets of hammer skills, manage two sets of pet actions, knowing when to CC due to fervent force, and all that on top of having 7 bloody class skills.

Like I tried to simplify it a bit using the trait that increases damage instead of fervent force and still didn't get good results, am I doing something wrong or is untamed just meant to be kinda awkward too use? Like my god Ele is less awkward to use, even Weaver feels more fluid even though it's still over designed too hell and back, like my Tempest does more damage then my Weaver and is still very flexible if things go south.

  5. The chests are very good, yes, probably not the best but it's easy, plop on a few movement skills for when you get aggro, have your raptor at the ready and go nuts, once upon I got Dusk and I was instantly almost 400 gold richer!

It's just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tedious, I usually only do the berries once a day on my Daredevil for mobility,  I main Thief but even if I didn't I'd still do it cause my god, the amount of mobs is insane, I've seen goddamn groups of Griffons spawn RIGHT behind me as I'm harvesting berries

  6. I'm fine most of the time with effects, but some fights can be a real nightmare with lots of flashing, Boneskinner is the worst with how hard it can be too see the small AoE's that insta kill you. Dragonstorm also is a visual mess of AoE's, it's not difficult but holy hell it's insane.

What shocks me is for how long people have been requesting this for, over 10 years someone in this thread said, that's ridiculous, its such a basic feature that should be in any flashy MMO.  Hopefully they do add it.

It doesn't even have to be all effects, you can just chose from weapon skills, armour effects, decreasing the size of player pets, or all of those, similar to how its done in FF14, I can tell you having other players Jade Mechs half the size would help visual clutter a lot.

  7. No, am I not winning the fashion war. TL:DR is that Charr medium armour is way too baggy and filled with trench coats.

See, my issue is that I exclusively play Charr,*** I think they're a cool race that bridges the gap between a furry and a animal, as in, a biped and I quadruped.

But hoooooooooo-leeeeeeeeeee-shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit is Charr medium armour not great for a Thief, and Thief out of all the medium classes suffers the most. I have a ranger and he has a cool looking getup using the medium Ascanlonian chest, and I don't have a engi but I've seen Charr engi's thar make it work.

But for Thief? It doesn't work, and why it doesn't work is that Charr medium armour is loaded with tons of trench coats and extremely baggy chest pieces. There's no real good options for anything that's not baggy or robe-y, and considering there's a whole legion dedicated to spies, infiltrators, assassins, and other sneaky types, this really, really sucks for Charr.

Even ignoring Ash, it still makes it hard to make yourself look like a Thief/Assassin/Sneaky dude, you can make yourself LOOK like a Ranger as Charr, you can make yourself LOOK like a Engi as Charr, but Thief? It's so, so bloody hard to come up with something that makes people say, "he sure does look sneaky".

The closest thing that I may like is the True Assassin's Outfit, but it's a outfit so it's cheating and it's lazy, but holy crap, with how god awful the selection for poteinal good Thief getups is I'm real, real bloody tempted to buy it. Like look at the OG GW's Assassins Armours, it's stuff that's tailor made for a Thief, loaded with things like daggers, skin tight clothing, stuff that you'd use if you were sneaking about, y'know? Not none of those stupid overly baggy crap we have now.

    kittening glorious holy cow

This vid makes me wanna get a turtle just so I can do this to bot farmers, I wouldn't even have to break TOS by making moves kill them, I could just put them on a mountain!

  9. TL:DR:  A magically class would be best suited to Ash or Blood, being a mage wouldn't matter so much as long as the mage does a good job. Ash imo would be the best due already having been trained in things like infiltration and staying hidden, something a Ranger, or druid in this case, would take advantage of if they say, have to locate a enemy camp in a forest.

I really love this sorta soft RP stuff, not actual RP'ing but moreso keeping a theme with your characters, making a Thief clad in dark, clandestine armour, making a Warrior in heavy armour and, and making a Caster with something like the Wizards hat, and not something stupidly skimpy or woollily unrated to ones class. or in this posts case, what legion is best for each class.

Modern Flame Legion WOULD fit the best as they're more accepting of magic, but really, anything other then Iron would fit

See, magic isn't completely reviled by the Charr, Crecia is a Ele,. and one of the possible members of the players Warband is a Guard, Dinky, and another is a Ele, Euryale. Rytlock even comments on the player being a Ele in one of the HoT main story missions, and Rylock himself is a Rev who draws magic from the mists, least I think it's magic, I like to compare it to the Warp from Warhammer but not literally hell.

Dinky is said to get picked on for being a Guard, but its also said he was the smallest cub in the Fahrah and is kinda sorta dumb (his lines are great in the personal story though) so that could play a part in it. Also looked on the wiki and saw some of the recruitable members of the players Warband use magic.

Magic to the Charr is moreso suspicions, they're weary of it. But as we can see, if you don't F about, and prove yourself to be a valuable member of Charr society, it wont matter if you use magic or not, Crecia even gets a big promotion in IBS despite being a Ele.

Cause of this, either Ash or Blood would work, but for Druids case, I'm leaning towards Ash. Sure, a Druid might be able to help in a Blood Legion battle by healing allies, but since a Druid is still a ranger, they'd fit the more sneaky, clandestine approach of Ash, since a Ranger might be inclined to stay alone in the wild, learning the lay of the land, stalking prey from the treelines. A Druid just takes a more proactive approach by being the healer of the group.

Think if a Ash Warband is assigned to locate and take out a enemy camp in somewhere in the forest, foe can be whatever, if that Warband had a Ranger, esspec Druid who has a close bond to nature, that Warband might have a easier time locating the camp due to the ranger knowing the lay of the land,  if someones been in the area, signs of movement in the forest, it'd be a huge boon to the Warband. This would be only compounded by Ash training, the Ranger would already have some knowledge on how to stay behind enemy lines and stay hidden.

  10. Seems pretty insubstantial to me, and the shroud nerf is pointless, why the kitten are they reducing it in PvE too???????

Cause they think it makes Thief too survivable? Despite the classes low HP it's very survivable in PvE on any elite spec, DD has stupid good evade uptime, even better on condi DD, Deadeye has good stealth uptime and rifle 4 is a backwards no CD shadowstep, and specter has it's 2nd HP bar, it feels as if they're gutting the survival accept of Specter in PvE cause of how dominant it is in PvE.

Also, Deadeye is still the meme class the end all meme classes in PvE and WvW, rifle can work for tagging mobs with the Be Quick or Be Dead trait, but falls apart the more mobs there are, it's workable in places like Verdant Brink, Bjora, Dragonfall, but falls apart in places like the Aetherblade Assault meta and Drizzlewood. And I said it's just WORKABLE, it is still no match for the other Thief DPS spec DD due to DD's stupid good tagging abiity in open world and having one of the highest DPS specs in the game with condi DD, hell, condi specter even does good DPS, what what does Anet do? Nothing! Enjoy having a meme spec for another god knows how long.

The well of bounty changes seem a bit iffy to me too, Siphon already gives your party Might and Fury  if you spec too it, Vigor might help DD's and Vindicators,  but sooooo many classes can access Might and Fury, and Vindi has built in vigor and DD has no issue with dodge uptime. If you need a Specter to be the sole Fury and Might provider your group is doing something VERY wrong, it helps but it seems like it's too much, essepc when you already give Might and Fury. The other boons are also very mediocre, no extra  alac plus a little swift is gonna hurt.

All we got is more endurance uptime on a traitline that will still never be used outside of niche meme builds and a nerf to Specters survivability in PvE where the changes should, at most, have been PvP only.

The ONLY truly impactful thing we got out of this upcoming patch isn't even included in the bloody patch! It's Anet saying that sometime in the future Specter will have it's reduced imitative removed, and it's like kitten Anet! Really? "Hey bros heres this feature that everyone dislikes, we know everyone hates it but naaaaaaaaaaaaaah we aint gonna remove it now lmao xd" it's like crap dude Specter is good but it is not the be all end all spec, DD and even Deadeye do more DPS then it, despite Deadeye being a meme.

Overall the patch may be good, Ranger, Rev, and War got some good changes, and Mesmer players seem happy too, but Thief got left in the dust with the most minuscule, unimpactful and backwards changes out of possibly the whole patch.

  11. It's nice too see lots of people saying they play different modes, shows that, while some modes have flaws (PvP, WvW a little too) people still enjoy them.

Shows that there's a good chance criticism's on said modes come from a place of enjoyment rather then spite or bitterness.

As for myself, I'm all over the place, but lately it's been mostly WvW with a bit of open world PvE thrown in. Play strikes too, no CM's, been slacking on them lately though due to work but I've been meaning to start doing them regularly again.

I had pulled this for another thread but yeah, GoM is all over the place time wise. https://www.gw2matchup.com/matchup?id=1-3 That said not under all the time but to the OP, it might be the time zone. For the GoM forum goers, is GoM more PST time frame?

    "Always Outnumberd", timeframe doesn't matter.

Played in the morning, afternoon, evening, and dead of night, GoM is always, always outnumbered. This is from a EST perspective

I'm not trying to slander but It's frustrating having the majority of your team retreat every fight. I would really appreciate a fight focused community.

It's not that GoM doesn't want to fight, it's that GoM pop is pitiful compared to other servers

I'm GoM too, last night, we capped SMC for the first time since the beta ended, and just two hours later did we lose it to the same people who had it since reset, Eredon Terrance, aka red. The ONLY way we were able to cap it was cause a guild got on and formed a densely packed blob of 35, 40, of course they didn't have a tag though cause "join muh discord".

GoM has a pop that feels like a European server with how it compared to the servers it faces, we're always outnumbered, and we can never cap SMC, even during PEAK HOURS, and it sucks. I'm thinking of transferring,, we got matched with Maguuma a bit back and it was hellish, we were always outnumbered.

  14. Deadeye is, imo, the worst spec in the game.

It's a DPS spec that forces you to stay still and immobile to do the most damage while only having a dodge to avoid attacks, you COULD use standing Rifle 4, but then you'd lose damage cause you left your DPS "stance" and you're using imitative that could be used on damaging moves. While other classes have the option to walk out of a AOE or walk too a mechanic, Deadeye has to sacrifice damage, both in Imitative and in swapping stances, just to do what every other class in the game can do by default.

Compare this to Thief's other DPS spec, Daredevil. Condi Daredevil is very survivable thanks to it's 3 dodges, getting endurance on Steal, it's heal that restores endurance, Escapist's Fortitude providing INSANE amounts of sustain in a large group of PvE mob's and Dual Dagger 3 that's also an evade. All that on top of Condi DD being one of the potentially highest DPS spec's in the game.

Specter speaks for itself if you've ever played it, or played with one, it is a fantastic support spec, providing tons of barrier and Alac on well placement. You can also kit Specter to be a DPS and guess what? It also benches high! You also get two healthbars with specter, in case anything goes south, it's also part of your rotation too, so you'll get to use it anyway!

The only place I've seen Deadeye been used viably is in PvP due to it's crazy stealth uptime, but even there it's not the be all end all Thief spec, you can do great work with both Specter and Daredevil, I've did fantastic playing Shadow Art's Daredevil in PvP.

Let me conclude this by asking, what does Deadeye do better then the other Thief spec's?
    1. Most damage out of any Thief Elite spec*
    2. Crazy good stealth uptime**

*Even with that best DPS, it's only best by 1.5k according to Snowcrows, and even then it's beaten by Power Bladesworn and Condi Untamed, y'know, two classes with the ability to walk out of danger. And Condi Daredevil is not far behind and is INFINITLY more survivable in any gamemode minus maybe PvP. Got a mechanic you need to dodge? You got 3 charges AND Dual Dagger 3? Need to repostion without swapping weapons? Dagger 2 is cheap and spamable. Similar story with Specter, just replace dodging with a 2nd HP bar and Repositoning with Well's.

**What use is good stealth uptime in any mode besides PvP? Really? Most of the time in PvE you won't need to worry about stealth cause you'll have other ways to disengage or GTFO, and stealth isnt a core part in doing damage in PvE, and in PvP, the other specs can make use of Stealth too.

There's other minor things, 1500 range while kneeling, very good self boon application, but those two are memey as hell. 1500 range is only a minor benefit in PvE, and in WvW, where you might want to use that 1500 range to snipe people on walls, it makes it hard cause you're so immobile while having that range, not to mention Ranger longbow completely invalidates Deadeye's 1500 range. And Self boon uptime? If you're able to give yourself every boon in the game it won't matter if your group is already providing all the boons you need, or in open world PvE where Deadeye is so, so bad at tagging and cleaving multiple mobs.

TL:DR: Deadeye is clunky as hell to play and isn't even that good compared to the other Thief elite specs once you get start comparing them all.

  15. I doubt it, there might be a incentive to get more players, though I'm not sure if it'd be worth the cost for Anet however.

But I'd love console support as that'd mean proper controller support, right now all we have is uber jank using steam, I can tell this game would be wonderful with controller. FF14 manages and that game has whole hotbars full of skills to manage.

  16. Nothing

What are we to gain if the game suddenly got a M rating? More swearing, violence, and skimpy attire? A better written story?

I swear like a sailor, and I'll admit, it can add a certain impact to something if used sparingly, but you can say bad words in T games. Hell, in one of the flashback scenes in IBS, Almorra tells Bengar to kiss her furry kitten. Final Fantasy 15, also rated T has one of the characters say's sh!t later in the game. They could add swears if they want to, but they'd need to do it sparringly.

And violence for violence's sake is meaningless, there's no need for the game to be more gory, or bloody, I can't think of anytime where more gore and blood would be useful in story telling here. Also can't think of any skills where I think having them be more bloody would help, MAYBE having visible poison and bleeding from those two conditions but that's it.

And for more sexy/skimpy/explicity stuff, I want to let you know that FF14, rated T, is FAAAAAAAAAAAR more skimpy then GW2. So if Anet suddenly decided to add more skimpy attire, they very well could and still keep a T rating.

Those are the top 3 things I can think of, but honestly, what else could we hope to gain? More mature themes in the story? We already have that, I mentioned Bengar and Almorra, and in that same instance...

    Spoiler

...Bengar stabs Almorra in a cutscence, the camera is facing her back, and theres no blood, but you can sure as kitten tell he stabbed her.

There's plenty of other mature themes in GW2, the Slyvari's relationship with Mordremoth, the policical landscape of Elona (ignoring Joko being a comical as hell villian), the Charr civil war. you get my point.

Is everything I listed well written? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh, some is good, some is bad.

So having a M rating wouldn't improve the either story, I wouldn't be surprised if it just made it worse in fact.

  17. Honestly I'd be down for decreasing the requirements, I've seen the amount of things you need for a full set and it's crazy, 22 weeks is almost half a years time, and that's assuming you're playing optimally. Optimally meaning you no life WvW, and good luck with that if you have a job or literally can't cause there's not enough activity.

This would also have the added benifit of drawing more people into WvW, I know I'd be more inclined to play more WvW if the legendary armour wasn't so insane, I don't like PvP and I probably won't do raids ever, I've never been a raider in MMO's, always had  bad experience trying them thanks to people being nasty as hell.

And honestly, who'd complain if the minimum time went down to say, 6, 7, 8 weeks? People who already have the legendary armour and just wanna gatekeep?

  18. I think she's just weird as a character, so this is probably a innuendo, I'll post some of her quotes below from the wiki, I can confirm most of these as being real too:

During the attack on Leedfoot village (during the last set of camp assaults in South Drizzlewood)
"I love visitors. Can I offer you some bullets to the face?"

"Join Dominion and I'll only graze you. Promise! Just an itty-bitty flesh wound"

Malice: Surrender now, Steelshot. I won't ask again.

    Vishen: Oooh, empty threats? Kinky.

During the final assault on the bridge:

Commander: Look around! You're killing your own. You don't want this, I know you don't!

Vishen Steelshot: The great Pact Commander. Have we met? Don't care! Let me introduce you to my ammo.

(Male Charr VA for the line does a great delivery, I vividly remember it)

"Dear Diary: today I took down a few imperators and ate some dolyak. The dolyak was tough."

I think you get the point, there's other lines from her but I think we can all infer that she's a bit weird and maybe just a little bit pervy. So yes, that line is 100% a innuendo

Also if Reddit was a thing in Tyria (thank kitten its not) I'd be willing to bet quite a bit of gold that she uses it often.

  19. I haven't played Catalyst, and I probably never will, but I'm inclined to agree, it feels too "techy" I guess you could say. The whole "Master cutting-edge Canthan technology" in the text block for cata is a huge turn off, and I get GW2 is Science Fantasy as all hell, but c'mon, it's been established that Ele is THE Mage, THE Bread and Butter caster, lot's of other classes already mix Science and Magic, why couldn't we just have a Bow-mage instead? Something that, while unorthodox, could still work as a standard Mage.

Another reason why hammer gets to me specifically, Weaver was melee (and is so uselessly complex you might as well play Tempest, my Tempest gets more damage then my Weaver anyway), why did we get another melee spec for the Mage class? I can EASILY see a Bow Mage being a thing, hell we have the frost bow anyway.
