My biggest problem is THE LOOT. There is no loot. The only loot = super rare. So basically there is no loot. No matter what meta you do. Its wasting time. No skins nothing. Fishing is useless, no mini’s, no mount skins. In WoW you can fish up mounts. But this game is pure greed. They only want our money. ONE mount skin is already too much asked. They dont design mounts to put on fishing loot table. They only add mounts behind rng that you have to pay for. Bl chest keys. Gold or cash. This greed is crazy. Their earnings are high. But their team dont even think about design a skin for a loot table. The only loot are infusions that never drop. Its only a gold sink. And yes precursors but thats also a low droprate. The most come from the mystic forge.

Other than the expansions, nothing in game requires the need to spend money. You can earn gold to convert to gems to buy stuff in store or do achievements/tasks in game to obtain. In regards to loot, if anet allowed everyone to obtain high end loot it would loose it value and no longer be high end loot.

That is a very simplified (and thus partially inaccurate) summary.

Example: The complaints you mention on behalf of the Obsidian Armor are not about the effort and time investment but about the very dumbed down, monotonous way of acquisition. People would gladly put in all the effort if the task didn't bore them to death.

"Grind" in games can describe a lot of repetition, but also a sh*tload of work put into something. Nowhere, though, does the definition of grind state that the repetitive or otherwise demanding/exhausting tasks must be limited to only one.

It's does not necessarily mean various tasks either. Wiki even states "Grinding is a term used in video culture, referring to the act of repeating an action or set of actions, including non-repetitive tasks to achieve a desired result at a level of certain difficulty, typically for an extended period of time." Grind is repetition, whether that's via one event or several.

thing is, there is no reason, aside laziness ofc, it has to be as mindless. none of the grinds should be. regardless, gw2s open world is one of the most expansive and immersive out there in video games, not just mmorpgs, there is so much quality stuff to find and enjoy in every zone... yet a supposed "open world" legendary armor is literally obtained by doing a single activity in a handful of zones to your liking. its a shame.

Based on anet's past announcement on June 27th, crafting components for the legendary armour will be obtained in open world gameplay in Soto. Based on this information it makes sense that some materials required is restricted to Soto maps. This also isn't unusual as a lot of legendary items require materials from certain zones in order to craft.

In regards to it being a single activity, this is a bit more unusual in regards to obtain certain material but it's not much different in regards to event grinding in order to get items or materials needed.  Take dragon's stand for example, you obtains machetes by doing various events or by spending currency from different maps but ultimately you only have certain amount of chests you could plunder per meta. You'd have to repeat the meta several times to get the currency needed to craft the weapon you were trying to get.

the new ow one certainly is the most mind numbing kind of a grind, its like doing a default pof bounty about a thousand times. i cant see how someone might genuinely like the challenge be not of mastering games combat or your knowledge of games mechanics, but of literally just pumping dozens of hours into an activity like a drone.... tho i guess it does add to supposed "variety" .

I won't argue that its not mind numbing, most grinds are, think people just need to take this at a slower pace. I rushed Aurora and felt little to no satisfaction from it with how tiring it was. When I did vision I worked on it at a much relaxed pace and felt much better when I finished it. Wanting instant gratification or reward tends to be where people get impatient and start to ask for changes. Not a lot of content for legendaries are difficult and for those that are more challenging a lot of the community are willing to offer help if people ask for it.

That itself is not what is being questioned. It's the Rifts (instead of normal OW content) being the core grind that is the primary issue. An OW Legendary armor that is not being based around variety of OW content (and variety of choices how to proceed, like WvW players have for their armor), but around massive grinding a specific narrow content that is created solely for that purpose, and, as such, is something OW players would not otherwise do is against the very core of original idea.

Aren't most legendary items beyond g1 weapons require grinding specific content in order to obtain it?

  6. I understand the want and need to implement legendary armour into pve as alternative game mode but yeah the idea was that it would come with a greater material and time cost.  Though this attitude of wanting instant satisfaction/reward or not wanting to put the effort into what is required has also been present it seems to be more noticeable these days.

    new leg armor too.

the festival as buged last time, with very low value drop.

I believe the low value drop was due to the change to mf. The devs capped it at about 750 because with the envelopes the trophy items were the high valued items in terms of gd but the high mf would cause these items to never be dropped. This probably had knock on affect on of item drops across the game.

The best thing you can do with the essences after that point is to keep them and refine them into Exotic +200 Luck essences which have some use in crafting, as currency for various vendors as well as guild upgrade materials.

As far as I can remember lunar new year festival uses luck as currency so yeah save and spend it there.

I love how everyone conveniently forgot the simple fact that 2 out of 8 options for weeklies and jumping puzzles.

I guess the JPs account for 25% of the PVE content in this game huh?

I have a question: Do you have all expansions?

Reason I ask is that I only have the Tribulation Caverns JP as a weekly. I'm wondering if the lack of expansions reduces the variety of weeklies.

  10. I don't know why anet are changing existing content to the point they are no longer fun or relevant anymore. Each time they bring out new system/currency related to new content they nerf other aspects of the game that people have been enjoying for years and would still continue to do today if no to little changes were made. Events and systems were entertaining and fun due to some of the loot you received, now they just seem like a waste of time and effort.

I've lost track of how much I've seen this sort of post in every MMO I've ever played, often after expansions are released.  Wrath babies were a thing, am I right?  WoW didn't launch classic, because people were happy with Pandaria  Every game MMO I've played has evolved over time, lost some people and gained others. It's always been that way.  Cause it's hard to keep people playing a game for years, and no one really has the formula. WoW, who  at one point had 12.4 million subscribers, dropped to under 4 million before they stopped reporting. Seems to me that this is the nature of MMOs. Some people are unhappy and leave, because MMOs pretty much have to change, and other people come aboard, because of those changes. And some people, like me, stay throughout, because I know it will change and I play it all, and like a lot of it. I raid, I play WvW, I tried not to PvP, but everything else I do. Fractals, story, exploration, legendary crafting, jumping puzzles, raiding, teaching, running a guild, guild missions (still to this day), trading, crafting...I'm into everything, even on more than one account.

I can see why harder core players would be frustrated. But you guys have an idea of what you want, and Anet can't deliver it without affecting other things. Honestly the combination of Covid and an Amazon Game studio opening down the block probably hurt this game more than anything else.  But I think this new expansion is quite good and I think time will prove that this is the right track. You may not be on the train by the time the game gets to the next station, and we'll miss you guys, but that doesn't mean there isn't motion in a direction for the first time in a while.  Many people will leave, others will sign on, and I'll be here waiting to see where this train takes me.

Whatever happens, if this game isn't it, I hope you find the game of your dreams.

I actually enjoyed the new expansion myself, much more than EoD anyway.

I don't know what gw2 will bring in the future but some current and past changes within the game have affected my enjoyment of the game and I worry for the future of progression. I know these changes don't affect everyone but I can see it has affected certain groups of people. Of course games are always subject to change but I think that the rate of which these changes is what's deterring some of the playerbase.

I think that for me personally I miss aspects of the from the game that I first enjoyed (e.g class unique buffs). I won't argue that the game doesn't need to change and adapt to keep itself relevant but I'm not convinced all the changes thus far have been the best.

Even if I am to move on I wish the game the best of luck.

  12. Gw2 has always been known for this casual nature but I feel one of the main problem that has affected certain parts of the game is the change in attitudes towards them both by anet and the playerbase.

Before the was a clear definition between "easy" casual content and "more challenging" casual content, as in the casual aspect of the game was that you picked what content you wanted to do based on enjoyment, your personal skill level and drive. Like certain qol items in game were, and still aren't, required to play the game (legendaries being the most obvious example) and for those who wanted said items it was a case that more effort was required in order to obtain this reward. It was a long term goal to work towards.

Now it has been suggested and somewhat encouraged that everyone have access to this content, features or items for little to not effort which has enforced attitudes of entitlement and instant gratification. For some this is considered a good thing as aspects of the game that they wish to obtain from seeing other players who already have access to are now easier to reach. However this means that those who have worked on and enjoyed these aspects of the game no longer see it as challenging, fun or worth their efforts which is why such people then find themselves "burnt out" or trying to find a similar experience in other games. The more they cater to a certain group of the playerbase the more likely that the other group are gonna jump ship.

Its unclear in the long term how the current direction anet are taking the game is going to affect the playerbase but I have found that a lot of my friends and I disheartened by certain changes in the game so far.

Tldr: the game isn't what it used to be and some of those who enjoyed how gw2 was when they started playing are starting to feel the affects of the changes in the game's direction in the last few years.

  13. One of the things that stands out to me here is that the commander had to ask your role rather than you stating it when you joined. Understandable that there was only 1 person in squad at time of joining but you should still state you role. Also he did advertise for supports first so you should at least ask if it's ok to join as dps. Already this leaves an unsavoury impression of you.

Secondly the you doing less dps than supports thing. Ideally as a dps you do want to be doing more than the supports. Granted there are some supports that can do insane damage alongside grant support but being able to do your part as a dps to do enough damage so things go smoothly is expected. I don't know the set up of the squad you joined so it's hard to say if this was indeed the case but your attitude of "my dps is fine" suggests that either you don't care about your contribution or have possibly been carried through content before.

These points doesn't mean that the commander wasn't rude to you but I don't think you realise that your actions can be considered rude or/and griefing others.

  14. Sorry to hear this has affected your gameplay. Though it may be difficult you might have to change/adapt  your playstyle in order to continue to play the game but this sort of thing has been a constant issue for many players whenever they make  changes in game. Consider they did not add it to the list of current relics it's either that they don't plan to bring it back at all, it requires crafting with special materials and/or methods, or it will be added later on (maybe weeks, maybe months, maybe even years).

Your complaints and demands via the forums may not be fruitful in getting the companion back so my suggestion would be to look up builds and/or other classes that help with survival. I know this may not be ideal but it's better than struggling.

  15. There is already aurene, branded, fire and ice based skyscales (maybe more but I can't be bothered to look through all). Also tequatl is not a dragon boss, he is a dragon champion/minion. Though anet might consider having undead themed mounts. It's unlikely they will make exact copies of dragons as skyscale skins as they are all shaped differently to the skyscale model.

  16. These changes are part of the game and in the T&Cs so only two options is to adapt/get new build(s) or ultimately just not play anymore. Something may get changed/reverted depending on how it performs but that could be months or even years. It's not uncommon for builds to be ruined or destroyed with balance changes, its best to try not to get too upset and move along.

  17. I don't think the game is anymore toxic just that things are more "broadcasted" these days. Forums becoming more active with people complaining about aspects of the game for example. Some of these are legit complaints/suggestions but usually people kick off at any form of disagreement or when people point out flaws/why something won't work etc. People sometimes forget that forums are there for discussion so chances are there will be conflicting views but for whatever reason people get instantly defensive and insult one another.

It took 2007 - 2012 to develop full game with engine, event system,..

for story rework or overhaul they don't have to create everything again

Combat is there, event system is there, UI is there, server system is there already.

Yes but there's no denying that it takes time and money to make these things. Plus they said to add new races etc which would probably require more work as they have to get voice actors, create new story lines etc. Anet see more worth in creating new content rather than remaking old content. It took them a long time just to implement season 1 back into the game.

Do we have any genuine stats about what players want in terms of difficulty? I just know I enjoy the open world content, and I find it too easy in terms of difficulty and how easy it is to over-level even with difficulty scaling. Neither I want to constantly hunt for missions few levels higher so mobs don't die in groups whilst I press one button. I would just like have an option for those who like that idea, to switch my brain slightly more whilst in the open world.

Reason why leveling is fast and easy at first in this game is that the game doesn't really start to progress into the harder content until you hit level 80 and advance to other expansions. If you enjoy open world aspect then you are likely to enjoy that in the expansions as well. Your progression doesn't stop with just hitting level 80, there's masteries, new maps, events, metas etc to experience from there. You're currently experiencing the old school base game which in current times is just a taster/tutorial for new players. I get you might not be interested in other aspects of endgame content but doesn't mean that the aspects you currently enjoy aren't implemented beyond core.

Actually a core story rework would be awesome, it could be changed to add new races and race changes.

A complete overhaul i'd pay for if it meant the above was possible.

Considering it took 6 years to make gw2 and is said to have cost millions of $ you sure about that? (I can't find an confirmed figure)

  21. Map zones aren't restricted to your level, even if you are underleveled for that zone. You only get capped if you are above said map level. Also core open world is dated due to power scaling from elites, balance changes, new gear stats etc.  The more challenging content does come from the expansions as it takes these aspects into account amoung other things such as new combat mechanics etc (which since in game progress is directed by story most players would do core then naturally move onto more challenging and new content as they go). There are ways to challenge yourself but you then seem very reluctant to these suggestions.

For what you want it would be down to anet to determine if its worth the time and resources which would seem unlikely to be the case 🤷‍♂️

  22. Also have to consider how many people would be willing to take on this role. I have seen mentor tags advertise on map chat to whisper them to ask questions etc but this is rarely seen. And mentor tags have proven to be useful as "becons" for events, jumping puzzles etc. To actually mentor someone takes a lot of time and effort which most of the player base either want to do or can't. Guilds, forums, guides and even people in map chat have proven to be best source of help in the game it's mostly about knowing where to find information/ask that can be an issue.

  23. I'm all for there being an "easy option" to getting the skyscale, especially if the new expansion makes it nessary to have one. The only thing that concerns me is if the skyscale feels like its being giving free off the bat. Like I want something to work towards, I want the sense of achievement regardless of how small. A lot of aspects of the game resolve around the idea of working towards something, the greater the prize the more work (makes sense right?). I keep seeing people who moan about having to do x in order to achieve y, basically entitlement and wanting instant gratification. I found skyscale collection to be tiring and confusing a lot of the time, but I wanted that skyscale so I worked for it. I do feel sorry for those who feel like their work has been for nothing with the new eaiser method to obtain skyscale, I don't agree with saying their feelings are invalid, I hope anet have come up with a good way of easing the blow to these people as much as they have catered to the people who didn't want to do the original collection but wanted skyscale.
