  1. As of today, Sylvanheart is officially 10 years old! While there's a thousand, thousand things that could be said - someone at some point in my life stressed to keep things short when you really mean them, and that's exactly what I'll aim to do here. Thank you - to all of our past and present membership - for all your creativity and heartfelt investment in our shared stories. We wouldn't be here without you. Thank you for coming along on this group's wild journey and making time for all of our adventures - and here's to many more! 🌹
  2. With Mad King's Day fast approaching, it's time for another update! Sylvanheart's current campaign is progressing smoothly, with many a tough choices, and heartfelt moments between our characters... and many more ahead. Hopefully they'll get a chance to relax with some Candy Corn and Trick or Treat before matters inevitably take another turn. We've also seen a massive uptick in RP outside of scheduled events! If any of that sounds interesting to you, take a look at our carrd!
  3. Truthfully, it really depends on what story you would prefer to tell - that of a Warden or that of a Sunspear, and which lore speaks to you more/you would have more fun exploring. Gear and weapons are nice to have, but they're usually a secondary concern. That said, in my experience, a lot of RPers tend to have multiple characters that they actively roleplay, so you could also simply play both! On a separate note, a lot of roleplay takes place in and around Central Tyria, so a Sunspear would probably need a reason for why they're not in Elona but hanging out in, e.g., Divinity's Reach at a bar.
  4. Short answer: Yeah! Go ahead and join'em! Longer answer: A lot of the Discord links you'll find (at least, over here) are all links to various bigger communities whose goal is to help connect RPers and find what they're looking for. Meaning that new people joining does not only happen all the time, it's kind of the goal and what people hope to have happen! No one's going to think of you or anyone else as entitled. Most of those servers have their invite link listed somewhere for anyone to pick up and throw out there anyway, so I think that can be safely considered a open-to-all kind of invitation.
  5. Same strokes as the above: we're still active and our recruitment is open! Our carrd has also seen another very fancy update. Furthermore, it should be noted: Unless there's an announcement that we've officially closed our doors, you can trust Sylvanheart to be active and around! 🌿
  6. The short answer is that you avoid negative or disruptive behaviour if you roleplay in a squad, a guild hall or other instances - be that people spamming attacks, jumping up and down in their underwear, or wilfully clogging up the log on spamming /dance or making remarks in /say that have nothing to do with the scene or situation at hand.. or, you know, commenting in map chat about how cringe those roleplay people are. It also allows for a feeling of safety and consent if you know who is reading your RP, that everyone is on board, and that they're okay with it; sometimes, scenes involve heavier topics (e.g., loss of a loved one), and you wouldn't want someone to just stumble upon that accidentally. It's also noteworthy that the Megaservers have made it incredibly difficult to end up in the right shard - which is why places like [EU] Wandering Roleplayers Discord Server (This is the invite link!) and tools such as WARP exist. They're both worth checking out! That said, I'm afraid I can't really comment on what else you've mentioned - to me, it sounds like those are specific problems cropping up in very specific spaces. The RPers I know are always more than happy to share what their characters are up to and update others on it, have public roleplay forums that are available to everyone who's part of the group and serve more as means to include others than to exclude them (some people don't have the time to log in, but still want to RP) and are always happy to meet and roleplay with new people. I'm sorry it sounds like your experiences have been so negative, though.
  7. As far as I'm aware, this Discord server isn't maintained by the same team that's running GW2RP. Consequently, I'm not so sure it's correct to say this is the GW2RP Discord server since the team/staff behind it are not the same people. The server linked in the quote was originally advertised in this thread (removed the link due to the forum being defunct) , for reference's sake. In regards to the overall topic, what I think will definitely help the GW2RP team in making a decision is seeing people actively engage with the topic and offer their thoughts on what they'd like to see. If no one responds, it's easy to think that people have just stopped caring - which they definitely haven't - so I strongly encourage discussion in the GW2RP thread on the topic (same as above!).
  8. Hey there! Posting here to say we're still around, still fighting the good fight, still consuming all the candy corn we possibly could while we can. Oh, and our carrd has also been updated to be even more stylish than ever before. 😎
  9. Hey there! As far as external resources are concerned, you should check out Gw2 RP. That's basically where people gather! While it's become somewhat NA-centric with most of EU having moved to Discord server(s), that shouldn't be taken as indicative of how active the EU scene is. With a number of weekly public events, there's certainly RP going on! There's also WARP. I've never used it myself, so that's all I know. Unfortunately, the site is gone now, so editing this response in accordance with that. Whether you should go for NA or EU mostly depends on your timezone, I would say. Most NA RP starts picking up at 3:30am-5:00am in Central European Time, going on 'til the wee hours of the morning, which is obviously a problem if you have to get up at 7am to get ready for your job. In my anecdotal experience, however, your best bet for a steady stream of RP would be joining a guild regardless of which region you end up going for. Furthermore, due to the change to Megaservers between the game's launch and now (great for the game, less great for finding RP) Both NA and EU have general 'Hey, I'm a RPer!' guilds that are supposed to help with finding other people regardless of shards. If you don't intend to join a guild with a specific identity or calling and are looking more for walk up RP, those are your definitely your best bet! Hope that helps!
  10. I apologise for the trouble! Back when I linked those sites, they were still working, but that seems to have changed in the meantime. https://discordapp.com/invite/9yDqwuE would be the direct invite link to the Wandering Roleplayers' Discord!
  11. Hey there! Rest assured, RP is definitely still a thing and happening. Aside from the connections subforum here on the Gw2 forums, another good place to check is this Roleplay Forum (removed the link as the site is now defunct) . As you're on EU, you might find the Wandering Roleplayers (this is an invite link to their Discord!) initiative especially helpful! While you'll find more information in their post, as well as an invite link to their Discord, the tl;dr is that it's a server and guild where a lot of EU folks advertise their monthly and weekly events, and also reach out for more impromptu RP. Hopefully that helps!
  12. Sylvanheart Region: EU Themes: Family, Adventure Recruitment: Open! ___________________________________________ To you at a crossroads, uncertain and lost; To you who've erred and wronged, stumbled or fallen; To you standing upon a beach, scattering unborn dreams unto the waves; To you in the lonesome study, staring a forlorn gaze into the free night outside your window; I will be the passing breeze upon your back, offering you the courage you need. I will be the strongest star upon the sky, guiding you through the night. I will be the song of the sea, carrying your heavy heart with you. I am the reminder that it is never too late to act, to find where you belong. Come war or fire, dance or song, as a family we will stand strong forever long. ____________________________________ Sylvanheart is Gw2 roleplaying guild of 10 years and counting, home to the European Megaserver. Our central themes include that of adventure and family with a focus on Tyria's fledgling people: The Sylvari. However, despite the aforementioned focus, Sylvanheart accepts members of all species and engages with storylines relevant to all of Tyria's peoples and histories! The guild likewise consists out of a variety of characters with a wide range of personalities, all unified by the same cause: to protect their loved ones and to fight for a better Tyria. As a plot and story driven guild, Sylvanheart holds guild-wide arcs/campaigns as well as smaller event chains with a focus on a variety of story threads and plots - ranging from the serious to the light-hearted! Our campaigns thrive on character choice. Not only are there numerous opportunities to get involved for characters of all walks of life, but the membership changing a campaign's entire course or even the Kindred's overall storyline is very real. Contributions from our members are not only welcome, but also quite frequent! Curious to learn more about the guild and what we do? Then check out our carrd over here!
  13. I would like to firmly dispel the notion that there's no more RP on the EU side or that everyone moved to NA. Public events are still happening on a weekly or monthly basis, there's still guilds with an RP focus around, etc. We're currently in the usual summer/post-summer lull where a lot of people are coming back from vacation or preparing to go back to their respective real-life obligations. Long story short: RP is around and about, you just have to do a little bit of searching online to find it. More on topic, more decorations are always welcome and have the benefit of being liked by basically every group. There's a lot of little items floating around in the game such as plates with food (e.g., those Elonian dishes we see in Amnoon...) or those giant, pink trees in the Vehtendi Academy - to name just a few that I would love to be able to scribe or buy from a vendor. Please, I would love to have those trees. Personally speaking, I also like the idea of just having a RP channel as previously described. Especially for RP outside of guilds that could be pretty useful for those who like more walk-up styled Roleplay.
  14. Happy to see you giving RPing a try again! It's certainly a lovely hobby. Even if this isn't reflective of all public events and all groups, I've personally noticed RPers moving away from using /s and /me channels outside of instances (such as Guild Halls) to avoid the type of reactions you've mentioned. It seems using party or squads, depending on group size, is the preferable method these days. While it does close your scene off from outsiders or people who would like to 'walk up' if they're not part of your guild or otherwise aware that there's an event being hosted, it does significantly decrease the possibiliy of the above happening - and maybe knowing this would help you feel more comfortable RPing, too! However, I still think the above would make a little 'RPer' tag/toggle type of deal all the more useful. Like that, someone who isn't in the squad or party could still see that the 10+ folks standing in a circle are, in fact, not just standing around admiring the scenery.
  15. With the Festival of the Four Winds back in town, one Solitary Sylvari in particular has been gaining some due attention again because of his really intriguing dialogue. Me and my guild have been really curious about him and what he means since he first appeared! And so we were wondering: Was he part of the Mordrem Guard 'proper' and underwent the according physical changes, or was he one of the Sylvari who responded to Mordremoth's Call, yet managed to fight back before fully losing himself to Mordremoth? That said - Thank you so much for all your hard work! I truly can't stress that enough.
