Weapon Master seems like a really poorly thought out idea by someone playing 1-2 classes, probably a Guardian player, spending 5 seconds thinking “wouldn’t it be cool if your Firebrand starts raining arrows or zipping around on dual swords?” while not considering in a vacuum how the balance of other classes work.

The Pistol Scourge fiasco was hilarious for the short time it lasted. Scourge was absolutely not designed with a Torment weapon in mind, but it was gutted anyway due to a stupid idea and I’m pretty sure condi Scourge now can’t live without Pistol. Something similar happened to Ele but on a grander scale. Ele spec weapons are absolutely not designed with each other in mind. That’s why Warhorn, an overpowered weapon balanced only by its limited access, now renders every other off-hand choices obsolete. Also Tempest destroyed Hanmer and now Catalyst can’t even use its own weapon. Other similar cases could be Herald ruining Greatsword for Vindicator.

Yet after much balance shuffling the numbers around, most especs went back to still using their own weapon/ old build anyway and nothing new really happened, unless their old weapon was nerfed like cases above and there’s nothing for them to go back to. Overall on average Weapon Master did a lot more damage to the game’s balance than the good it brought, if there was anything good at all. So in terms of “impact”, it was a flat negative.

Hits the nail on the head here regarding Weapon Master.

Can someone clarify something for me?  Maybe I don't understand.

There is only one relic slot. So you'll only need one.
If I craft a legendary rune now (before the release of the legendary relic), I will automatically receive the one legendary relic I need.

    Is the above assumption correct?

    Looks like it.

but everyone else noticing same thing so price of charms is skyrocketing!

Quickness Herald was doing 40k+ while providing permanent uptime on all important boons including defensive boons.  It was way too good.

Ideally they would have compensated with buffs to underperforming dps like vindicator…. But alas.

looks like they did buff vindicator, or tried to:

    • Leviathan Strength: Increased damage bonus from 10% to 15% in PvE only.
    • Forerunner of Death: Increased damage bonus from 15% to 25% in PvE only.

still waiting for ARCdps to get fixed to see if overall ended up being a buff or a nerf with the GS damage nerfs though...

VERY!! Cheers for that! And yea, things do tend to take a fair bit to die, I mean i dont die, but reckon I wouldnt anyways.  😉

Sadly was looking for another bursty power build other than SB or Bladesworn and was told Vindi was the ticket...time to re think I it perhaps.

Wait until after nerfs in about 6 hours... whole PvE balance is about to change later today and Anet didnt give us a preview.

Anet, why are you balancing 1200+ range options to have the same DPS as melee options?

It's painfully obvious that there will ALWAYS be an issue with scourge/virt/etc. when they can just do constant DPS from anywhere, while melee has to stop and run around for mechanics. Can we please remind ANET that range is a big advantage which should come with a trade-off? They seem to have forgotten that.

try playing virtuoso in actual content at 1200 range and getting anywhere near the golem numbers.

You dont get boons from the rest of the party at 1200 range, meaning your going to do either do a fraction of the DPS, or your going to have to play mele to get boons to get anywhere near the golem numbers.  Also c.virt doesnt have much (any) utility outside of ranged damage and cant self buff (even might stacks).  DPS is literally the ONLY thing the class has.

Scourge is 900 range, not 1200.  Though with its insane best-in-game AOE and easy rotation ... okay yeah, scourge needs a bit of a nerf.

I just hope they dont nuke harbinger into oblivion with a straight pistol nerf later today.  Harbinger having a much more complex rotation, resource management, and has to be played in mele range for shroud 3+4 to achieve its DPS numbers which are already a solid 6k under scourge vs the golem.

Sounds understandable. Thanks for the heads up!

    Predictions:

    - Ranger 1h Sword #2 and #3 Nerfs.

    - Elementalist Warhorn Nerfs

    - Rev GS Nerfs (though I would lament this one...)

    - Pistol Scourge Nerfs

I also predict that the way some weapon damage will be controlled is by tying a damage modifier to their respective elite specs.

All that I ask is that if we're about to face a bunch of nerfs, that we get some fun new toys as a tradeoff. There are a lot of elite spec weapons that don't work well outside their original elite spec, and it would be fun to see new synergies. (Eg. Berserker's Torch having some kind of role on Spellbreaker and Bladesworn.)

"I also predict that the way some weapon damage will be controlled is by tying a damage modifier to their respective elite specs."

This would be a reasonable and good way to do it so they dont nuke the specs that arnt over performing and dont need a nerf right now.

Will relics that launch cover all the special effect from each 6-rune set?

    • Not all existing 6-slot rune bonuses will be available as relics at launch. We will continue adding additional core relics over time as part of our ongoing commitment to improving our core game features.

Depending on which get excluded, that could be a problem... especially for builds and classes that rely on a certain 6 peice set bonus to function properly... Hopefully they will include the majorly played / META ones at a minimum...

I am extremely disappointed with it, they should just have added the ears as headpiece and tail as backpiece so you can customize it as you want and make it cuter. Now you're forced to use the lame clothes with it.. yikes.

Maybe they add that later?  They did with shrine guardian ears...

At is peak it was , then they nerfed the damage from the mech and it was 28k , and i would like to see those videos of other spec just spamming autos doing 28k (just autos ...).

Just saying that it was played at a 33% rate for a good reason , a lot of ppl couldn't focus on mechanics and doing a rotation at the same time , but that was an abberation , all my pugs groups and static where full of mechs at that time .

That was with autocast rifle and mech skils.

Just auto attack on rifle (literally could walk AFK to go get a sandwich and put out over 25k dps)

I've spent quite a lot of time with Vindicator now, as they've stripped back what made it stand out more and more, and gotta say I preferred the 1 dodge version from a roaming standpoint. Being able to give yourself meaningful length buffs made the class feel really tanky, and I didn't feel like the 1 dodge was hindering me at all. Now we dodge for a couple of frames of buffs, and a sneeze of vigor, it's really soured my opinion on the class.

I hope there's some internal discussion that's looking at getting Vindicator towards a better feeling place, or at least thinking about reverting the changes now. Went from my favourite class to something I have to kind of force myself to play right now, and almost always ends in frustration.

1 dodge made it unplayable in WvW groups and basically all PvE content

If anet isnt going to balance the new EoD elite specs to be in line with the rest of the specs, they shouldn't be allowed in PvP or WvW. its an unfair game and they have done this on purpose to make people all but have to buy EoD or be at a massive disadvantage which is just plan WRONG. Im sick of this game being ruined by the terrible balance and favoritism of the devs.

Err, which EoD classes are meta in WvW zerg play at the moment?

Cause last I checked: healer vindicator was somewhat PLAYABLE (not really meta even) and that was about the sum total of what EoD has even brought to WvW at this point.  (everything else from EoD being subpar or unplayable in most cases).

the combat is still pullable, but became grossly less enjoyable since literally every other "balance" patch that we got since the start at feb20's dmg coefficient demolition ...

This pretty much sums it up.

I play in a big big WvW guild. Since the devs started “rebalancing” and nerfing… people have stopped playing. Voices in discord gone. Friends lost.

Devs… when your vision for WvW = people quitting you need to ask yourself why?

If you want to take you have to give something back in return.

Very specific example = multiple Scourges just gone for us. They no longer log in at all.

As a former DPSer myself whos also quit WvW: basically successive nerfs have had an impact on the enjoyment of the game, really game mode from a DPS standpoint has been going down-hill ever since the whole "paradigm shift" patch a couple of years ago.

Following that up with ongoing and successive nerfs to ranged DPS hasnt helped.

Pre paradigm shift: multiple DPS classes (scourge and herald particularly) felt rewarding to play.

    More specifically:

Herald felt like it rewarded solo skill in positioning: if you were able to get to a point on the flank and free cast on the enemy blob, you generated a ton of downs.

Scourge, while always more of a zerg class, was also rewarding to play in terms of damage and downs generated.

Now a days it feels like casting skills is more like firing blanks at the enemy since the whole massive increase in TTK, successive nerfs to DPS across the board, etc.  You either coordinate a spike with everyone else, or your basically doing nothing with your casts.

How your group performs is no longer dependent at all on the skill of individual DPSers, but seems almost entirely dependent on your support classes (guards, etc), DPS is now definitely in a secondary role of importance.  And individual play as a DPSer beyond being able to coordinate a spike when the commander calls for it, has almost no effect on the outcome of a fight (certainly not like it used to).

At some point, the environment just becomes unfun and unrewarding for DPSers to play in, and they quit logging in to WvW.

In WVW unless you play firebrand you would need to adapt. Many revs were quitting after CoR was changed despite it being a common class through every meta.

Reason all the revs quit WvW after nerfs was more a function of the whole "paradigm shift" thing, post the big DPS nerf patchs: DPS just overall feels weak in WvW.  Like pre DPS nerf -> it was rewarding to be an individual good DPSers who could get open and "free cast" on the enemy zerg (if they didnt shut you down, you could generate a ton of downs solo), a few good DPSers could change the outcome of a fight single-handedly.

Post paradigm shift has ment focus has been almost exclusively on support, support, and more support.

If your group has good quality support play, you win fights, if your group doesnt have good support, you dont.  DPS became much lower and slower.  Individual positioning no longer rewarded, etc.

Overall just felt much less rewarding to play DPS (of any class) in WvW post nerfs.

Okay, Anet tuned up the EoD specs to overperform, so lot of people buy the expansion, is understandable.

But I wanna ask, according to past expansions, how long will have to wait to have a real balance between all the specs?

I remember when mirage was broken, a year later was nerfed, the same with oneshot deadeye... Do veteran players recall the usual period of time when anet let the cool kids abuse their broken toys till the party is over?

I's sad when you enjoy playing a core spec, or Hot,Pof, yo want to stay loyal to your playstyle and not play X because is meta... and you're constantly bullied by the new cheesy builds , ahem Harbginger.

Even more sad is when you know you have no chance, you're playing part of a unfair battle and you know it, your oponent knows it, it sucks. For this reason I avoid PVP since EoD was released.

Funny, WvW having the exact opposite problem.  EoD has been essentially useless in terms of meta specs thanks to everything being a "physical projectile".

So what? Not being able to mindlessly spam projectiles for a few seconds, such horror ...There are projectile spammers everywhere and they can be very oppressive without projectile denial. Players shouldn't always get away with their mindless spam. If projectiles were as bad as people claim, WvW wouldn't be full of projectile builds. That being said, uptime on certain projectile denial skills could certainly be adjusted. But limiting the amount of projectiles should never be the "solution". It disproportionally favours certain builds (multi hit, fast attack speed) as well as superior numbers, that already have the innate benefit of having more players and certainly don't need any more advantages.

Its not just a single tempest either... projectile hate is so rampant and easy that most classes have 1 skill standard in their builds... and it only takes 1 or 2 of these up at a time to completely nullify projectiles being used against an entire zerg.

theres enough projectile hate at the moment that any and all projectile builds are essentially dead in WvW zerg play.

In fact if i recall, they even used this sad fact to nerf one skill out of existence in wvw in the past (made epidemic a projectile skill at some point).

In fact, kinda feels like the 300 sec cooldown place holders in a way, saying "we are too lazy to actually try and balance something in WvW so we will just make it completely unusable and worthless by making it a 'projectile'"

Can you not nerf Specters shroud so much? I understand pvp/wvw. But PvE from 1.5 to 0.69? That's way too much, especially condi dps specter will be fallin off shroud way too often.

Agree they need a game mode split in the skill here.
