  1. I've seen active discussions get killed by merging.  I think it would be better to let a discussion run it's course, then merge it.  The only drawback to that is that it gives time for the thread to accumulate trolling, bickering and sabotaging.  But that's a whole other issue.

It's unfortunate how easy it is for someone to sabotage a discussion.  I wish action would be taken against the individuals rather than the thread.

Gotta be coin since you can't sell clovers.

Depends on how much they were sold for. and how many they kept.  I sold a bunch when the price was a lot higher than it is now and I have no regrets.  I still have a bunch.  I've never used them to gamble clovers in the mystic toilet.

I never said you've said there aren't freebies in the game. The focus here was rather on the fact that despite them already being in the game in various forms, people still ask for more and will ask for more regardless of what they get.

If that's you point then I'm really confused as to how your reply relates to my post.  I'm clearly not asking for freebies or supporting the posts that are asking for freebies.  It seems that you are actually trying to disagree with me on what counts as a freebie.  You specifically referenced key farming and what I said about it.  I think we both agree that there are plenty of freebies.  We can disagree on whether or not certain things count as freebies.  That's OK.

I just added the third confused emoji to your post where you first quoted me and I actually mean confused by it.

So 20 minutes ingame for a BL key/week doesn't count, ok. Then what about previously mentioned gold -> gem exchange, gems from achievement point rewards or the BL item available as a log-in reward? No matter how you look at it and whatever limitation we'll try to use here, there are already "free options" and apparently it's just about getting more anyways. Pretty much what some people already pointed out in this thread:

    https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/107919-what-if-every-month-there-was-a-different-free-item-on-the-black-lion-shop/?tab=comments#comment-1565355

I think you're reading something into my post that isn't there.  I never said there aren't fee options.  I think there are plenty of free options in the game.  Just to clarify, all I'm saying in that part of my post is that I don't consider items or gold you earn by playing the game to be free.  I think most people would agree with that.  I do consider the daily login rewards to be free.

For the record I agree with the two posts you linked.  I'm not sure about the part where Danikat says people forget about the daily login rewards.  I don't specifically disagree with it, I'm just now sure about it.  I don't forget about them.  Seems like it would be hard to forget, that little floaty chest is pretty attention grabbing.  Also, if you do completely ignore them they will start auto-opening and going into your bags.

How about a little more on where you're coming from?  If you say that 20 minutes for the BL key is free then where would you draw the line?  What if it were 40 minutes?  Or 2 hours?  What if that 20 minutes is part of a 10 hour routine.  Would you say everything earned during that 10 hours is free?  Do you consider it to be free because it's "playing" rather than "working?".

Feel free to elaborate on that or not.  I'm sure we could go nuts on an endless discussion arguing semantics on free vs earned and all the related variables and tangents.  Bottom line is I never said there aren't freebies in the game.

  5. If they were to do this I would expect it would be similar to the Chest of Black Lion Goods we get free for daily login every 7 days at best, maybe less.  For something like that outside of the daily rewards it might even be a subset of that where the better items are not part of it.  I don't see how it would make sense for them to give away more valuable items on a monthly basis for nothing.

The idea that them giving away gem store items would increase prices on the gem store doesn't make sense.  If that were true then why haven't the items in the Chest of Black Lion Goods increased in price.  Why have prices for items like Instant Repair Cannister and Revive Orbs stayed steady while they give them away all the time.  They even sometimes give away Black Lion Keys but that doesn't cause the price of them to increase.  They give away wardrobe unlocks with birthday rewards but it doesn't cause the price of cosmetics to increase.  Even if they are giving away higher value items occasionally, increasing the price of those items would hurt sales more than the occasional giveaways would.  If they start giving those things away so often that it affects sales (which wouldn't happen anyway) then increasing prices would hurt sales even more.

If you consider the Black Lion Key you get from weekly key farming to be free then wouldn't everything you get from playing the game technically be free?  By that logic every item and any gold you earn by playing the game is free.  By that logic your paycheck is free money.

I don't see the idea of gems dropping in game working.  The actual affect will be different for each person.  I think most likely it either wouldn't be enough to matter or it would affect gem sales for $$.

To answer the "what if" question, I think it would be nowhere near what OP is hoping for.  We'd all just have a little more Bank Access Express and Merchant Express and Trading Post Express and Revive Orbs and Instant Repair Canisters.

  6. I was looking at crafting Gift of Aurene.  It looks like the five crafting recipes are something you use once and never again.  Is that correct or am I missing something?  I'm just debating if I want to buy the recipes or just buy the crafted items from the TP.  It will definitely cost more to craft them myself.  Obviously you can craft the items and sell them but at this point the profit margin is marginal at best and potentially a loss for most of the them.  I'm sure when this was first added to the game they were nicely profitable.  The recipes don't seem like something that is likely to ever be used for something else.  Of course, there's no way to know for sure.

I'm not in any huge hurry to get this done so I thought see what other people's thoughts are on it.

  7. I'd like to see option C happen.  I don't think there's any chance option B will ever happen.  If they did option C then you don't need option A.  I think this a reasonable request but it's a bit of a stretch to think we're entitled to it.

If the boost and the slot are locked then it's because Anet decided to lock them.  I sort of get why they might do that.  It would be nice if we could move them out.  It's not a 1 to 1 lock.  If you have multiple boosters they stack in one slot and the others are open.

I have gotten three total.  I had all but one toon already at 80 before these came out.  I used one on that last toon.  Now I have 2 locked in shared slots.  I have a key farmer and a mule that are not 80.  For me it seems a waste to use it on either of those chars.  For me for now my choice is to leave them until I decide I have a use for them or I can take them out of shared inventory.  I'm fine with that if nothing changes.  I'll just keep them until I have a use for them or a compelling reason to "waste" them.  It just would be really nice if I could move them out and free up that one shared slot.

  8. I prefer the idea of having a set of account-based gathering tool slots.  They would be above or below the current slots or something like that.  You could switch between the char-based and account-based sets similar to how you switch between the two weapon sets on most chars.

    1) they would work just like the current gathering tool slots but they would be accessible by any char on the account
    2) you can put any gathering tools in the slots - basic, unlimited, karma, etc
    3) you can switch between account and char sets (as long as the char meets any level requirements of the tools)
    4) any char can put any tools in or take any tools out

This would be useful even for players who don't have unlimited tools.  They could put a spare set in the shared slots.  Players with multiple unlimited sets could switch between two different sets on any given char.

  9. Whether or not they reply means nothing.  They only need to reply to a GM and they know it.  There's no way to know if they aren't paying enough attention to the game to respond or if they are actively ignoring anyone who's not a GM.

How to set a skill to auto cast is public knowledge so any notion that OP is trying to set up auto farming based on that is just absurd.

Seems to me that auto casting an AOE skill is a key tell that someone is auto farming.  There's no way it makes sense to auto cast an AOE skill unless they are not actively playing the game.

Yep, this pretty much sums it up.

No idea why there is a daily thread about afk farming.

Farming with your pet/minion is cool as long as you are not AFK.

If you respond to a GM everything is cool anyways.

Most people are erroneously using the term "AFK farming."  I believe what they are seeing is people using in-game mechanics to set up characters to farm autonomously.  Many posters incorrectly assume that translate to the player being AFK.  Then people latch on to the AFK part to defend it.  Automated farming is against the rules.  AFK or not is irrelevant.

Farming with pet/minions/turrets is OK as long as the player is actively playing.  If a player is using those to automate farming that is against the rules.

Responding to GM is just how auto farmers avoid getting caught. It's a lot like using a radar detector to know when to slow down to avoid getting caught speeding.  It doesn't prove the player isn't breaking the rules, just that they know how to avoid getting caught.

I absolutely care to answer your questions at any time.

So what about you go and find for all of us the official rules for "active playing", to have a nice framework to discuss this topic.

For the last part of the question, why do you assume because i know how idle and auto kicking works, that i am affected by it?

This is like accusing a random person of being a thief just because this person is aware of property laws

Then why does it seem like you are avoiding answering all my questions.  Why mention idle and auto kicking if it isn't relevant?

I autocast Scepter but you kinda missed the Standing Farming development over the last 5 years or so.

That doesn't answer the question.  "Scepter" is not a skill.  Which scepter skill do you autocast?

    Quote

I or you don't have to have an opinion about this topic since A-Net released a statement

that directly said Autocasting skills while standing around is totally cool with them.

It's OK if you are actively playing the game.  It's not OK if you are not actively playing the game.  Why do you keep avoiding that concept?  The rules say "The use of auto-casting abilities to farm while not at your computer or not actively playing the game."

    Quote

Beside that it is also irrelevant what you think AFk or unattended gameplay is, since this is also in the rules directly written and named Policy: Unattended Gameplay.

I never said AFK and my only use of the term "unattended" was in referencing and quoting Anet policy.  The only term I've been using is "automated farming."  Why are you avoiding that?  Do you think what you are doing is automated farming or not?  Please address the automated farming part.

I guess you have mistaken me with someone else, i don't even play GS on my reaper, i play scepter and this is on auto attack

My enter key is for the Bone Minions if that helps you somehow.

So would you be so kind explaining me how this is against the rules?

Ok, maybe I was mistake about GS4.  My bad.  So what skill is on auto cast then?  Using auto cast to farm while not actively playing the game is against the rules.  I don't see how what you have described can possibly count as actively playing the game.  For the record, here are some things you did say:

"Mostly it does auto attack...."  <-- sounds like automated farming

"If i decide to park a Necro somehwere and assign auto attack to spawn minions, i still control the char 100%"  <-- no, you are letting the char control itself

"...most of the time the char does it's auto attack and here and there i tap the spacebar with my feet up the table."  <-- sounds like automated farming, not actively playing

I had asked you this question in another thread which you never answered.  Care to answer it now?

-- Earlier you said 'I am well aware how idle and auto kicking works since i am a veteran standing farmer."  So if you are actively playing why would idle and auto kicking even come into play?

    But do you KNOW that?

I’ll answer that:  No.  I’ll defer to you as to your intent regarding auto cast.  I definitely concede your point as to what I quoted.  I don’t know what you meant.

But to post here, and create threads, (and I understand this isn’t your thread) makes no sense.

What DOES make sense is ‘report and move on’.  Let Anet sort it out.

It’s up to them to decide what being truly ‘not actively playing the game’ means.

So based on what they described you think they are fully actively playing the game then?  I'm not at all convinced.

We all know report and move on is what we do in game.  We all know how ineffective it is and why which is why people vent about it and discuss it on the forums.

  14. 1 hour ago, Strider Pj.2193 said:

ok…. So the poster you are quoting spouts some nonsense that I want no part in addressing.  (Personally I believe he is trying futilely to be a Devil’s Advocate, this not being worth our time)

But in effect, by stating what you said about auto casting would mean that no one, any where, could use ‘auto cast’.  Thus making Anets inclusion of it effectively a trap.  Which, it’s not.

Auto cast is an effective use of a tool that Anet has provided us.  It can be used in many different applications.

As has been said by multiple posters, Anet allows inattentive farming.  There has been clarification made in their posts.

That doesn’t mean you can’t report them.  Because we can’t make the decision, but we need to leave Anet to make it.

Making threads here is a fools errand.

Are you purposely trying to twist what I'm saying?  I'm not at all saying that auto cast itself is wrong.  It does depend on how it's used as defined in the policy on Unattended Gameplay.  It is against the rules to use auto cast to automate farming.

"As a general policy, ANY form of unattended gameplay is prohibited in Guild Wars 2This includes:

    • The use of auto-casting abilities to farm while not at your computer or not actively playing the game."

The way I see it the "not actively playing the game" part totally applies here.  Their use of the auto cast function seems to be in violation of this rule.

Yes, it sounds like automated farming.  It does not sound like they are controlling the char, just occasionally casting minions.  They are actively reading a book or studying for a cert.  It sounds like the char is farming autonomously with with minimal input from the person.

That doesn't prove you are actively controlling your char.  Just sounds like you are occasionally casting minions and letting your necro farm autonomously.  Am I wrong?  You said spacebar casts "rise" skill.  What does enter do?  Is GS4 on auto cast?  I'm pretty sure you've said in another thread they you have GS4 on auto cast.  It sounds like you are trying to pretend what you are doing is legit when it is actually against the rules.

In earlier post i actually explained how i play.

I play minion reaper and autoattack minions and assigned "rise" to the space bar. I have my feet up the table and press the spacebar with my toes.

Wile playing, i usually read a book or study for my certificates.

I am a years long Standing Farmer veteran and just enjoy to play this way even being aware this is not the most efficient way to play.

Compared to that relaxing way to play everything else appears as headsmashing

Not so much strange as illogical.  Seems like you are trying too hard to justify it.  You could casually mill about in a small area.  How are you getting from that to smash heads left and right on a battle field or rampaging on different maps?  I've casually farmed and moved around while doing it.  I wouldn't remotely call it rampaging or smashing heads.  Your extreme exaggeration on this doesn't make sense to me.

Sorry, but I'm a bit skeptical.  Something just doesn't make sense to me about what you are describing.  It seems like a waste of time and painfully boring to just stare at the screen waiting for the next mob to spawn.  Help me understand what I'm missing.

People can smash their heads in left and right on a battlefield. I just collect some resources and let the other guys do what they do best

There is just a group of people who want to force higher prices on innocent players and the standing farmers are in their way.

This is why they try so desperately to get rid of everything that gives players alternatives to get their materials.

This has nothing to do with TP Barons, mostly those people are every day Joe farmers

What's the benefit of standing still while farming?  Wouldn't it be much more productive to move around?
