Hey all, just wanted to get some feedback from all of those casual players who are still working on their SOTO Obsidian Armor set...

As someone who doesn't particularly enjoy PVP or WvW, I decided to take the plunge even if it was going to less efficient than other modes... I'm now halfway through the first set... what's everyone's impression to date?

While the sheer number of Essences to grind seemed intimidating, so far just running public Convergences (participating, and picking up 4-6 Essence nuggets) daily along with the weekly rift running has kept me ahead of the game to date...  And while ectos remain expensive and a potential bottleneck, if you're not inclined to purchase outright, you pick up enough of them running through the SOTO metas on a daily basis, as you also acquire the map currencies and arcane chest coins.  While ectos can be slow to accumulate, you can also take a break and grind for them in whatever game-mode appeals to you most...

But OMG my current pain and bottleneck are the Provisioner Tokens... 300 doesn't seem like a lot, and while I had enough reserves to burn through the first piece or two... what a pain it is to be crafting/purchasing/saving and then jumping all over the map on a daily basis to purchase/exchange a couple at a time... I didn't have the foresight to realize this in advance to start accumulating, and what an absolute slog now... Easily the most aggravating aspect of the collection, as ridiculous as it seems, for me to date...

For provision tokens, do the daily craft in wizards tower for 4, then go to each wp in soto maps and exchange for wood/leather/metal. There are a couple easy to pick up in Lion’s arch, and the obsidian shard in black citadel. You can easily get 50 provision tokens in 3-4 days doing this.

  2. GW3 has always been requested by a small percentage of people throughout the years. Even if it was approved to develop doesn’t mean they will start making it. If GW2 is making money then why change something good? I doubt a guild wars 3 will make money if they kitten off all their existing player base, unless they specifically target a different group of people.

  3. I love being able to use otherwise worthless items this way. Makes doing raids/fractals worth it just by the ascended standpoint even if you’ve crafted the legendaries. Helps with making more legendaries. It can be a pain though if you’re short of spirit shards to convert, which I find annoying, but I hang onto them until I get enough to convert.

Amazing. More unobtainable achievements, now not just in PvP, but in PvE too. Exactly what this game needed.

I just want a version of this cm that I can learn and complete, and actually want to do it each week for completion. Not a spend 1000 hrs and never do it again. There are so many achievements in the game. This one I can do without.

  5. Soto is so much more of a grind than other expansions. Makes me wonder what the future yearly release can do to keep players engaged in those expacs. Once you are done with the armor, what else is there to do? Weaponsmaster is one time expac “feature”. Rifts should not be duplicated. Skyscale acquisition is one time thing, and legendary armor cannot be another feature for future. Other than releasing more trinkets with new effects, just about all we got left is underwater items. Legendary breather, 2nd gen legendary underwater weapons could sustain one expac, then you’re good. If they can keep a cadence of new legendary items that interest players with worthwhile skins/effects, I would say just keep releasing new legendaries, but if they repeat the eod legendary cycle then I would say no.

  6. Having done all the wizards vault daily, weekly and specials throughout the season, I can tell you that it is safe to skip one special that is the strike cm. If you don’t want to play the strike cm, it is ok! That is the point of the wizards vault. You don’t have to do everything to get all the good rewards. I spent the last quarter to half of the season turning in my aa for extra gold, because I had already bought everything else. It does encourage groups and maybe even some people get into the mode easier if more groups are made. The nice thing about the special is you have all season, so if you want to do normal mode to get comfortable with it, and work on your build to get better, then you can do that and work towards the cm. If you miss the special you’re not out any special rewards.

  7. PVE casuals get a chance to get a unique set of legendary armor, and you complain about animation? Clearly you are not getting it for its functionality. Besides, I would wait for the last tier 2 to release before making any judgements. Tier 2 will obviously be better and most likely have the animations to it. They develop it like this to fit the expansion releases and to make people play it longer. Because the content is not challenging like raids, does it matter that you have to grind a little bit longer to get an animation? Wvw and pvp are major grinds to get their legendary armor, and they have different tiers as well, animation/no animation.

  8.  Instead of just giving Engineer weapon swap, make weapon swap part of a specilization or elite specilization. This way, there is a trade off for allowing such an option. Just implementing it in the existing system without a trade off will just buff engineer when it doesn’t need to be. I think they could make it work this way without just giving it to engineers.

  9. Hello, thank you for the updates on the shortbow. I might actually try playing this more. There are still some things that I feel didn't get addressed:

    1. Much feedback was given on lack of mobility skills. I really wish this could be incorporated somehow. Perhaps a leap into a targeted area, or an evade back after shooting or something.

    2. I really feel there needs to be a damage component to this weapon. Consider this: shortbow has two skill rows. One that allows you to fire damaging arrows (condi?), while the other row being the support. It could be similar to how vindicator can switch its legendary stance from attack to support. This can create a fun way to play if you do a hybrid build for damage/support.

  10. The wizard vault has always been since it came out a system where you don’t have to login every day to get all the good rewards. You can do weeklies/dailies and can probably get most if not all the unique items. The special tab has always been additional, but not necessarily required to get everything. If Strike missions or Strike cms are not your cup of tea, it will not hurt to skip this. You don’t get special rewards for completing the cm, just the same AA you get by doing other, easier things. It’s not worth the time to complain.

  11. I really hope @Rubi Bayer.8493 some changes are coming for shortbow engi’s based on feedback. As engineer main from beginning, I was excited for the shortbow until the announcement and playing the beta.  I am never one to post on the forums and critique, but the negative feedback on this will definately have people questioning whether to invest in expac 5. I don’t want this to happen! Can we get some kind of input whether this has been looked at, please? Thank you for reading this.

  12. I don’t think unlocking the relics in the future will be a huge deal. If it is anything like soto, those expac relics will be unlocked just playing the story, maps and content as you progress the achievements. You still get freedom of swapping after the fact, and use on as many characters as you want. People just don’t want to play the game lol. You can quit now.

  13. I think they should at least add a meter so you can see your own performance. In groups, it can be nice to see the groups performance. I always had no problems using arc, but with the quarterly updates it’s always breaking so I’ve gotten lazy and haven’t been using it. This is definately a qol update. Anet should also implement some kind of training so people understand how to gear themselves for how they want to play. I think that’s one big thing missing for new players is how do they gear for damage, or how do they gear to heal, or provide boons? Have an npc that gives you “rare” stat changing sets of armor so you can experiment and see how each one works. It’s rare so it’s not ideal for end game play, but it lets you see how the stats work. It could also give players a preview of how legendary armor is useful especially if you want the max armor qol.

  14. If not reworked,, I recommend for skills 2-5 having the first button press 2-5 activating ground target mode, which means you only have to press to target once, then skills 2-5 automatically trigger when you hit each key once. For example the button press could be 2, find your target area, press 2, 4, 5, 3 and it will place where your cursor is without keeping to have to press each button twice. Pressing 1 will negate ground target mode. You will still autoattack while placing.

  15. The skills say “apply conditions”. When I look at each one there is one condition but they are non damaging conditions. I feel like they are missing a damaging condition. Like for the sand put bleeding, the green put torment, blue fire, and skill 5 do something like confusion..

I did think it could be cool to add a switch button for shortbow, to go from ground targeting support arrows to combat damage arrows (while in combat). It basically switches your skillset and you can be more dps oriented. The arrows can be canisters still but the canisters spray out their magic as they are being shot. You can have directional line of sight arrows, enemy targeting arrows, or big aoe effect arrows. Let’s face it. I think most engineers were really hoping for some good ol condi damage shortbow skills with lots of mobility.
