  1. Gamers are just cheap now days. We were paying $60 (and some as many as $75-80) for N64 games back in 1996, which would be at least $104 right now adjusted for inflation. And games were a lot cheaper to develop back then. You didn't have to hire talented voice actors, the music was limited by the technology so nothing too complicated, games were a lot shorter, cinematics hadn't become an industry standard, etc. Yet people bought the games. Now, people want so much more and they complain about prices that, adjusted for inflation, are ridiculously lower than they used to be. We've become spoiled and entitled, all to the detriment of an increasingly overworked, underappreciated, often-abused, and crunch heavy software development culture.
  2. As usual with expansions, you get more than just the content at release date, but all the updates/Living World updates that take place for months/years after. How many extra stories and features did we get after buying HoT? And PoF? A lot more than initially came with the release of the expansions. It isn't about what you get on day one, but what you get down the road.
  3. The Great Giants, or more accurately the Giganticus Lupicus. Just imagine how insane the size difference would be between races LOL.
  4. Alright I'm done. I started this thread thinking we would have a fun discussion about hypothetical features we'd like to see years from now when GW3 would hopefully launch, but instead it's been people coming out guns blazing against the very notion of a third game, defending an old engine that basically looks the same as it did 10 years ago. I'm tired of being on the defense for wanting to have a fun discussion about the next major leap forward for this series. This forum is way too critical of non-mainstream viewpoints. I will not be replying any further and as far as I'm concerned a mod can lock this.
  5. WoW has had texture/graphics updates. Eve Online has had major graphical updates. Even Runescape has had made graphics updates. If GW2 can't have that sort of update due to poor initial coding, then we need a third one. If you really think GW2 can improve the graphics/engine the same way other MMO's have, then answer why they haven't done that so far? The game looks the same way it did 10 years ago, whereas WoW, Eve, and Runescape all look significantly better than at launch.
  6. We had to fight Balth because Balth had a solution to the Elder Dragons. If the Elder Dragons weren't a threat, Balth would have never done what he did. If the Elder Dragons weren't a threat, Joko would have never needed releasing. The Elder Dragons were the threat we were indirectly dealing with in PoF. Sometimes plotlines are deeper than just surface level.
  7. Obsession? It isn't obsession to want an actual sequel, in a brand new engine, with modern code after almost 10 years. That's like saying, instead of wanting Halo 1, Halo 2, and Halo 3, I just want constant DLC for Halo 1. Graphical upgrades? Forget that. More draw distance? Nah, I'll pass. Better resolution compatibility, HDR, or any other features introduced in recent years or soon to be? BORING. Just keep giving me new content in pre-existing textures, baby! Who cares about visual updates, and anyone who wants this is crazy!
  8. PoF was absolutely about fighting a dragon. The dragons become such a problem that a god decided to do something about it. Did he go a little crazy in the process? Sure, but in his mind he was trying to defeat the dragons. And Joko was attempting to fight the dragons in his own way as well. The base game, HoT, PoF, and so far EoD are ALL focused on the dragons. Are there other enemies to deal with as well? Yes, but defeating them isn't the main goal and never has been. It's been all about the Elder Dragons. Which is why, after the Elder Dragons are defeated, if a new enemy arises that has nothing to do with ED, it would be a perfect time to do a brand new game with a brand new engine that looks modern.
  9. Wow. This attitude lol. All I'm talking about is innovating and staying modern. I have been a fan of GW more than half my life. I remember playing GW Factions when it was brand new when I was in 8th grade and now I'm 30. Was GW1 not for me when I wanted new features that were eventually introduced in GW2? No. It is natural to want positive change and not stay stagnate. I am such a fan of GW that I desire it to LOOK modernly beautiful and not have textures that look this bad. The grass, the human skin, there is so much stuff in this game that looks terrible even on the best gaming rigs. I just want a 2021 graphical version of what Guild Wars should look like and not a 2012 version.
  10. I didn't say there were a bunch of things I don't like about GW2. I have loved the game, just like I loved GW1. But you know what happened around 2010? GW1 started to feel really aged out. And guess what, they provided us with GW2 for a fresh experience with modern graphics/features/engines. Now that GW2 is feeling aged out, isn't it normal to want the next big leap forward? People being resistant to a GW3, assuming they could just improve GW2, is like people saying the Nintendo Switch should last for 10+ years without being replaced, or Series X, or PS5. Engines get outdated just like hardware does and there is only so much you can push them before they look awful.
  11. Because the things I mostly want would require completely redesigning the game, and that makes far more sense on a brand new game.
  12. WoW has a full on revolt going right now with people leaving in hordes for other games because of the lack of updates. Also, when you charge monthly, people tend to justify staying because they don't want to admit they have wasted money all these years on monthly subs.
  13. Apparently 7 of the 10 most successful mobile games right now are MMO's, I just read that somewhere. I think if Anet makes GW3 playable not only on PC/consoles, but also mobile (without ruining the game for the PC/console crowd), they could tap into an even bigger market than they have been. I would absolutely be supportive of single player AAA experiences as well, and if that's the only way to continue this game into the future with the kind of upgrades many of us want then so be it.
  14. So why don't they update it then? It looks, to me, the same visually as it did when GW2 launched. Back then it was very impressive looking, now it looks dated. If they haven't updated it at this point, why would we think it is possible they will in the future?
  15. I'd be fine with that if they could improve the game's optimization and visuals. The characters models, particularly on the humans, just look so old now it's off-putting. Other MMO's, such as Eve Online, have significantly improved visuals over the years. Is that possible with GW2? Seems like everything new that comes out looks like things that came out in 2012, but maybe I've played it so much for so long I just haven't noticed improvements?
  16. I mean, at some point they can't do GW2 anymore, right? End of Dragons sounds a lot like the last expansion, personally. Not only does it have the word "End" in it, but it is ending the cycle that the entire second game is based upon. It would be weird to start a new narrative direction with a new enemy (not Elder Dragons) and not start also with a brand new game. Path of Fire, while focused on Balth, was about his goal of dealing with the dragons. Aside from narrative reasons, financially it would make them more stable over the next decade to have a brand new game they can update than one 9+ years older. Many of the millions of GW2 players will be attracted to GW3, whereas GW2 has lust its luster to a lot of people despite new content because of how aged it looks and feels at this point.
  17. Hello all, I tried looking on the forum to see if there were any discussions on this but couldn't find any (granted, there were like 70,000 search items and I didn't look at them all). As excited as I am to return to Cantha (Factions was my first Gw game ever and my favorite), I am far more excited about the possibilities of a new game/engine built on modern code with modern features. I'd like us to discuss what things we'd like in the third full game in the series, if it comes at all (I don't know if they will have the money to make this game ever). Here is a list below of some things I'd like to see in various categories: Story/Setting 1) Make it based on Utopia. We've known this land has existed for years and it's time we got to explore it. Plus, being a new piece of land, it will not devalue GW2, so people can still play the old game to enjoy Tyria/Cantha/Elona. Having a new place or location will give us a fresh start. 2) Make the game centered around leaving the world of Tyria and going back to where humans came from in the first place. A whole new world to discover with new enemies. Perhaps the gods took races from that world to escape an unknown enemy (in addition to the reasons we do know about)? 3) I don't care what Anet says, Abaddon will only be dead-dead if Anet themselves is bankrupt and the ip dies with it. Abaddon was the best villain this series has ever had and I, and many others, are CONVINCED he is still alive. I firmly believe Kormir, when she absorbed his essence/power in Gw1 Nightfall, actually simply because possessed by Abaddon after he pretended to die (god of secrets, people). I want GW3 to be the revelation that Abaddon has been pulling the string all along in GW2 just like he did in all the GW1 games and the return of the best villain in the series. Features 1) GW1 had an extremely divisive in-game culture with guilds/alliances. People would sabotage, make political moves, merge with co-leaders, and do all kinds of things to get ahead. I guess Anet viewed that as a bad thing, as GW2 has a much more chill Guild culture. The thing is, for those of us that particularly lived in the faction farming world of Cantha, we liked all the politics! GW3 shouldn't force that kind of gameplay, but there should be mode(s) of the game that allow that sort of thing to happen. 2) Not only public housing, but a map where you can see everyone's house on the same server. Make them generate only as you get closer to them, and let the map go on and on as you go through the list. You can instantly teleport to invitees homes, or just stumble around marveling at how people decorate their homes. 3) Only have skins that are fitting to the world. GW2 has become a massive eyesore over the years because of all the people playing with absolutely ridiculous looking colors and skins. I'm not saying everyone has to role play, but it would be more appealing to a gamer like me if the only options of armor/weapon/mount skins were ones that look like they belong in the world in which I'm playing. 4) A WvW system based on guilds/alliances. Winner gets to claim a city, just like the Kurzick/Luxon days of old. Have the cities reward massive benefits (the better the city the better the benefits), provide exclusive access to content that you have to earn to get access to, put the guild/alliance logo on a map for bragging rights. Your guild/alliance has issues with another one, or thinks you can beat them to capture their city? You declare a challenge and fight over it. Obviously there needs to be something to lose for guilds/alliances that have little or nothing, so perhaps losing a challenge prevents you from doing another one for a month. Technical 1) Don't start GW3 off with spaghetti code. GW2 runs poorly even on state-of-the-art equipment (compared to brand new games) because of how inefficient the code is. I know that can't be fixed without a MASSIVE coding operation and that's just unrealistic. So please, when you do GW3, do it the right way. So that's my list for now, what would you like to see?
  18. Sadly the map reset in the middle of that revelation for myself, so I got some of the dialogue cut off and it didn't continue when I returned (I just had to do the next step in the quest).
  19. I interpreted Kralks "mother" comment as a possible indication that the Elder Dragons were created by some higher being, not that they are descendants of a line of former Elder Dragons, but that's just where my mind went.
