With defenders of course. It's not easy to flip a T2/3 SM during the day and the evenings.

But its quite easy to make into swiss cheese and if you focus the owners Garri and make them decide one or the other than 2-3 can take it. The difference is all the nerfs over time. Take the devs from the second link, they were worried about getting thru a reinforced tower with 5 in the group and 3 followers. That's 4 cats which would burn thru it in extremely short order and then they would just need 1 to take the tower these days. Now consider what a Warband or Zerg could do compared to a Havoc they had. That second vid to me shows a pretty big difference and not sure the current devs even think that there is anything but full squad play.

    Original intro to WvW

Well, I took from that old video, that managing resources would be vital, canons and burning oil would be dangerous for attackers  and SMC would "require a major effort by an army of players" to conquer. You would earn XP and loot like in PvE and if you "cap enough points, everyone on your server gets bonuses".

Sounds like the WvW we play now?

    First streaming of WvW

Izzy Cartwright - "small scad tactics, something I do a lot when I play" (at about 20 seconds in) ... that's how the times are changing over a decade.

Interesting blasts from the pasts here.

I suggested before they use the dragons and gods names for the worlds.

The beta names are terrible and hope they don't use them.

Not like any of it matters anymore, everyone is just green blue red these days anyways. 🤷‍♂️

lol, you know the longer and more players that use the short nameplates it is just red green and blue. Course I also find it funny since they also seem to think they can better hide behind corners or objects and seem to have forgotten that it doesn't impact the other side if they use the standard name plates and they are quite easy to see. 🙂 But yes get a lot of '<Server Name>, 25+ south Bay, 4 cats outer, double wall'. 'What color is that?'. 'Um, what?' lol

I'm probably in the minority of thinking on this one but something kinda weird when the names are just carbon copies of each other for na and eu. Maybe give both na and eu a list to vote on from see what they alliance names should be. just a thought, or maybe down the line we get to name our own alliances who knows.

The Alliance system is shelved and doesn't have names.

I am wondering if this has been brought up before... why are the jumping puzzle and random caps in EoTM included in the weekly? It is not a top priority to change this but it is still baffling. PvErs would more likely choose PvE as a weekly and WvW players are not going to be doing jumping puzzles unless they are desperate for 50 Astral Acclaim over the other 6 weekly vault objectives you need to complete a weekly.

To be more detailed I am referencing the following:

    • Capture 5 World vs. World objectives in the Edge of the Mists
    • Complete the Obsidian Sanctum Jumping Puzzle in the Obsidian Sanctum Map
    • Complete the Emerald Sanctum or Sapphire Sanctum Jumping Puzzle

I admit I don't look at the weeklies but just click thru them when it shows something is done. First guess is that they already have enough normal style WvW events that they just added them for more variety over and above and what they had. Second as you pointed out might be a carrot on a stick to try and draw more PvX or PvE style players into the game mode. Isn't there also still a guild mission linked to the OS puzzle? May have to check the wiki on that one.

Nope, at the time of Warhammer I was still a hardcore Battlefield player, was not really into that old generation of MMOs (only played WoW for a short time).

So in a nutshell Anet's view of an Alliance is just a big guild. The Alliance system in Warhammer were all guilds were equal weight in voting new guilds in and out. That way there were checks and balances in guilds and their behaviors to try and limit drama up front but also to limit bad interactions between guilds later on so that a disagreement didn't mean that individuals had enough power to just oust members of another guild or a guild without a peer review of the member guilds.

Just to give context on why I asked.

  7. Sorry confused peep.

In the WvW subforum everyone needs a nerf and then we all lose when we all get a blanket nerf.

Edit: Hang around in the WvW subforum and all builds/elites/classes/siege/keep/camps/NPCs/tonics/and dance offs need a nerf at some time. Its just as a metter of when.

It's so hard to play against, top burst, top mobility, top survivability.

Profession balance might be a better spot for this thread.

Edit: sorry confused poster, was it the player or the class? If it is the class then that subforum. If the player, would you still ask for the nerf on any class they play? If yes then its not the class but the player.

But think of the change to meta? How we could finally break up the stacking, the zergs and the boon-borg! I bet half the boon generating skills doesn't even work UW! Think of a group of 10 roaming thieves and rangers, bating a boon-borg around and just as they get near water, they have their roaming friends activate and raise the water level, so everyone get caught swimming! It will be like putting a horde of quaggans into a mixmaster!

See, UW combat fixes ALL of WvW problems! Clever use of adjusting water levels would equal the field of taking objectives as well, as you can just swim over walls, no need to single handedly ram the door to take back your keep for the 5th time after the zerg been there, you can now take the keep as fast as the zerg did!

And now zergs are going to get so paranoid they're going to put a group of people to guard the ruins on "Tusnami control", "Make sure they don't activate that piece of kitten!"

Edit: Oh, and swimming Yaks. Win!

lol. No I appreciate the thought, just not the idea of having to create all that gear I skipped lol.

Shrines and bloodlust are a good mechanic and could still be applied if those spaces needed to be re-tasked for another purpose. Example, ABL, leave the south one in place, move the other 4 to the corners of the maps so that it would require more coordination to cap all of them but less to cap and hold three and creates more potential fights along the way. That would also give use to the spaces in the north ABL that don't currently have any value outside of a waystation for roamers evading pursuit.

DBL already has enough space between the shrines to create various fights in the open areas between them.

kitten, that song is THAT old? I really am getting old.

    ikr! 🙂 Tempus Fugit.

lol, I think why this will always be my go to change song is the refrain, the dichotomy of it that hits the mark. Its matched so many events over decades that makes me return time after time to it. I can't even count the number of friends have known and lost while this song carries us across those bounds. Times change, new times will be had.

    To new friends! o/

    To old friends o/

To friend's time catches. 😞 De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.

Fairly sure no one has played with alliances since they never existed beyond the concept (or at best, prototype code but going by the fact we've only seen GUI mockups... I say no).  I would still argue that for practical purposes, they are identical to guilds. Especially since Anet never went into the management of them beyond creation.

Were you a Warhammer player? The reason I question Anet's view of Alliances is due to that.

  12. 14 hours ago, Cameo.4073 said:

So the Alliance guild would be the one you would choose for sorting and then the individual guilds could still rep their primary affiliations in WvW..

    Thank you for the explanations.

A community guild would allow for what you are referring to, which isn't the same as an Alliance which is why it is on hold. A community guild would still be managed by a guild lead but allow for players to break into other guilds once sorted.

This is not an Alliance. Alliances are on hold till further notice. Note there are differences if you ever played a WvW game with Alliances. These are not the same.

  13. Its like Warhammer, they nuke the ground you play on. But this is a more passive way where they try and not take the blame. It's still the same result.

To those Warhammer players that moved here, WAAAGH!!!! Our fights go on, to those moving on, we will see you in the next RVR game and hopefully next time meet in mixed region servers! Good hunting!

Sorry I guess the sarcasm wasn’t clear. Quite the contrary, you are correct. But that’s not what other people keep ranting about when it comes to WR - they are afraid that suddenly these drama llama guilds are going to become super stable stacked hardcore 500 man guilds with 50 man raids on every border at the same time.

And that is what’s funny. I agree with someone for once and it’s instantly seen as an attack, sigh.

And you wonder why I call you one of my snarky friends. Sometimes we have non-active posters that will miss the underlining point, which is when I try and poke you and other snarky friends. Forum Wars 2 open to all, but mind the audience as well, yes? Though I still owe you a, are you new here lol.

Can't resist: Just fill the entire map with water, and use the ruins to control water level... 🙄

lol! I see what you are doing!

I know, 32 WvW toons and I admit most with no breather, a lot with the intro one and most missing runes.

    SHAME SHAME SHAME!

And here I thought of you as a friend....................

Err... I mean who doesn't face up to the challenge of leaving out gear to up their challenge level! (Remind me what's an aqua breather and where do we get one?) Free diving for the win FTW!!!!!!

I pretty much only see them in WvW during the first skirmish after weekly reset. Though I used to occasionally see one on during OCX time. Mostly,  they were almost always running with a prime time zerg. So I'd guess their experience is mainly zerg play, which explains their changes, and apparent lack of knowledge of non-zerg playstyles.

I think you pretty much nailed this. Consider the live casts they do on skills balance. They defined like a dozen roles for sPvP but then broke WvW down to 2 and that was just defined in terms of zerg on zerg at the time. That was a big tell on its own.

Because there are multi guilds per player, now up to 6 (and some players have friends across multiple WvW guilds)

The guild leader needs to be able to see how many members are actually going to be assigned to that WvW server during that week.

No tools needed, only 1 guild can be your WvW guild. Guild lead will need to determine who is in or out. That was an issue with Alliances as designed and with the 6th guild slot versus an actual Alliance system where guilds are weighted equally. If there is bad blood among guilds its decided by the guild lead that forms the guild that is used as the WvW guild.

    2 hours ago, Cameo.4073 said:

Will the World assignments be based on the guild total population or the guild population that selects to be with that guild in WvW?

Based on total guild and factored by average WvW play time over and unknown amount of time.

Guild leaders might have to make hard and unpopular choices to staff their rosters.

Yes else they will be short on numbers during the sorting period of 4 weeks later to be expanded to 'x' weeks.

    2 hours ago, Cameo.4073 said:

If a player does WvW with multiple guilds can there be a primary and a secondary (assuming those guilds are not against each other)?

No, this further breaks the point of the system. To do this these guilds need to be using the same common guild in order to be sorted together.

    2 hours ago, Cameo.4073 said:

If guild 1 is in world A and guild 2 is in world C could they have both marked so that they can WvW with guild 1 on weekdays and guild 2 on weekends?

No again this breaks the point of trying to balance the populations among the new worlds.

Well in that case... it's high-time I uninstall. Was a fun 11yrs and no, no one will have my gold.

    Not happy either.

    But don't go there.

I like my server, we are a rag tag bunch of peeps, organized, lol, kitten no. Will we end with a Comm guild, probably no. Do I still like them, yes. So if in the same state be ready to ride the whirlwind, else find comm guilds, larger guilds or just be set for the vortex. Else be ready for the mix and form up from there. 6/14, good hunting all!
