As for necromancers not having a resemblance: really? Ritualists are about summoning and controlling spirits and channeling power from the Mists. Modern necromancers are able to summon and control spirits and channel power from the Mists. Marjory's story of why she left the Ministry Guard also has necromancers doing things that in GW1 had been associated with ritualists, such as communing with a ghost and another necromancer banishing it to the Mists.

Things like communing with ghosts and the duty to banish/lead them back into the mists have always been associated with necromancer directly, even with them not having lore connections to ritualists in guild wars 1.

That's more a thing that comes naturally with necromancers being worshippers of Grenth. Now in guild wars 2, of course, necromancers are not always associated with Grenth anymore. But it seems they still kept their duties in these regards, considering that they are all death related things, which is where they draw their power from.

This connection to Grenth is the most they have in common in guild wars 1 and why they are both associated with the duties of leading spirits to the afterlife and communing with the spirits. But necromancers and ritualists still are using completely different sources of powers, ritualists share the source of their power with revenants, tho.

But I don't think this connection is enough to say necromancer and ritualist are close to each other thematically. That's like saying elementalist and ranger are close, just because they both draw power from Melandru in the first game.

Both ritualists and necromancers have a strong theme around interacting with the dead. The primary distinction was that necromancers deal with the dead while the dead are still in Tyria, while ritualists were able to pull them over from the other side.

Revenants, on the other hand, don't deal with the dead at all according from the information back in the day. Legends aren't the spirits of the entities concerned, even if they behave as if they are. Instead, they're a manifestation of the imprint that set of events had on the Mists. Which is why we were able to channel Joko to escape from a Mordant Crescent prison.

Only thing they really have in common is reaching into the Mists for power. And by that note, one could also claim similar links among a lot of the core professions.

Incidentally, your ranger/elementalist connection? I'd argue that's at least as plausible. Both use elemental effects. Both invoke elemental spirits, although elementalist also provides them bodies to wear.
