Sometimes desktop freezes when starting GW2

Can somebody help me to identify this problem? This already existed some time for me.

When i start gw2, after log in when starting the game, i dont come to the character select screen, instead my desktop freezes and i hear the background music of the game. When clicking somewhere or using my keyboard nothing happens. The only way to come out of this "freeze" is to ctrl+alt+del and log off my windows user. After this gw2 automatically close and i can restart it again. This problem doesnt happens always, it seems random and is like around every fifth time i start the game.

Somebody know a solution? I already reinstalled windows and gw2, that didnt help. And i dont use any third party software.

This is often caused by some overlay; do you use Discord or any other third-party apps?  If so, try disabling/removing them before playing.

As IC already suggested, it's likely your Discord (or another program's) overlay.

Simply disable the program's overlay function, et voilà.
