Mythic Weapon Choice Costs How Much?!?!

Recommended Posts

Let me preface this rant by saying I'm still playing the game. I started back in Guild Wars 1 beta and enjoy the game and the community.

I was initially ecstatic when I saw that ANet added the Mythic Weapon Choice box to the Black Lion Statuette vendor - until I saw the item lists for 150 Black Lion Statuettes (~1 statue per Black Lion Chest with a low chance for more).

For reference, prior methods to obtain the skins included 2000 gem packages, as well as the Elite Weapons Voucher (for 1200 gems), which was only available for one day during last year's March sale.

While some could argue the idea of the "Mythic" set is to be tough/difficult to get, this price doesn't even come close to being in line with the previous prices of the skins. It takes, quite literally, thousands of gold (more than most Legendary weapons) in order to get a single Mythic skin.

Anet-Chelsea (designer of some of the Gen 2 Legendary weapons and the Mythic set) even commented that legendary weapons, such as Pharus, have much more going for them than their Mythic weapon counterparts. This would indicate that the Mythic weapons should be cheaper to acquire than a Legendary weapons, but that doesn't add up with current pricing.

I would honestly be happy if the Elite Weapons Voucher made a come-back in the March sales or was available at a similar pricing to what it was originally, 1200 gems/weapon. I know this was still considered high priced by many on Reddit and in-game last year, but it's leagues ahead of the current ~8400 gems/weapon price.

Just to be clear, I was/am willing to spend money. However, at ~8400 gems/weapons, that's a little steep.

That works out to ~$100.00/weapon skin.

Don't get me wrong, I understand they need to make money. They were charging 1200 gems/weapon last year.

What is the logic in charging roughly 7 times more now?

I'm also aware this isn't an exact 7 times increase since we do receive items back from the Black Lion chests, but it's still an exponential increase.

You could have obtained one last August/September for 2400 Gems (which included ~5000 Gems worth of items in the 'bundle').

Also, not that much more than Onyx/Gold weapons (which were also only available in bundles for some time...as were the Immortal Weapons).

Perhaps, when a new 'bundle' weapon comes out and then moves to Statuettes, the prices will drop.  It's possible.  🤷‍♂️

The old price of the Immortal and Onyx weapons was also 150, seems they got the new / recent / vintage treatment too.

So yes, they are very expensive but , if we look at the older sets, the price wasn't really a surprise.

Appreciate the replies, but none of them address the core problem I pointed out which was that the new price is several times higher than the price these were previously listed during their previous one-day sale last March.

I've bought all the packages that were available so far - as I'm sure many others did as well, but I unfortunately missed out on the one-day sale they had last March for the Elite Weapons Voucher 🙁. Here's hoping they offer more packages or vouchers in the future.

As for the price of the Immortal and Onyx weapons, I, as well as others, had thought those prices were ridiculous as well. I think this was one of those cases where not many people screamed because not as many cared about those sets. I could be wrong about this, but I've seen very few people ask about, or use, the Immortal skins, and I've only seen a handful of people using the Onyx ones. I honestly was surprised when they listed the Mythic weapons at 150, since I was expecting them to move the Immortal, Onyx, and Mythic to the 60/45/25 increments that the other Black Lion weapons received. Guess I'll hope that they lower the price once they add the Gold Essence weapons to the list.

Lastly, I agree the skins should be more difficult to get than the standard Black Lion weapon skins - it's why the Elite Weapons Voucher was sold at 1200 gems / weapon when it was released, vs. the normal price for Black Lion weapon skins (400 - 600 gems). It's a bit extreme to say these skins should cost more than most legendaries though, considering they come without the quality of life features that legendaries have (these are simply skins).

Alas, I'm not expecting ANet to make any changes to these prices, was simply looking to vent my frustration. I'll hold out hope that they offer the Elite Weapons Voucher in the future as a way to buy these at a discounted rate, with the changes they made to the March sales (lasting more than one day at a time), hopefully I won't miss out if it comes up again.
