My honest take on WVW

Both roaming and zerg have problems that ANET or can't fix, don't want to fix or don't know how to fix.

As for roaming issues are bad balance around classes and honestly little objectives for roamers, we can only really can take camps and sentry since building a siege often requires more than one trip to build.

as for balance around classes i think ANET is not doing anything to fix (No saying that "is not really balanced for roaming" is not an good argument and i will make clear when soon enough) the following is some issues that predominantly affects roaming.

Willbender: It will dash at you with 1 aegis 3 blocks from focus protection and various other boons and more buffs from virtues and will blind you. negating 5 hits of yours while melting you with lots of damage and if you are not dead they will dash away and wait to do again. you could argue they need that much defense to survive in a zerg fight but that is false cause zergs have support to deal with survivability proven by classes without that amount of defenses.

 

Harbinger: Is there a reason why necros can get 250 toughness 250 power and pulsating protection for spamming condis?, warrior had 300 toughness while in berserker and 1000 when breaking out of stuns but those got deleted, and harbinger abuses it with crapton of condition spam and access to all boons... did i mention that they also have stat boosting in harbinger mode.... cause they do by stacking blight and passively when using F1.

 

Stealth: That mechanic has no counter when you are getting one shot from OOC (Out Of Combat) and getting one shotted, and then counter it does have is mediocre as skills to counter it os often not worth taking. (sight beyond sight and on my mark comes to mind). Also another issue with stealth that some skills requires target not allowing people even try and predict the thief and try and cleave them.

 

Now for zerg gameplay the issue is the boonball meta and defending is unrewarding.

Boonball: Less and less you have an effective way to deal with enemies that have more boons than you and the only way you can win against them is having more boons yourself or the enemy make a grave mistake and get divided and die by getting picked 1 by one. that's not an interesting gameplay cause it places the win condition on the hands of luck of having more people to spam boons or the enemies making mistakes.

Defending: I understand that as a attacker getting sieged by something out of your reach but also is annoying for defenders to fight for an objective and still get nothing out of it. Killing incoming reinforcement will not grant you defense reward if the reinforcement didn't reach the objective yet, rebuilding also wont grant you anything, nor does tactics pulling only killing the invaders will grant you defense. Now for me to get a reward for attacking an objective i just need to kill an guard and if it is taken in 10 minutes after i killed that guard i still get recompense (granted is bronze tier but depending of the objective its lots of reward for minimal effort).

 

It would be unfair of me to criticize and not at least try and give an idea of how to fix so here i will give a shot

 

Roaming:

Class balance: Some classes out perform other classes easily and some classes are desperate for buffs and i will use how willbender is one of the most popular and effective spec and keeps getting buffed and bladesworn who is a by nature clunky spec and keeps getting nerfed and adding more clunkiness like adding lag to an skill. It is obvious the balance seems to have favorites.

Objective: That one seems to be harder to fix cause would require maps change... but also i have a a perfect solution, Make EOTM an map focused on roaming and it would decrease the borderlands queue and give roamers an map with less "getting chased after by a bored zerg".

 

Zerg

Boonball: Buff boon strip. boon corrupt can be a bit annoying as you need to skills to undo as you need to reapply the boon and cleanse the condition so make boon strip stronger and give the boon corrupt classes boon strip and buff the skill.

Defense: Allow defense to be rewarded by every type of defense even if it was by doing logistics or being a obstacle to reinforcement.

 

Well that was my longass post on what i would say is the issue for now for wvw. sorry for my english i am a self taught English speaker.

For roamers it does take two trips but I don't quite agree that is a limiting factor, just means you need different spots or to be fast.
