YourOnlyOne.4937
Non-logged-in characters can indeed be added into the Homestead, and maybe provide some services or something. Crafting Friendly duel If you invite other players in, they act as merchants (especially for crafting). We can also send them on an errand, side missions, and then they bring back some non-game changing rewards. Instead of them being idle, at least they're doing something. Later, maybe guildmates can hire idle characters. There are rules of course, but that's up to them. In the future, they can probably set up an open-world map or two for open-world interaction. This way, we no longer need to invite players to our Homestead just to interact with our idle characters. We can probably “rent” a store or something where we assign a character to provide services. As mentioned, there are rules. For example, we have to send Character 24 to some side mission where their task is to get a permit to open a crafting store. They can fail depending on the current skill level of the character itself. And there's an upkeep / rental fee, there's a limited space after all. In yet another future patch/improvement, that open-world map or two for idle characters can have map events as well. There is day/night time cycle which affects everything.

Guy.9207
Yes please. I would love to have the ability to interact with my alts, even if just the matter of saying hello or putting them on certain spots.
Trejgon.9367
Perfect dream would be if I could place them and script them to do things around, but I am aware that it could be requiring too much dev time to pull off, so anything would do.

I think if you give them too much functionality it might get out of hand for people who have a lot of characters. It would be great if they just walk around in your homestead taking basic standard actions for immersion. Maybe have a few of them designated as basic vendors that you can sell to and purchase basic merchant items from. I think that would be relatively easy to implement and have minimal impact on game balance.
Kiof.5710
Well if our offline PCs were to be included as home instance "NPCs" perhaps they could do what STO has done with their DOFF (duty officer) system. Instead of setting operations, tactical, science, etc officers to give out the assignment choices, we could assign our offline characters to gardening, crafting, armor polishing, mount wrangler, etc. Then if you were to enter the home instance with an already "in use" character, it could randomly swap in another character for that visit.
