sPvP/WvW Power Spear is lacking

Against target golems, NPCs or bad players that just facetank damage and don't use dodge roll or stun break or any defensive skills, the Spear in the hands of a Willbender does perform well yes, as does every single weapon a Willbender has vs these kinds of players.

 

Against decent players running good specs like FA Weaver, Power Holo, Power DD, Deadeye, Power Spellbreaker or Bladesworn, Nade Scrapper, Power Reaper, GS Vindi, LB/Sw/Sw burst Wilbender, Cele Cata, Cele Harb, Cele Renegade; you won't outplay them using a Spear.

Those specs can be beaten, but mostly by the Guardian's profession mechanics and if you do beat them while using a Spear, you could have done so with a Greatsword or Hammer or Longbow burst; and probably even easier.

There's nothing about the Spear that gives a unique playstyle to the Guardian or unlocks something we're missing, it doesn't provide any special mechanics to outplay a situation like a Sceper/Focus Weaver or Sword/Shield utilities galore Holosmith can, or the new and incredible Warrior, Ranger and Thief Spears.  And if you're trying to support you're still better off with Mace/Shield or Staff.

 

The 3&5 into JI and Whirling Light combo works when you're snowballing in PvP and you can appear to +1 out of nowhere, but if you're evenly matched, or your enemy dodges or has Stability or you're on the defensive, the Spear doesn't do well.

 

What would have been interesting is something like Warrior Staff with some duration blocks, healing support and CC options to support but also outplay, or to finally get reflect on a weapon, or something mobile with built in evades like the Warrior's Greatsword to give something to all Guardian specs they don't currently have.

Or a Ranged damage weapon that didn't use projectiles and had some defence and CC on it to outplay enemies.

We don't need another support weapon, Mace, Shield and Staff do this fine plus we have the entire Firebrand elite spec.
