Not understanding how this works (solved - and thanks)

I have my main toon that I have been playing from early on. I have a couple of alts and when I go to hero point areas or mastery point spots it has already been taken and says I can't learn anymore or it shows already finished... I don't understand how the alts are going to be able to gain mastery or HPs as they go.What am I missing?

Mastery points are account wide.

Hero Points are per-character.

Mastery points are account wide and afaik not repeatable, so if you have already unlocked one you need to find a new one to unlock with any character to get more mastery points.

Hero points are specific to each character, but there are ways to skip having to redo hero point challenges again on each character. For example, in WvW you sometimes get Skirmish Chests which will let you choose the Testimony of Heroics as a reward. Once you collect enough of these, you can trade them at the Heroics Notary NPC available on the WvW maps to complete randomly selected (and uncompleted) hero challenges from the core Tyria, HoT expansion maps and PoF expansion maps instantly without having to do those challenges.

Mastery Insights are 1 time account-wide use spots that grants you 1 mastery point.Masteries are effects that unlocks for all your characters in your account.

Hero Points however, you need to interact with every spot per character to get that or these hero points for that character, note that a character at level 80 will automatically have enough Hero Points to unlock every trait line and every utility skill of their core specialization, so getting extra HPs through map exploration is not necessary.

There is, however, a way to "claim" these HPs without even having reached the area where a HP is, and its by the use of consumables you buy with one of the WvW currencies that unlocks HP points of the area.

The really nice perk is that all your new characters already have all the masteries that any earlier characters completed, including gliding and mounts, which makes leveling so much easier.
