Orack.9756
Depend.Chronomancer is amazing to support in PvE instance.Ele have some good build with Cata to heal, especially in WvW.Chrono is harder to play than ele heal. Both are fun in their way, I like Ele more in general.Ele DDs can also be pretty good at stacking might but that all for support.Take them both, try them, and choose suit to your own taste. reikken.4961
while they both can do a bit of both, mesmer has better offensive support, and ele has better defensive support
Armen.1483
Ele support has been buffed recently, so might need some more testing before I say for sure, but for now for me mesmer is definitely the winner.

If you think about WvW builds, I think Mesmer is the better choice if you can play them equally well, because it offers a better survival solo and in small (un-organized / PUG groups). When you have a "leader" (someone who tags targets, a commander with some battlefield tactics), I think it simple gets down to personal preference. As support build you need to know when to drop your "bombs", heals, reflects etc., no matter what profession.
