Why do you play Engineer?

I liked the original design for it being Jack of all trade but master of none and I love tech theme Class/Job/Professions. Sadly the design has issues that trying to be the Jack of all trade but master of none did not go so well now.

I think the Jack of all trades idea is terrible for balance and ends up making room for pretty mediocre things (revenant comes to mind). What made me love engi so much was the complexity it has, every kit and toolbelt adds a layer of choices to be made and that's extremely enjoyable.

GW1 Ranger was a jack of all trades for its time, and I loved it for it. Engineer felt like the spiritual successor to GW1 ranger, so I liked that.

I've never really expected anything from the class. I jumped on the game at the release with my RL friends, there were thieves, elementalists, rangers, guardians. I came up with a tiny charr engineer and made some laughable joke of a backstory consisting of him being too small to even be allowed to join the legions so he had to compensate with other qualifications.

Today that "joke" is more than 5 years old, has had excellent moments in PvP, WvW and PvE throughout these years and is filled to the brim with ascended and legendary gear and builds with a fashion I regularly keep up to date. I guess the joke's on me.

I've recently found the very first screenshot of my Engi, I couldn't help but compare it with the last one I've made and... it's been one hell of a journey so far huh?

The fact I like Engineer, that I'm not an altaholic, combined with my fondness for this character might have sealed my fate in GW2.
