CoherentUI is still in use, even though they said they'd be moving to a Chromium solution today 🤔

32-bit games (CoherentUI is 32-bit, so it's relevant here) running via Proton are crashing on the current Steam Client beta:

Apparently the steam beta update was causing the issue for me. Opted out of beta updates and now proton is working again.
My only concern is that whatever is causing the issue eventually gets rolled out to stable release without being detected. Can you guys check if steam beta is causing this issue on your side as well? Maybe it is worth reporting it to valve somewhere (github, I guess?).
Can confirm, opting out from Steam Client beta fixed the rendering corruptions!

are you using nvidia?
Yes, I am.

the launcher, parts of it render outside of the window. It's much worse on my partner's machine though since it contstantly flickers so it is nearly impossible to tell what options are selected or entering a username or password.
I got this same issue with the latest GW2 update. This applies to anything in the game using CoherentUI. So, login launcher, TP, Guild scribing UI etc.
I was using GE-Proton7-31, and tried to update to 7-37, but the results were the same.
Edit: In other news, the CoherentUI_Host memory leak appears to be gone. And all my TP slideshow-ness with it.
Things are still rendering, but are hard to navigate 😛

6. The Trading Post doesn't work properly, or is blank.
You need to restart the game sometimes due to a known memory leak in CoherintUI.
Game elements going blank, that are utilising Coherent UI, can sometimes happen to me when I interact with TP, or the Assembly Device at a Guild hall for the first time after login. That indicates Coherent UI is not only leaking memory, but also outright unstable, at least on Wine. Though I haven't experienced this for a few days now.
Edit:
Since I'm using Proton with a kernel that has fsync included, I tried PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1
It seems to make the Coherent UI Host leak slower, and I can play longer before the TP turns into a slideshow. -

That one was way too old to have the DXVK version required for current version of Coherent UI.
That version is from February, and 28 revisions behind current release.

Ive tried it and it dosen't work on linux.
Works for some, not for others. It's the current theme after Anet made the Coherent UI upgrade.

Sure you can. Lutris has support for games on Steam.

Having the map open had no effect on my memory leak induced TP slugginess

These days the majority of Wine improvements are around game compatibility, of which Steam's Proton is a fork of.

My point was Steam on a linux PC is native, so it is kept running a lot better than something like Wine which is not nearly as focused on player experience for gaming.
The Steam client and Wine are both native. Games you run through either one of them are a separate question.

On a side note, Geforce Now is available on linux, and I have had success running it that way.
Machines the game's streamed from still run Windows.

Simply providing some feedback on my experience. Other people's experiences may differ, but that's a given. You're a bit rude aren't you! Those words are yours and not mine.
Playing on Windows 11 adds very little to this thread.
And we already know that some have issues while others have none. That goes for both Windows and via Wine.

Anyway, I'm not having coherentui crashes anymore for using TP a lot, nor switching maps and chars, anyone else?
Leak is still there. Still in the situation where TP becomes unbearable to use after a while. Not had any crashes while playing since the 19th, though, after switching to non-Steam game method. Currently playing the game with GE-Proton7-28.

The whole thread is a mess of people posting about "slow" or "blurry" Trading Post.

I noticed that too, though for me it's not just a slowdown, the game systematically crashes after I while I play, how long I can play before it crashes depends on what I do.
I've tried to force myself to crash, unsuccessfully. It seems Coherent UI only bloats to a certain point, about 625 MiB for me, and doesn't go further. TP turns into a slideshow around the half point of that.
-
The low frame rate TP and blurry text scaling aren't the same issue.

I am, and wrote a in game bug report.
More likely to get a response via ticket instead.

Could be tied to a memory leak in Coherent UI.
My TP starts to operate at 5 fps or so after my CoherentUI_Host has hoarded about 600 MB. Opening the TP and mapping can ball it up quite fast.
I use the Trading Post and map quite a lot, so I can hit this threshold in less than an hour, or deliberately force it within minutes.
-
No wonder I couldn't find it. They posted it on the wrong sub-forum xD
-
Yup, the issue I get after playing for a while.

What do you mean? The Trading Post?
There's a memory leak currently in Coherent UI that'll eventually slow the TP to a crawl.

Just play with the settings on that area, every OS and hardware is different so the issue is not 100% ArenaNet.
I don't think anyone had claimed that.

I see that CoherentUI_Host took almost 700 MiB of memory after a few hours online. Now at ~120 MiB after relaunching the game.
So memory leak is real, and may be the cause of the TP stutter?

I sure hope there is an impact. I'd like to have a snappy TP.
