  1. The GW2 engine has been neglected for so long, this end of support is a result of that. They had 2 years to prepare for a replacemente to OpenGL.
  2. Unfortunately that's not the point. Yes it works for now. But, and i quote Anet: "In 2018, Apple ended support for the OpenGL graphics technology that Guild Wars 2 uses on the Mac. While games and other software that rely on OpenGL still work for now, Apple has made it clear that this will not always be the case in new OS versions. They have also stopped actively fixing problems on Mac OS related to OpenGL, including graphics hardware driver issues. " It may not work for much longer. Apple stop fixing any problems with OpenGL on their systems, dropped support for it, and while it's still there in a kind of "legacy" capacity, it might not be for much longer. That's the problem, the "what next", not "how it is now"... Anet, and many others can't bank on OpenGL working and it's not a good idea to base your support on assumptions. As for the other Apple stuff like a new chip and Metal (i think?) API, that requires a re-write of the code to work with that. Anet just doesn't have the resources to do it.It is what it is, and you have only Apple to blame. This is the price of exclusivity as opposed to inclusivity. Apple wants to have an exclusive club of users, devs and their ecosystem, but that unfortunately means that not everyone is invited. That's what you pay for. A cool secure OS and app ecosystem that's entirely under Apple's control with no chance of any "unwanted" software on it. It just so happens that Guild Wars 2 falls under "unwanted" because they use OpenGL. The kernel of MacOS is Open Source. OpenGL last update was 3+ years ago. Vulkan has a lot more future. Anet probably can't updated their own engine.
  3. Indeed, it is worst than expected. We could chose to deal with emulating x86 on newer Macs if there was no support, but they decided to lock out paying customers instead. I don't think Anet can even change their outdated engine and may be looking towards Guild Wars 3, which may support Macs. OpenGL was a great cross-platform API, but it was last updated on July 2017. It is time to move on, probably to Vulkan. Apple may even adopt Vulkan eventually, they do support Open Source ...some users don't know, but MacOS is partially Open Source and certified Unix.
  4. After 4 months, we still don't know if Guild Wars 2 will be supported on Macs with ARM CPUs.
  5. Are there any plans to support MacOS after the transition to ARM/Apple Silicon?
  6. I redownloaded GW2 and it seems to be working... it is still updating. The bug may have to do with a security feature in MacOS.
  7. update: same crash but they are less frequent now... Settings between low and medium.
  8. The crashing bug seems to be fixed. I was able to play PvP and the story instance that crashed every time. Autodetect graphic settings with some turned low or off (textures, ambient occlusion, etc).
  9. After the Wintersday update, I get constant crashes while doing a story instance in Sandswept Isles. Both MacOS and GW2 are on the latest version.
  10. anet made a lazy port, the FPS and loading times of the map are unacceptable. I'm redownloading the whole client to see if it helps performance. Those specs are pretty low for any game unfortunately. The killer is that you are using integrated graphics but an i5 with 8 ig does not help. Try running in a window and turning down any graphics setting you can. If you can afford it I would recommend an external GPU as you can get one for much cheeper than the one apple sells, but try a window and lowering graphics options first.
  11. I'm planning to become a bartender either way, so... why not?
  12. Anet should learn how to code in Metal. nVidia GeForce Now, may be interesting... Just playing in my Nintendo Switch... Smash Ultimate's Global Smash Power doesn't decay.Yeah, Anet... I'm a "low" PvP'er. Where's the VR version of GW2? May just download DIII [Diablo III] for Switch in weeks. Unix is better, stop with this deprecated way of coding spaghetti code.
  13. Anet, and others, will regret treating Unix users as second class citizens... when Microsoft's OS market share goes to less than 50%.
  14. MacOS has enough tools to check for 64 bit compatibility. 1)If you are running GW2, open Activity Monitor. On the CPU tab click on "type" column (you may need to add this column). This will order apps in 32 and 64 bit. Coherent Host UI is 32 bit and it opens only when GW2 is open. 2)menubar > apple logo > about this Mac > System ReportIn Software > Applications, order apps in the "64 bit" column. "Yes" means that they are 64 bit....Software > Classic Software also shows 32 bit apps.
  15. You can try this: 1) repairing permissions (there's a how-to, but I don't have the link)2) re-installing
  16. Did you tried opening GW2 directly from /Aplications? Are you on MacOS Catalina?
  17. & So, just to be clear: GW2 is playable on current Mac OS 10.14 Mojave, but NOT on beta pre-release Mac OS 10.15 Calalina? And is this because of the 32-bit Coherent UI compatibility with 64-bit only Catalina? Or, could there be something else with changes in still beta Catalina?I am just wondering that if it's the latter, then when official release of Catalina this fall, GW2 would eventually run properly again, or not at all. Deeper question is, should I get a new Mac now with Mojave, or later after Catalina is released and being pre-installed, in order to play GW2 on Mac?(Probably buy now than later, but just asking...) HELLO UP THERE!!! With Catalina, GW2 will not run at all on MacOS until Anet updates this Coherent UI process. I suggest get a Mac with Mojave and ignore the Catalina update (until Anet makes a fully 64-bit GW2).
  18. It's not up to Arenanet to open source that process because it doesn't belong to them. Coherent UI is created by Coherent Labs and is used for the Trading Post interface. Coherent Labs deprecated that dependancy and gave the source code to Anet... no idea if they also have a license to redistribute it.
