  1. I can't speak for necro, but for mesmer it's not a problem unless we're SPECIFICALLY talking about chronomancer; access to gravity well and CS does create a problematic amount of CC.

Source: I've been abusing this for the past 3 years, and it's more effective than it should. But in my defense, there's no way to land the super-telegraphed, clone-reliant, not-even-that-high damage from F1 unless your opponent is stunned.

if you're getting hit by Chilled to the bone or its derivative spectral walk - > Chilled to the bone,

Chilled to the bone is not really a problem. The problem is Chillblains with 1400 range 4s unblockable chilled, and if you dodge that there's spinal shivers with 900 range 5s chilled, and if you block that there's executioner's scythe with pulsing unblockable chilled for 4s, and if you block that there's well of darkness with pulsing chilled for 5s, and if you block that there's two traits in necromancer passively proccing chilled, and if you get hit by any of that there's chilling nova to give you 2s more chilled, and then there's a shout to make all of that unblockable and LISTEN I know you probably can't run all of these together, but for a laugh I tried running both Chronomancer and Rune of the Svanir, reapers were still able to stack chilled even with 25% of its intended duration, I think it's slightly excessive.

but how do your suggestions make it fun to fight a thief?

I'll get confused reacted to death for saying this, but specter has been the most fair thief spec to fight and I never felt cheated when I died against a specter.

    I know.

    But I'm right.

Remember that Anet backtracked on "mes shouldn't be able to play the game". Why would that be a suitable balancing direction for thief?

I'm biased sure, but every class needs to be able to play and be beaten.

Well this is a troll thread

Precog when the update comes out for it

Oh yeah, I totally forgot that. Once precog comes out, mesmer is DEFINITELY going to have more stab than guardian, on top of having a lot more utility and same healing numbers. Only thing guardians will have left are signets (but IoL partially covers that too) and a lot more cleanse... but people can bring their own cleanse, honestly. This is not a condi meta.

I acknowledge that Rifle may have some usefulness in PvE content, it's disheartening that WvW and PvP players have been largely neglected in terms of meaningful content additions.

All of this is false. Rifle mesmer is currently on par with firebrand when it comes to raw healing, it has less cleanse but a lot more utility (higher damage, alacrity or quickness, heavy CC with time warp\sword3\shield5\rifle4\gravity well\f3, easy access to res on rifle5\distort\cs,  and nearly perma chaos aura to spam team weakness\cripple). It works at any level of gameplay.

    - currently best support in slot for organized tournaments, competing with firebrand.
    - excellent for solo and duo queue at high level, Misha is currently plat3 with support rifle (should be rank1 in EU leaderboard, or something of the sorts)
    - good for solo and duo queue at pug level, I have used it several times and it works. For pug gameplay I think core guard is slightly better since it has nicer self survivability, but it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination

Hold your judgement until the MAT, but rifle mesmer is a great support and now it's mechanically sound.

An endangered animal charity collab with a few mount skins would probably 1) sell a few gems beause cutesy animals and 2) collect a fair amount of charity money because cutesy animals. Would gel well with the community of the game I'd wager.

    Rhino warclaw!

Tbh the mounts modeled after real-life animals are all extremely cool. There's a few of them (road runner\crane raptor, cuckoo springer, hummingbird\manatee\turtle skimmer, fox jackal, armadillo beetle, moth skyscale) and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM SLAPS.

  8. The skyscales you see in Amnytas are REALLY cool and I'd love to have it.
Wiki says it uses the Stormscale skin, but it's not entirely true. The glowing shader on the NPC's body is different from that of the mount (the one on the NPC covers the whole body, it's MUCH brighter and it's stylistically quite different); also, the mount's model can't tint the glow and the electric arcs indipendently, whereas the NPC can (the electric arcs are blue, the glow is yellow)

There was a lot of time of no damage for this video, and the scraping noises of the axes make it easy to tell when one is setting up.  The burst wrapping around pillars is silly, but would you rather all those axe throws just be obstructed?

I'm 90% positives thieves have faster ways to set it up, I've seen them pulling it off in real matches, but I have no clue as to how they did it. Honestly the only way to make this feature work fairly for all parts intended is to have these axes work like Hunter's Call, throw an axe, if it connects you're haunted by that axe and it always lingers on you until thief decides to call it back.

I like the idea of mesmer rifle 5, promoting team work, but its mesmer. A lot of ranged support, pluss good melee range mitigation, I guess its going to be an annoying or even better virsion of staff tempest

Unlike staff tempest, it struggles with cleansing (especially since the recent rework; you can't take both cleanse on signet of midnight + cleanse on shatter). Bring a necromancer with some chilled and make them MAD.

Portal on weapon 5 is an added bonus, that skill is an 8-second resistance (with 100% boon duration) and over 4.5k barrier on 20-second cooldown

Basically, this. The portal is a nice trick for super organized teamplay, in every other instance you're just using skill5 for barriering your teammates and it honestly works really well.

The weapon now feels super easy to use, you get to spam a lot of healing as a support mesmer, and it looks really good in pvp

    - Need to resustain your teammates and have a bit of time to do that? Press your healing skill, drop 8k AoE healing. Mantra of recovery + restorative mantras + relic of the flock: 8k AoE heal in PvP, from ONE button
    - Need to resustain your teammates RIGHT NOW? Rifle 2 + rifle3 is 5.5k burst healing in less than a second. You can also instacast the mantra on top of that, if you really need it. Rifle2 and rifle3 can also give some 9s regeneration, because why not.
    - Need to resustain your allies on a sluggish fight? Rifle AA and regeneration is 700 HPS for free, while you wait for something to happen. And you proc regeneration pretty much all the time; rifle2 gives it, but you also have all the regen procs from chaos (AoE regen on healing skill, AoE regen when you grant chaos aura with rifle3 and F2, then chaos aura itself randomly grants regeneration on hit).
    - Need EVEN FASTER survivability for your teammates? Rifle5 is 3k barrier AoE, everyone will be happy. I have yet to see anyone using the portal, I have yet to see anyone complain for the fat barrier.

Individual skills don't feel mesmer at all, but they create a gameplay which actually resembles what you'd usually do as a roaming mesmer; you stay at range and poke for damage healing for as long as you can, when it's time for a burst of damage healing+boons you jump in the thick of the action, quickly get your task done, then back at range again, as you still don't have the tools to survive at melee range in a teamfight.

The weapon itself doesn't have much survivability (like a support should be; if you're focused, you go down). This creates a support which is not the copy paste of guardian; it works really well on some maps (Skyhammer, where you have a lot of kiting spots from range) and fail miserably on others (Djin Dominion, mid node has plenty of walls to prevent ranged fighters from doing their thing). It also has counterplay, since rifle mesmer really lacks in the cleanse department, so condition-heavy comps have a change to shine. On top of rifle being very good and easy to use, you get all the other various mesmer shenanigans (Feedback and IoL for resses, mass invis for peeling, grav well for the CC, well of precognition for aegis). I don't know if it can compete with guardian (which features just as impressive healing and even better self survivability when focused), but the build is fun and it works. The numbers themselves are massive.

EDIT: the whole thing I said about being weak to focus goes down the drain. I was playing with staff, saw Misha playing with sword\shield and neutering every burst. Never thought I'd see the day I'd say "support mesmer is meta", but here we are.

  12. No and no.

For LoS: Blink-like ports allow more freedom, thus require LoS. Targeted ports lose that kind of freedom, and get to bypass LoS in exchange for that.
For cast time: Giving cast time to instant some ports will destroy them, as we've seen with Unnatural Traversal. Phase Traversal has a cast time, ok, but it also gives quickness and unblockable; it totally needs a way to react to the incoming nuke. The other ports, on the other hand, are instacast but don't allow by themselves the effects to instanuke someone (Judge Intervention had maybe 10 damage, Illusionary Ambush gives you an ambush skill... but all ambush skills are very telegraphed, even assuming you're ported to a place with LoS to your target)

@Terrorhuz.4695 Do you see this storm on the horizon

I don't see it being all that effective on power mirage, IH is funnier and EM is better.

Bunker mirage, however? Chaos was super buffed some patches ago, dueling gets much more vigor, new gm trait to spam ambushes too. Mesmer rants are incoming. This once I'd be inclined to agree.

After all, downs are the only thing getting hit by the full channel right?

More than that, I'm a fan of whacky effects with skills rewarding some particular kind of use. Unrooting the skill would be a good call to make it playable, and I'm all for it, but what after that? It's just a press-button-do-damage skill. Unroot it, by all means, but then give it something different, maybe every hit that lands recharges 0.75s cd on arching slice, I don't know, give us fun interactions.

There's no BUT to it. You listed Crashing Courage as a similar defensive skill when it's so vastly inferior it's laughable. One unblockable or Boon rip and Courage is largely negated, and it also does not stop conditions, rather is traited for resolution.

"Vastly inferior", when talking about a free port with 3-4k damage, AoE stab\stunbreak, is debatable. But that's besides the point: when a willbender goes F3 I don't start throwing kitten hoping I hit the stab; I'm forced to defend. For all intents and purposes, I don't get to counterpressure a willbender when they're on the offensive. I can't counterattack while willbenders use F3, and neither should you.

You can argue it's healthy but I cannot disagree more. Long Cooldowns exist on every class and Distortion isn't even harsh; Renewed Focus is a much better comparison and is 105/90 in PvP/WvW, and it's a channeled invuln that isn't usable while CC'd unless you trait for it in Dragonhunter.

Guardians have many defensive options even while traiting offensively. Mesmers get Distortion for free, but that's pretty much all they get if they want to trait offensively.

    1 hour ago, CutesySylveon.8290 said:

Signet of Illusions is also only 60 seconds, so you're not just dealing with one Distortion every 50 seconds, you're dealing with 2 every 60 seconds if you even needed that much. Blurred Inscriptions gives you access to a lot of extra Distortion and one of them is instant cast, which basically makes it a mini F4 in that you can be as reactive as you want with it

    AS I MENTIONED

You can and should remove Blurred Inscriptions, you can and should rework Signet of Illusions so it doesn't refund the entirety of Distortion, you can and should call for virtuoso to lose Distortion in favor of the original iteration of Bladeturn Requiem, and I'm an advocate for making Distortion channeled on chronomancer.

    And lastly

If people have to live with such a powerful effect existing with no counterplay possibilities, then Mesmer not only gets to exist with the negative sentiment of having such a busted skill, but also the rest of the class being subpar or improperly balanced because you also carry the best defensive skill in the game that shackles the rest of it.

The counterplay is forcing distortion, then killing the mesmer. Just like every class works: you force the defensive, then kill.

Yes I target the wurms under the map because I use autotargeting like a noob. No other map has this though so I think its fair to remove them. You can tell me to git gud if you want XD

Autotargeting ignores them, you are purposefully targeting them 😐
