It isn't a very good video - for sure.
But basing your opinion on something you haven't tried for the way you assume it could be is intellectually incompetent.
Players know exactly what they like or dislike in the first few seconds of watching stuff.. Its called past experiences.

Living Story 2 - chasing that moronic Sylvari..
EoD was bad but nothing was worse than LS2 for me.

Does no one else see the Eye of Sauron in that trailer? Is LOTR going to sue Anet?
8 hours ago, Pirana.2601 said:Just 'borrow' RIFT's entire system, it was one of the best things about that game. This way, it puts the final nail in the coffin for that game. lol
Man i'd completely forgotten about Rifts.. such a great mmorpg.
1 hour ago, Lord Trejgon.2809 said:I must agree that the trailer is composed in a way that makes whole thing look bad. I could see what they could be trying to go for with it, but the execution is still... not good.
The whole make-up of the trailer is the spinny animation (subjective opinion: I think the way the hand moves during this animation looks weird), a wide shot of skyscale travel, the rift visual very similar to the ones we've already seen previously, another spinny animation, one mob being killed, eye of sauron pops up from the rift, another spinny animation, eye of sauron dies, spinny animation, and off we go.
all to display system that was described as:
track down a rift, expose a rift, fight waves of enemies, kill the boss that spawns afterwards, rip rewards, rinse and repeat for as long as you like.
So the trailer already failed to show rift mechanics of fighting through waves of enemies properly, failed to showcase any boss encounter, and consists of alot of repetition of same animation.
Now about arguments trying to defend this trailer:
1. If this trailer is representative of t1 rifts, than the bar for "needs to be soloable" is somehow ridiculously low in devs minds, it would also make me avoid t1 rifts myself.2. cutting out most of the fight to avoid spoilers - outside of the good old "what the heck is there to spoil in a rift fights?" - if for some reason your trailer cannot show the meat of your new feature in a way that encourages players to actually engage with that new feature, then you should not do that trailer in the first place.
And yeah I guess it does showcase decently the on-demand and straight forward nature of the feature, but it undermines that "success" with making the feature look very bad in the process 😕
Sounds just like the old rifts no one bothers with in Tyria already, almost exactly.

Why would you do something you don't enjoy? I don't get modern gamers at all. Don't you realise your time is important? If you don't like doing whatever it is you are doing in game RIGHT NOW, then stop! The ends do not justify the means, you shouldn't 'grind to get to the good bits'. In that regard, I don't care that it will be easier to get the Skyscale soon. I got it after finishing the 'return to' stuff (easily the most fun I have had in this game, especially compared to the utterly wretched story in Cantha) and it was pretty fun to explore for the collections. Unfortunately right now by the same token, there isn't much for me to do in game. I don't fancy the teenage angst type writing in EoD, so I have moved on to more engaging games for now.
Mostly use it because modern content is keyed to using it.. If you don't you can't keep up.

i havent played in a year, but when i did play people never talked at all. i was doing t4 fractals. so unless you did something to make the team mad, most people wont say anything
Same with most guilds these days, malware infested Discord ruined them.

The GW2 community is significantly nicer than other mmo’s… It’s true…
And there are tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of players who are really hyped for Soto. Many loved EOD as well.
But these players often stay silent because the forums, Reddit, YouTube = full of angry, mean people, who insult and bully anyone who likes the game.
So Anet, please know a lot of us are excited!! And we love what you do!!
That really relates to everything though

When can we expect a Core story update? Overall, the story isn't bad. It's the implementation that's severely lacking. After recently completing it, I feel it's fair to say why it's a poor introduction to the game by today's standards.
1. There's too many cutscenes. Very few can be skipped. In fact, if you cut out every single cutscene, the story would drastically improve. This is because the majority of these cutscenes are just "fly bys" with the camera, as NPCs clip through terrain and fall through the world/run through walls to reach their next position.
2. It utilizes the old dialogue menu at least 3 times per mission. You know, the cutscene where your character sits on one side of the screen, and the NPC you're talking to sits on the other. This is poorly done compared to today's standards, where most NPCs simply talk to you in-world.
3. The difficulty has not scaled at all with the changes over the years. It's too easy, even for incredibly new players.
4. The final few chapters are a SLOG to get through. The battle with Zaitain (Zhaitan? Zha... whatever.) Is incredibly anti-climatic, and I dozed off at one point when manning the canons.
Like, if you just removed the cutscenes and had the NPCs talk entirely in-world, not only would this speed up the process dramatically, but it would improve the entire experience. It really just needs some trimming and small changes here and there to really improve this story. Also, speeding up the Trehearne bits by about 50% overall would really make the core game something worth playing.
Actually a core story rework would be awesome, it could be changed to add new races and race changes.
A complete overhaul i'd pay for if it meant the above was possible.

I only just finished my legendary masteries last week.. I'm not sure how many years they have been in game.. That said i'm waiting on SoTO legendary armors.. to see how crazy they are to deal with.
I found it easier to just buy my legendary weapons. i've bought 5? now.

As for Rift events, they already have been in the game for years, so I assume this will be mostly a recycling of the mechanic:
They were such a pain in the butt those things..
Solo they were a death sentence..
Newbies would get massacred..
No loot..

Well. The Dwarves we knew about got stoned. The ones up in the Shiverpeaks. Doesn't mean there couldn't be more Dwarves out there somewhere, living their best lives in some as yet unexplored (by the players) region of our beloved Tyria. Or that Dwarves from (lightning/thunder) SOMEWHERE ELSE couldn't make their way here. Like that other invasive species -- humans -- did, once upon a time. For that matter, there's not one single rock solid reason ELVES couldn't turn up in Tyria. A couple keystrokes, boom. Elves! Been here all along! We just never knew. Maybe some of those folks running around with elf ears aren't wearing prosthetics, after all. 🧝♂️ 🧝♀️ Heck, I'd play one.
Even a race of friendly little ponies could magically appear some day . . .
Agreed there could be huntreds of Asura Ratas, Sylvari Trees and underground Dwarven colonies as well. Tyria has huge parts of their world still undiscovered.. And zero seen underground.
Friendly Centaur ponies lol Anet doesn't even need to code pants lol
Not to mention they could add in time travel, multiverses and more, they've already used both in the early Asura stories.

LIke I said, my personal friend was told the same thing three years ago in Melbourne. I'm not saying he didn't say it to you. I'm saying it turned out not to be true. It's not like I'm accusing you of lying. It just seems weird for management of a company to tell people that they're discontinuing an item that no one is apparently buying, unless someone asked about it.
Maybe i thought it was odd he even knew what the cards were most staff don't even have a clue they exist these days 😂

Curious how many would stop caring if Zojja wasn't voiced by Felicia Day. Honestly, never found Zojja that interesting, just conspicuously absent compared to others.
I like Felicia Day a lot but if Zojja was re-voiced i'd still love her, shes literally the first main Asura you meet at the beginning of the Asura life story. And to me she was pretty great.

I just went to my regular Eb Games, bought game cards and talked to the manager. He had no idea what I was talking about. I actually went as soon as you said it, because if it was true, I was going to stock up. It still might be, so I bought extra cards for me and my wife. We have enough to last us a year now. But I'll keep checking. I'm simply stating fact. A guy in a store, told a guy in my guild exactly that, 3 years ago. In fact, there's even a post about it, if you do a search that's 3 years old. But those cards did come back.
I stocked up myself what i could afford, he actually told me as i was buying their last few. He said get them while you can news from head office was they've been discontinued so if you need gem cards grab what you can as they are the last of them.. His words not mine.
You could ring Clifford gardens in Toowoomba Qld if you want it word of mouth, that's where i was told.
