  1. Well, I was already not that hyped for 6 out of the 9 weapons coming out because they just are not my preference, but since I am a gun lover, I have loved what they have done with Guardian p/p, ele pistol, and mesmer rifle. I can't wait to play those. I am excited for it.

From their video and description,  elem seems pretty selfish.

The data from gw2wingman show that this class is the least play in Raids, Fractals and Strikes since the balance patch of september 2023. I think it will be worth  soon if we don't give almost any boons to our party

Oh, and it's me, or in the video, 1 skill use the four bullets ? (0.13 s in the video)

What's wrong with being a selfish DPS? Not everyone wants to boon share when they play games. Some people like me are happy it is basically a pure dps with the optional defense choices just for us. Too many people now are screaming bloody murder for support when it is not needed all the time for builds. It is ok to be a selfish dps. If people want to be support or share some stuff, then I say just play another spec or build or weapon and leave the gun alone.

Interesting, I was not aware of those since my knowledge is mostly on European history and warfare. But the fact it had to use gunpowder means it is more of a Engi weapon then an Ele one according to some people's logic on why they can't use guns. They basically had to use a gunpowder explosion to achieve it means that it is not really "magical". So, people who are against guns because they don't fit the theme should also be against fire arrows as well then because it is just a basic rocket/gun which is the same reason they hate pistols.

So, at the end of the day, magic enhancing arrows is the concept as magic enhancing bullets with its concept. Meaning, some people just don't like guns which is ok, but it doesn't mean everything or anyone has to follow that rule when it comes to settings including Fantasy.

fire arrows you mean the thing that has existed pretty much since bows have existed in real life? oof man... big oof...

because it's clearly visible in the video?...

that's exactly the point... guns do not belong in fantasy, they make every other weapon obsolete... if one army has guns and the other swords and arrows, the one with guns will always win proven by our entire history... imagine legolas had a gun instead of a bow in lord of the rings, he would have killed gandalf instead of gandalf parrying the arrow... bows fit in a fantasy world and that's a fact...

but other than that it just feels more correct to add a 1500 range weapon to ele, one that we don't have, instead of ANOTHER 900 range weapon, as the one we already have... on top of all the reasons i already listed why pistol and scepter will have a hard time against one another and ele will most likely just suffer from the clash...

i understand the premise, i just don't like neither the thematic feel of a gun in fantasy nor how it will butt heads with scepter, this was clearly the wrong decision again by anet (what a shocker...) but it's done so whatever...

you are confusing cocky with confident... i have confused nothing and there are no objective facts here other than what i have stated... hate me if you will, you will not be the first nor the last one but what i have said here is nothing but truth...

Actually, fire arrows are more a Hollywood  thing than a historical thing because of the nature of arrows and putting the fire out. It requires a certain chemical mix which can only really be done with modern materials to make a real fire arrow. In history, most arrows were just normal war arrows with the different tips and shaft strength. Nothing fancy about it in a magic or chemical sense.

But it is ok to not like guns in fantasy settings. People are entitled to think whatever they want about it. Just like how there are people like me who love guns in fantasy settings because fantasy can take many forms. Plus. Gw2 is not pure 100% LOTR level of fantasy. There is steampunk, magic tech, medieval and probably many other themes mixed into the game, so Elementalist shooting a gun makes perfect sense in this universe just like how it makes sense for mesmer and necro to shoot guns too. Again, you can dislike it all you want, and as you said it is already here. I just wanted to clarify about the fire arrow thing since in old warfare it wasn't really a thing. And if it was(not to my knowledge), it was not a big part of most timeframes. Unlike guns which did exist in medieval times and were used my knights and warriors. Albeit in a different form then we know.

  5.      Well, I am neither happy for it nor am I sad. I am overall neutral on the weapon because I didn't care for it from the start. My main interest for weapon types in games are guns and rapiers, and engi already had those options for me already. So there is not much they could do that would make me interested in a new weapon for them because engi already has dual pistols which I adore for my condi builds. Overall, I am ok it exits /10 for it.

how did you people even forgive and forget mountgate lmao

wp with a maxed account convinced you its a cute little long term goal to spend gold on and vote with your wallet haha there are so many things completely and utterly kittened for the game and they will do nothing unless a person with any value and reach like preach comes and is exposed to it and covers it

I was against mount gate because they did not give any other pick your mount option besides rng when it first came out. They quickly released a pick your mount option for it which is what most were asking for, so yes, I did forgive them for that because they fixed it in the end. Overall, I am not that mad at them even more because that is a waste of time and energy. I have more important things in my life to worry about. So, if you don't like something, then just don't buy it. It is that simple of a concept. And if people buy into something you dislike and it becomes popular, then I say oh well. It stinks to be you, but that is how life goes. No point complaining about stuff you can't change.

Ele currently sits below a 5% combined play rate (according to wingman stats) - the lowest of any class.  This despite having the current top DPS benchmark along with two other builds listed in the top 10 on snowcrows.

I don't see that low play rate as a bad thing to be honest. It just means the class is not for everyone which I am ok with. Not every class has to be popular. So, if the balancing rate of average to hard core sweaters was made better with better dps I would be ok with that. I say let the hardcore do 5k more while the average does more in general. I doubt the play rate would change that much from now. (Not going after you with the rest of the comment. Only the first line was directed at your response.)

I'm not american, so even the concept of guns at all in a fantasy game is a turnoff for me. guns on an engineer? fine. guns on an ele? just no.

Well, I will just say Spellslingers have existed in media for awhile now. The concept is the same for any other weapon really. The only difference is that the focus of object this time is a pistol instead of a boring melee weapon which we have enough of for ele.

I'm sure it's a combination of factors.  Condi sword was meta for a long time, so the priority was on elevating other specs.  Player feedback suggests that a lot of players want more ranged options, so having scepter as a meta option was a good call.  It just doesn't make a lot of sense when you compare the relatively easier and more versatile ranged build to its weaker and more limited melee counterparts.

The frustrating part for me is all the buffs to power sword.  While deserved, it seems to me it would have been easy to throw some condi buffs in there at the same time.  Would it have killed them to make a weapon that is equally strong as either condi or power?

I think the issue is that it would potentially overpower condi scepter if buffed too much making it meta again. And as we know, balancing is hard enough as is, so making both sword and scepter equal in damage would be nearly impossible to do, so it makes sense with the approach they have taken. It is easier to balance with sword is power and scepter is condi for the sake of simplicity of balance while allowing both weapons to be used still as a whole. It is the lesser of two evils compared to trying to make sword condi work again while not outshining scepter.

what is the right way to play tho?

ok, so the "right way" then would be to try infinitely harder than most other prof/spec by mastering every encounter like its darn dark souls. but what if, so to speak, your group is not exactly keen on providing you all the learning opportunity, for they just want to beat content at hand? again, most specs can do without as extensive experience, so why you then think its alright to bring in your weaver for example?

that aside, jumping through all the hoops, you will only accomplish... what exactly? by all means, its either basically the exact same playing field as most other professions, like in terms of golem dps top 25 of snocrows is literally all within 3%, or strictly worse in other areas, like boon provision/uptime, general squishiness, no weaponswap, dps loss due to absolute reliance on many persisting aoes, with a bunch of forced movement if using sword.

once you do indeed "master", you will just be on a decent level to compete with other professions without outright hindering the group you are in.

eles issues dont go anywhere because of your ability to somewhat play around them. its not that deep.

Well, all the stuff you mentioned are not issues in my opinion. Not everything has to be the same level easy as all the others. It's ok to have harder professions to play even if the damage is within 3% of each other. And for the group question, I say it is within my right to play weaver there. If they have a problem with it, I tell them to kitten off  and leave them and find another static who does accept my playstyle for what it is. I am not that weak willed to bend to the group that easily. There is always another group around the corner. So, again doesn't matter if it takes more dark souls work to master. As long as the person feels good about it, that is all that matters in the end because the damage is there.

  11. I'll just say there is nothing wrong with how elementalist plays. The reasons I love is because I don't have to weapon swap which is one of the reasons you listed on why you wanted to try it. It's the same reason I love Engi. Just not a huge weapon swap fan.

As for the rest, I don't think you were playing it right if I am to be honest. Scepter has been the condi weapon for awhile now on weaver, so of course the damage would be lower if you were trying it with the sword. That sword build is rarely used now for condi weaver because scepter is so much better. If you wanted to use the sword, you would need to play as power catalyst or power weaver which are both within the top 10 on Snowcrows. That is where sword shines now. It shines with power builds.

Yes, you would need to go full zerker which is ok with none of those trailblazers sets. Yes, you would die somewhat until you memorize the fights which is an ok thing. Elementalist and somewhat Holo are like playing Dark Souls. You have to know the enemies move sets to do well on them and succeed. You have to accept that you will die if you mess up. But once you master the Ele and Holo you will be doing a lot of damage to the enemy and bosses. They don't need to change anything because they are fine as they are. Making Elementalist like other professions would ruin its appeal in my opinion. It is the "Get Gud" profession after all.

To be honest I dont understand the argument that ranged weapons wont be played if they are weaker than melee.

So you are telling me that people wont use cvirt or scourge if they do like 35-36k dps when pure melee like bladesworn or weaver do 40k? You dont honestly believe that right? Rethink the new PvE endgame content and say that again.

Because they won't be played if they were weaker. A lot of people are like me, and they just follow Snowcrows, Hardstuck, or metabattle because it is the easiest thing to do. So, if ranged weapons got nerfed bad, the people there would switch it to a melee or remove the build altogether leaving people like me who don't mind playing the ranged weapons no meta build to follow.

The bigger issue isn't even the ranged part if I am to be honest. I will even admit most builds both melee and ranged are overperforming atm, so nerfing a pure dps build down to 35k would kill it at this moment when most are over 42k.

Just change pistol conditions to bleeding/poison or at least on #1, it will break the smash buttons synergy with  demonic lore.

Wouldn't that screw up though Harbinger in the process? You can't really change anything on the pistol without messing up Harbinger. You would need to need to change traits on the Harbi side as well to fix what you changed which may or may not work.

The mounts in GW2 are limited so that the open world lives on and the enemies on the map are a threat. It also forces you to explore the map which died when WoW put the flying mounts.

If you want to go far use Griffon, if you want to go short distances and up use Skyscale

I've played WoW for many years and the worst thing about WoW was adding the unlimited flying mount. He made open world exploration and challenge cease to exist.

Conclusion, the GW2 mounts are well made even the turtle although many hate it

Honestly, that is what made me quit WoW years ago is when they removed the unlimited flying and put it behind a kitten 6 month rep grind. I think them adding unlimited flying for cheap was one of the best decisions they have ever made. I love unlimited flying in games because I think it is a nice QoL that makes people explore more because it is easier to do.

As for the OP, I wouldn't mind them adding unlimited flying to the game, but it won't happen. Yes, there is the Griffon and all that as well, but kind of have to learn to make peace with the fact the GW2 mount system is not designed that way like it is with other MMOs even if it is my preferred flying mount system. I prefer QoL and ease of flying over more immersion stuff, but it is what it is.

No matter what it means for fighting, I dislike 'modern' weapons used by a fantasy character like elementalist. Not a fan of pistol or guns in fantasy games anyway.

Meanwhile I am always the type that loves modern weapons in Fantasy games because Fantasy can mean literally anything if you twist the world enough. So, I will always be asking for Guns in Fantasy worlds because I think they just fit better with magic and what you can do with it.

  16.      I am honestly happy with some of them while others don't make sense to me. Granted, I will say I am bias to guns more, but even in that bias I prefer pistols more even if rifles can work.(I just prefer the aesthetics of pistols more even if rifles are more effective because of the range.) So, for me this is just my take:

Guardians: I am loving the fact they get P/P, and I think it matches the holy warrior theme too. Times evolve along with weapons. If holy warriors existed today, you bet they would use guns as well. Just look at all the media with holy fighters using pistols, so for me, it makes sense to add P/P to Guardian.

Elementalist: Arcane Gunners exist in media as well, so adding pistol to Eles I am fine with because it matches the theme of them. I get why no dual pistols because of  Ele's innate attunement switching and the work involved.

Mesmer: I am 50/50 on the rifle. I would have preferred MH pistol instead, so I could P/P with their offhand as a Void Gunner.

Revenant: I don't play this one much, so I guess scepter is fine.

Warrior: I would have added a MH pistol just so I could P/P with their off-hand even if it is melee range.

Engineer: I don't care for bows that much to be honest, but I am not sure what they could have added, so it works I guess.

Thief: I would have preferred GS on them just to match anime themes more.

Necromancer: I would preferred off-hand pistol, so again I could P/P as a necro with Harbi's main hand pistol.

Ranger: I would have preferred Rifle to be honest because I think it fits them better.

Overall though as you can tell I prefer theme/Aesthetics over actual gameplay reasoning. Sure, they could have added off-hand warhorn or focus to some for functionality, but for me, that is a boring reason to do it. I just hope in time I will get what I want with the weapons being added each new expansion.

Just checking, would the first condition still apply if thief P/P was buffed?

Yes, it would. But that is not happening anyways since people have been asking for changes to it for ages, so I gave up on that one at this point. My only real hope for a good P/P profession without outside items(like the engi and kits which I do enjoy btw. It is just not a true P/P build) is in the new unlocks coming. So, I have a lot riding in hope on Guardian P/P being actually good for a full P/P.

  18.      Y'all are acting like we won't be getting a second pistol down the line. The chances of that happening are a lot higher than some of you think because a lot of these weapon ideas have been well received by the community. Yes, I would have preferred dual pistols as well, but it does take a lot of work to make an Ele weapon to start with due to the attunement nature and weaver compared to other professions getting weapons. So, their reasoning on why makes a lot of sense to me. This way it is set up to allow an off-hand pistol later with less work on their end. P/P will come in time.

People just need to be patient and be happy we are getting this at all. Because, yes I have always wanted pistol from the get go for my spellslinger feel. Having one pistol still matches that feel for me. If I could make Harbi work with one, I can make this work with one.

  19.      I will say this. I have more hope in Guardian getting good P/P than I do in most professions getting it. Yes, Guardian has gotten some nerfs, but overall it has been in an ok spot. And if anything, the P/P are already starting off in a better spot than the other two P/P the game has. Thief P/P has been a joke and a meme for a long time now, and it has been in need of a rework all that time. It took them years to fix Engi's P/P to finally make it in a good state to which people want to use it because it is actually good and fun to use compared to people using it because no other condi weapon really.

So, for Guardian, I am not worried at all that it will come out in a bad spot when it come comes due to Guardians track record. It has had more highs than lows. That is one of the big reasons I am excited for it because it means I can forget about Thief's P/P because those will always be more a meme and a joke with their pitiful damage.

  20.      I actually disagree here. The reason I say that is because if they stick with adding more core weapons to the game than I think it has a long life ahead of it. Core weapons being added means people won't get bored of combat as fast and finally get to play their fantasies out the way they wanted. For example, I have wanted pistol on Ele for a long time, and now that is finally happening I am excited. I can't wait until they add off hand pistol to it expansion later. I can't wait until they add main hand pistol to Mesmer eventually as well to fulfill all my dual wield pistol fantasies.

I couldn't care less to be honest about the map size anymore or the story. That is not why I play this game anymore. I play it for the fashion and combat. And as long as they keep adding new looks and adding core weapons I will be happy and content.
