but with the recent expansion I can't seem to keep myself from not dying and do "some" story missions because the kryptis just love showering me with conditions and I can't shake them all off

Well doesn't that make the pronouns even more important for those of us that project themselves onto their character?

That's a bit weird, isn't it? You've projected yourself on a character with a personality you have very little control over, but somehow maintain immersion, yet a 3rd party saying "They" instead of "he" will bring you out of it?

I do believe that the main character should represent the player. What's the point of character customization if that's not the case. And Arenanet pushing their own view on the main character is a step too far.

I've never had a character represent me. They are dolls to push around the gaming board.

The personality of the main character has been more or less set the entire GW2 experience. They are vocal and have a personality. The choices you can make are very few and, while it might impact parts of the story, does not change your characters personality at all. My Female Sylvari says, sounds, and does the exact same thing as your Female Sylvari.

But the point is its not an unknown im standing there right in the npcs face being introduced. They has always been used as a plural to a group of 2 or more people. If im being introduced to someone and im standing there and the person introduces me as a they, how awkward is that? I will  be looking around and asking the person...who are they? Its pretty obvious its a political move, and i hate real world politics in games. i play to escape the real world tyvm.

The actual context of my statement was about how singular They/Them is NOT broken English. It's standard and has been used in that way for literal centuries. You don't need to take my word for it; you have the entire internet to browse.

When games started letting you choose your gender, they used the singular they/them so the game wouldn't need to check your gender, nor would they need to spend time adding in more dialog just for gender. No one gave a flying fig newton. Most of us still don't give a flying fig newton.

When I say "unknown" I mean in a game setting, as it used to be. Back before anyone cared.

    I have two problems now:

    1. People are whining, in thread after thread, about how Anet is being cheap on everything EXCEPT this, which is somehow ONLY a political thing.

    2. The people quibbling over not using pronouns now because "Politics!" are opening the door for more than just he/she. What's good for the goose is good for the gander; If you get your pronouns, it's only fair that everyone gets their pronouns too.

The fantasy game is a fantasy. Any connection to the real world is irrelevant. Even if Anet wants to shoehorn in everything I am against politically... it's still just a fantasy and has no affect irl.

If an NPC refers to me with the pronoun They/them, I would assume it's plural and they are referring to either my group or someone else's group. I have no idea sadly.  I would have never guessed the NPC was referring to me specifically and that would be enough to break my immersion in a story. It's unexpected and no offense to non-binary people but, the way those pronouns are used sounds like broken English to me. It's really hard to enjoy a good story if the language feels unnatural to me personally... I was fine with YAO to be honest... because it's YAO... But my characters are not Yao and Yao is just one person who's like that so... whatever.

Singular they/them has often been used when a gender is unknown, since "it" refers to an object. At least since the 1800's, but probably longer. Many games used it prior to non-binary being a consideration.

  6. Viper's D/D Daredevil with Deadly and Shadow Arts.

I can spam 3, but usually I autoattack while weaving in Dagger 5 for Stealth/Leeching Venoms/Cleanse/Healing/Superspeed. Leaves enough Initiative to react to whatever is going on around me.

It's nice not being forced to choose between Stats and the set power. It's not nice if that gets achieved by:

    1. taking stuff away from you

    2. Not offering anything meaningful in return

I mean, i no longer feel forced to choose between stats and set power not because set power has been transferred to Relics, but because any set power i might have cared about has been outright deleted.

That's not a problem with the relic system itself, now is it?

Changes will always happen in MMOs. You'll be much happier if you change up what you are doing than if you just focus on what you lost, since it's not coming back anyway.

Arbitrary? Okay, WoW releases an expansion. You pay for it, you get the content. 3 months later it releases a patch with more content. Talk me through how you're playing that patch without paying a subscription. I'll wait.

The expansion gets you access to the content at the time the expansion drops. To play the later content, you have to have paid for the expansion but you ALSO need to be paying the ongoing subscription. So it isn't a valid analogy.

The people who don't buy the expansion still pay $15 per month. Get no expansion content 3 months later. Tell me how the people paying the subscription without the expansion are paying for expansion content. All players pay $15 per month regardless of content drops or which expansions they have. You are ignoring this portion entirely, which is why your disagreement is arbitrary.

Again: which games am I allowed to compare to Guild Wars 2? If you give me the list, we can have a discussion that actually goes somewhere.

You are paying a subscription fee for the ongoing content releases. It might be part of the expansion, but you aren't covering the entire cost with what you paid for the expansion. You can't compare the WoW model with GW2.

Subscription fees exist regardless of whether you buy the expansion or not, making that a rather weird argument. What games does Kranlor Greyhelm decide are acceptable to compare to Guild Wars 2?

That way I don't waste my time finding arguments that are just denied through rather arbitrary reasons?

Other games expansions certainly do -not- work like this. An expansion is a self contained content patch. It's released -in full-, from the moment it is paid for. This is not it. Everyone paid full price for 1/4 of an expansion, and the expectations that we'll get the rest of the content later.

Yes they do. You get the Expansion patch, then the content patches afterward that build upon the expansion.

When WoW releases an Expansion, you get a large amount of content. However, it's never ALL of the content. Future patches add more content that can only be accessed by the people who bought the expansion. Usually a Raid or two, maybe a dungeon, a new area filled with Dailies. It's all tied into the story they tell over the length of the expansion until they launch the next one.

Nope, not a bit. i created a post about that matter. Do check it if u want to. i also uploaded an imgae and which class would fit to be the martial class. [Image]

That image is a WoW Monk.

  12. I'd focus on the profession mechanics that you enjoy playing with. All professions can solo and support groups.

I enjoy Thief the most. High mobility, stealth, and the initiative system make me feel like I always have the option to change my strategy on the fly.

Currently trying to work through Elementalist. I understand the concepts. It just feels clunky, likely due to Attunements being the opposite of Thief initiative skills. I'll "get it" one of these days and then all those shiny skill animations will be mine.

Just list a LFG that you need help doing strike for mount. People will assist. It may not be the perfect group but after some tries, it usually gets done.

This. My first and only Strike was for the turtle. Failed a few times, but we got it eventually with a bunch of player corpses lying around.

Are they saying that they are pro-P2W and that they want to break other gaming markets of their prejudice against this element of Korean games?

No, I think they are saying they want to break the stereotype view of Korean games being Pay to Win. I believe their system will likely be similar to Guild Wars 2, since it walks the fine line with its Gem - Gold conversion.

not counting the outfits and keeping in mind that you can only wear 1 weight class, it's actually no more that 84 armor sets.

    hardly the hundreds you mention.

but even with all that, about 90% isn't even guild wars worthy.

i take the original GW armors over anything GW2 by miles.

Since we are nit picking, he said skins, not complete armor sets of a specific weight class.

Many skins I'll think "who would wear such an ugly..." then eventually come around to finding a decent look for it.

So funny to read all those "but but but u gotta earn it!" comments. And by earn you mean, wait 3 weeks. OK. I'll tell that to whatever person is trying to follow a map tag without skyscale, while 90% of the squad is on skyscale.

I only got Skyscale after Turtle. Prior to that, I simply followed along with Raptor, Springer, and Glider. Borrowed the Rent-a-scales in Dragonfall. It became even easier with the Jade Bot Glider Boost. Never felt the need for Skyscale, so I didn't bother. Only reason I have it and Griffon now is because I finally decided to get all the mounts.

  17. Many of us have level 80 Guardians and Necromancers as nothing more than character select decorations. I really love how my Guardian looks, but even Willbender feels like rigor mortis after playing Thief.

I could play the "Meta" classes but my skill isn't meta level anyway.

Warrior definitely needs love though. It's far too bland to even be called the ugly duckling of Anet.
