For some reason resummon don't count just the initial cast, but maybe they changed it without telling us.

    As per the wiki article:

    Quote

Heals the mesmer and 4 allies near the mesmer each time a clone or phantasm is created. Clones that appear from phantasms will also trigger the heal.

This means  Chronophantasmacan cause a single phantasm to active this trait 3 times.

How does Virt do better with multiple enemies?

With the exception of Bladesong Dissonance (without Master of Fragmentation) and Bladesong Distortion, weapon, utility and profession skills for Virtuoso are 5 target.  Even the AA chain is 5 target.

As Virtuoso skills are all multi-target you are doing the same damage to the first target as the second to fifth target in most cases.  If you are running the Condi variant, then every additional target you stack bleed on triggers the blade stocking mechanism.  This increases the opportunity for DPS the more enemies you face and essentially makes you stronger if you are facing more enemies.

Using the Jade Tech Protocols I have found it really easy to chain pull mobs in Open World and make them melt.  Combined with player positioning you can abuse NPC pathing to force mobs into clumps to take advantage of the AoE and piercing you have access to.

Again, this isn't incredibly engaging gameplay as every combat is basically the same, even when pushing the envelope of what a Virtuoso can do.

  3. Okay so, loaded question of course, because 'enjoyable' is subjective.  I was considering doing a 1 year review of Virtuoso but given that I don't care about logging into GW2 the last few months, not much point in it.

I have played Condi Virtuoso in Instanced and Open World content even soloing some Champ Bounties.  It is no where near as enjoyable or as powerful as Chrono prior to EoD launch (yes Virt does more DPS, but Chrono can simply do far more in a wider range of situations, that's power).  Chrono has been so poor since EoD that I have considered it basically unplayable (although it is slowly getting better).  Stuck with Virtuoso being the most cohesive mesmer eSpec to play, I enjoyed it for a month but there is no skill involved once you understand what to do.  To quote myself from the Virtuoso Beta "Count to 5, dump daggers, repeat".

So is Virtuoso enjoyable, not really, but it has been at least for me the most reliable Mesmer eSpec since EoD.  It is actually pretty boring when compared to other profession eSpecs, as you are basically a one trick pony.  I've dabbled with most of the other profession eSpecs over the past year, and I would say that there are a number of more enjoyable play styles than that of Virtuoso.

    True but isn't that same.

2v1 is definitely the same as 1v1 lolol.

One shot builds imply you are soloing a single player from 100 to 0 health in a couple of seconds or less.  Two people locking down one player and the second finishing them off is not the same thing. At all. Ever.

I am sure you and your partner have a lot of fun and success in competitive modes as a duo. I don’t want to take away the enjoyment of what you are doing, but factually in the context of what we are talking about that isn’t the same thing.

  5. All the lols. Anet devs decide to mess with Mantras twice to improve FB QoL and both times Mesmers get shafted.  There was no reason to make these changes either time as we can see, Mantras are not really playable in either iteration. Or rather, many players have issues using mantras effectively and thereby don’t use them.

I have no faith Anet will do anything to improve Mesmer mantras unless it is piggy backed onto FB QoL again.

  6. Why Seize the Moment over Chronophantasma?  For a phantasm focused build it seems like a sure fit. Does the Quickness make up for the DPS difference?

Also no off set?  Scepter/Shield is a great pairing for Condi Chrono with Staff.  Scepter AA is a very strong Clone generator and the blocks are very useful.

I’m also a fan of Improved Alac over Illusionary Reversion. Having skills that generate clones and phantasms up more often feels like better value than adding an additional clone on shatter.   This the gets into changing out a couple of Signets for Wells and perhaps skews the build to far from where you started but it’s the approach I tend to take.

As opposed to Mechanist stacking or Ele stacking now?

That's ok, that doesn't need a nerf, but we did apparently...

If I recall correctly, it was within a few months of 10 Chrono nerf that Anet stated they would ‘stop balancing based upon niche play patterns’.   The reality of a lot of niche play is it required either very specific setups or highly skilled players and Anet realized that they did more damage trying to fix what a small number of players were doing.

But as is all things Anet and Mesmer, they really never walked back the Chrono changes (although they did just rebuff Chronophantasma again).

Back at that Chrono nerf, I remember the devs saying raiding was becoming ‘throw more Chronos at it’  as if that was the way raid groups were being built by the general squads.  If it wasn’t for the leaks I would have believed Anet was trying to do the right thing back then.  Now we know that was another sign of their prejudice towards the profession.

I am afraid to say anything more because I don't want to start any trouble though.

I’m not saying you won’t get in trouble but in the past few months people in the Mesmer community have tagged Anet staff members in posts talking about these discord leaks, about the prejudice the developers have for this profession, even calling for the removal of CMC and his staff.

These posts aren’t even deleted let alone the posters flagged or banned.  If the developers actually read these forums they do not care to do anything about these topics. It shows the lack of care when the developers are generally okay with letting a subset of their player base be this angry and or upset and say nothing.

    The silence is deafening.

  9. Bear in mind they haven't actually announced anything about a future expansion beyond "we are starting working on the next expansion" when they released EoD.  All this does is tell us that they are working towards future releases, still, but that nothing worth talking about has happened yet.

Until they actually announce a release date for a future expansion, all this talk of changes to how they make the game mean absolutely nothing to the players.  It's been a year since EoD and we are finally getting the follow up to it, and it sounds like they have set the expectation that there will be more than one EoD follow up release before they announce the next expansion.

Do we actually believe that they will wrap up the EoD content in 2023 and release a new expansion in 2024?  I for one do not.

However, that is a future problem, one for 2024 or 2025 (If I still care about this game then).  I am not going to worry about what the next expansion does or doesn't have until they put it in front of us to judge.  They have to earn the next dollar I spend with them and a feature light expansion will be a sure way to lose my money, and it appears, many others.

    Sorry Troll. Not buying it.

    (1) Sitting on a capture point alone does not count.

    (2) Playing in a pre-made team using discord to make call outs does not count.

I've had Me vs 2/3 wvw fights last where I could cast moa 3 times. Charging Mantras would be an insta death sentence.

I also know pvp. It is a whole different environment Than wvw.

    PLUS

    You outed yourself...

When you said "centaur runes. That isn't a solo "Roaming" rune. It is a rune used by someone who is in a planned party with specific builds/skills, communicating on something like discord, sharing buffs and more while callimg out skills/need for help/cc's with allies.

If you are going to try to Troll, at least make it sound reasonable.

Hey now let’s back up a second. Calling other players trolls who have years of experience next to your 4 months?  Calling people trolls who have actually used the old Mantras in competitive play?

Regardless of whether or not the 2+ second cast time to setup a Mantra is a good or bad thing, it has been used successfully by players in competitive modes for years. Many felt that the change 2 years ago was a net nerf to Mesmer Mantra playstyle. And we see less builds using modern Mantras vs the classic Mantras from 2 years ago.

And technically, while the Mantra trait is still nerfed (healing was reduced by 50% at the same time as the Mantra changes 2 years ago) they buffed todays change on some mantras with boons.

While I understand it seems like todays change is a net nerf to Mantra playstyle, I’d strongly suggest you actually play with the system and understand its value before calling experienced players trolls.

For a lot of people the new especs are the only reason to buy the expacs.

    You are absolutely correct.

Yet, many people are happy to play new stories and quest in new maps using their old eSpecs.  New stories and maps will have some development cost, but there is no maintenance cost.  eSpecs make up a huge amount of the maintenance upkeep for this game, as they are always working on more Profession Balancing, even for eSpecs 3 expansions ago, they are always being tweaked.

and I say this being a player who has enjoyed many different professions in this game as the combat system can be quite enjoyable, and am looking forward to whatever the next eSpecs might actually be.

    Relevant link here

    Relevant section for my question:

    What It Means for You

Our future expansions for Guild Wars 2 will be the backbone of this new approach. Rather than launching an expansion every two to four years with a season of Living World in between, we’ll be releasing smaller expansions more frequently at a slightly reduced price and adding additional content for those expansions through quarterly updates, meaning that the next big release is only ever a few months away.

The first release in an expansion cycle is the launch point for a new story arc, bringing with it two new open-world maps, two Strike Missions, new gameplay and combat features, new Masteries, and new rewards. In the following quarterly updates, we’ll add another open-world map, additional story chapters, challenge modes for the Strike Missions, a new fractal dungeon and challenge mode, new rewards, and additions to the new systems introduced in that expansion. Once that expansion’s story is complete, the next expansion will be just around the corner.

My question: I see no mention of new elite specs. but I do see "new gameplay and combat features."  Will future elite specs be added in with each expansion in the way that they have been? Or will the way professions evolve moving forward change?

I'd be okay if they focused on balancing the existing 27 eSpecs rather than adding another 9 to the mix.  I'd be okay if they focused on balancing all the professions before even looking at making new content.  But balancing eSpecs doesn't pay the bills, expansions do, and since it costs them money to fix the mistakes they have made with the eSpecs (how many hours of fixing did Catalyst need as example), I can definitely see them not adding new eSpecs in the future.

Preferably, and based upon how content releases have been handled the past 2 years, they would release new eSpecs separate from new Story content as they don't have enough Devs to do both.

  13. Studio Roadmap and Update

So we won't be getting another Living World, and we will be getting smaller Expansions?  And those smaller expansions will come with half the content day one and the other half 3-6 months down the line?  So what we are getting is a promise of less content that must be paid for and is delivered over the course of months or a year.

But you are promising new content?

I am somewhat torn about this announcement.  After EoD was released and it fell short of expectations set by HoT and PoF and then the past year of questionable profession updates, no new EoD related content, even considering how poorly IBS was completed, I have little desire to pre-pay for content for GW2.  This company should not be financially rewarded for putting forth a substandard effort.

Now, I won't be able to wait for the expansion to drop and decide if it is worth the investment, rather, I have to wait months to decide if the content is worth it.  And if the new content doesn't come with say, new eSpecs or other profession upgrades/changes, what would I be missing by not rushing into the new content?

Maybe this is a good change for the health of the game overall but, until Anet start putting out quality content releases that feel like good value, I will be skeptical that this is any better for the player base.

Ok, this has irked me a bit...

One of your systems is horribly and unfairly broken for years now, and we have been very vocal about how that system is affecting us negatively, and how compared to everyone else - we don't get the same treatment, we're treated like second class citizens, and that core system that everyone else has, but we don't, is just the proof of that.

    @Rubi Bayer.8493

Want to be player-centric, and understand the plights of the community?

We have told you what plagues us for years, and most recently, this thread served as kind of the amalgamation of everyone's frustration with our treatment. Not only is the second dodge not yet returned but no one even considered giving us an update, or even acknowledging our concenrs!

Are you saving the return of the dodge for a special surprise next patch?

Or why can't we have any sort of update on the myriad of problems that Mesmers face right now that are the consequence of years of class favoritism, lazy balance updates, and just balance teams hating on our profession (and again - there have been countless leaks on how professionals who are supposed to be impartial said some very unprofessional things about Mesmer class).

Why don't we deserve the same experience say, Catalyst is having right now? Or really, anyone else for that matter?

Why is our concern always ignored? Why is this still allowed to continue? We're also people, just like everyone else, we all bought the game and expansions, i think we deserve a fair treatment.

Is the second dodge return a surprise soon? Maybe February 14?

I'm ready to be surprised, please!

That roadmap preview was pretty garbage.

    • We know we don't have enough developers to create Living World and an Expansion.
    • We know we don't have enough developers to balance professions as well as improve QoL and invest into WvW and PvP
    • We aren't announcing adding more staff to GW2 Development
    • Goodbye LWS and hello to only paid content!  Buy an Expac, get half the content (2 maps at launch and half a story) and then potentially get more map/content releases later on, possibly every 3 months but....probably longer..
    • They do acknowledge adding new Strikes and Fractals, but not at what cadence or how many per 'content release'.  It could be one or two per year (likely) but they could do 1 per quarterly release (assuming they maintain the 3 month cycle).

    The part relevant to this thread however;

The next profession update is May 2nd (if they don't push it back as historically they tend to do).  We know that they are not going to make any changes to the patch notes for Feb 14th, so this is the Meta we have until May.  They have not teased or 'promised' any professions any kinds of updates since at least October (barring a handful of bug fixes) and probably before then.

So, like I have suggested several times since October, 'this is it'.  This is the world Mesmer players live within and it isn't changing in the next 3.5 months.

Fortunately, this announcement makes it a lot easier for me to just walk away knowing the only thing I might want to log in for is the new map/story on Feb 28th.  WvW reward changes doesn't make WvW more appealing to play, Chromium and DX11 updates really have no impact on me, SAB is a fine festival, I personally do not care for it at all though.  And of course, tomorrows patch doesn't move the needle on making Mesmer more effective or more enjoyable to play.

Honestly they should have spent more time hyping up the fact that there is new content coming in 2 weeks and less talking about the nonsense changes behind the scenes that ultimately are hot air until they actually have something to show for all the talk.

Mantra of distraction is literally the strongest interrupt tool in the game, but I guess that means nothing

I was going to reply something about current Mesmer players having never played with Mantras prior to the May 11 2021 patch....and I was re-reading the patch notes and man, did they eviscerate Chrono with that patch.  It was also when they reworked Chaos and gave Mirage Staff/Staff Alac.

Part of that patch was the healing from Restorative Mantras being nerfed by 50%, and I had forgotten that.  It is actually really disappointing to read old patch notes and see the BS they did to this profession (and others, we aren't the only emo kids here).

Anyway, this part I found interesting and, you guys might want to contextualize it against what they are telling us now, nearly 2 years later.

    Quote

    Mantras (Mesmer and Firebrand)

We acknowledge that there are significant flaws with the core gameplay innate to mantra skills, and that this problem was exacerbated in Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire™ when we switched mesmer mantras to an ammunition system, creating an incentive to not use the final charge. This is a poor user experience and something we have hoped for a long time to be able to come back and address.

Needing to prepare for combat by using a sequence of skills with a long casting time is not fun, and in most cases, using the final charge of a mantra in combat felt like a mistake. It not only denied your use of the skill for a long time, but it also required you to prepare your mantras again after the cooldown expired. Instead of being rewarding to use, mantras have been a chore; something you need to remember to do every time you change maps or respawn, or deal with after every /gg in a fractal, strike, or raid. Holding your group up while you again prepare each of your mantras never feels great either!

During the development of this balance patch, we tried several alternatives, including automatic preparation while out of combat. Ultimately, we found that the best course of action was to simplify the mantra skills and remove the preparation mechanic altogether, as this ensures that we can have consistent behavior between mesmer and firebrand mantras, as well as consistent core functionality between PvE and PvP game modes. As a result, in this balance update, we have decided to rework both mesmer and firebrand mantras into simple ammunition skills.

    What this means:

No more preparing mantras before use. They are always in the "ready" mode, storing up uses.

Firebrand mantras are no longer stronger on final charge. All uses are the same.

Mesmer mantras no longer do something on preparing.

Some related tuning and trait changes will happen as a result. While this results in a loss of some of the current flavor inherent to the mantra skill type, we have found that the ability to easily read, understand, and use these skills in normal gameplay is a strong improvement to the play experience.

ahhh what a trip down memory lane.

Jagged Mind needs to be PvE numbers everywhere and increase the healing from it to 10%. Remember mesmer has mostly torment and confusion so it doesn't actually heal a lot.

This trait is related to the Bleeding caused by blade crits. It does a huge amount of healing on full Condi Virtuoso. Would it be cool if it was buffed, sure, but in PvE increasing the heal is really not necessary.

I take it this is at least your third or maybe fifth year of playing GW2 if your concern is legendary weapons?

Or did you just enter WvW after a couple months expecting to get legendaries handed on a silver platter?

The complaint that it is hard to find people to play with is fair.   It sucks when you log into WvW during off hours to find yourself alone.  Or your on a low pop server that doesn’t represent in WvW.  Or you aren’t aware of what guilds run on your server.

It’s hard to learn to enjoy the game mode when all you do is die trying to find other people to roam or squad up with.  Is anyone surprised that PvE players go to WvW and have a hard time figuring it out?  Is anyone surprised that PvE players are salty about being forced into a PvP mode that regularly doesn’t have any sense of player balance?

I mean, talk down to the guy if you want but recognize that the ‘new to WvW player experience’ can be totally off putting when you are trying to figure it out alone and getting repeatedly killed.

  18. I know why we can’t/don’t have the ability to dye weapons. It’s also a low ROI for Anet to implement this. Probably 100 things better to invest time into for the devs.

But if they invested into making this happen I wouldn’t be disappointed.
