sPvP is not affected but WvW is tho.

yeah, but you can do WvW perfectly fine in exotic gear and stay a member of competitive group. There will never be a case where one dude who swiped carries whole fight. And in a number of other MMOs I played, that would be very much a fact. (For example, in now once again re-released and renamed for nth time Air rivals it was very much a case, where one player whom have swiped silly lot, was fully capable of wiping entire alliance force by himself, his gear was simply that much better)

But yea, like I said, the only saving grace for GW2 in this regard is the lack of vertical progression.

lack of vertical threadmill, gear progression with relatively low roof, no rng progression (+number enhancements of a gear with random chance of succeeding and losses on fail), there is a number of design elements that GW2 does not employ which makes it's monetization scheme fair (compared to alternatives on the market).

    28 minutes ago, DoomNexus.5324 said:

With "the most p2w mmo in existence" I meant by the design of monetization. There is indeed a big difference to actual p2w mmos as they keep players in a perpetual "grind or swipe" loop, which GW2 does/can not (unless they alienate their playerbase by introducing vertical progression).

There is nothing wrong with the design, issue comes with some of items available in gem store, and perhaps with which exact items can be bought off the tp, and which require additional game activity to complete. On a side note, the same mechanism that was the core of your complaint (swiping for gold) enables everything in the gem store to be obtainable with in-game gold for non-paying players.

But a lot of mmos get flamed for being p2w when they offer bag slots to better compensate all the unnecessary trash items, enhanced fast travel options, quick revives "on the spot" or virtually anything related to gear, near mandatory quality of life features, etc. The gw2 shop offers a "solution" to every of those problems and more. Of course things need to be put into perspective of how useful those things are for progression.

The main differences on those aspects, is that the non-paid options available within the game are already sufficient to deal with those problems. For grand most of my characters I am running on cheap set of 20 slot bags, and there is not that much of a difference between those, and those that I have stuffed with - obtained for free, through achievements - 24/28/32 slotters. In games where those complaints are risen, the systems are balanced in a way that it will be very hard to stay competitive against other players without swiping, if even possible.

ok, I got your point, but with that said, black desert is not p2w right? everything is grindable there

To those two I raise, the p2w tent - non-grindable and giving clear massive advantages over grindable equivalent (at a hungle pricetag of 40-50 Euro).

BDO in general is slightly different case all together, because it is built around concept of OW PvP over grindspots, so if one player has better gear, he is able to win this spot over lesser geared people, and therefore progress much faster, which compounds as to catch up, you'd need to somehow close that increasing gap in gear. For example by throwing more money at PA than the other dude.

So all these Gacha (mobile) games are not P2W?

You often have free trials and you can get the same Characters. It is just people can throw hundred of dollars to get them faster, same as hero points in GW2 now.

We don't have the same definition of P2W if it is not...

The issue with most Gacha games I saw, was not that you'd get some characters faster by swiping, but that the rng was tuned that unless you paid, and paid alot, you were virtually unable to pull the good characters from any event pull.

    1 hour ago, DoomNexus.5324 said:

Actually true. Objectively speaking GW2 is one of the most p2w mmos in existence.

Arguable. P2W as a term originated from games with heavy focus on PvP, and having your purchases affect that PvP scene. In case of gacha games, that heavy emphasis on competitiveness against other players is often made via utilization of leaderboards, where people whom paid, would rank higher than non-paying users by default.

In GW2, sPvP is not affected by no gem purchase you can make, there are no leaderboards to be chased where buying gems would get you an advantage, so in the grand picture, while you could argue that paying allows you to skip alot of the game, that skins are inconsequential. And the "most" p2w mmos in existance, have it much worse - because striaght power of one player vs other player is being a core principle of the game.

Now don't get me wrong yall, I am not thrilled by expac hero points in gem store, I just felt like addressing some outlier comments.

Wouldn't that be the part of the mission where it says "RUN AWAY !!" and endless waves of ennemies keep coming until you actually run away deeper inside the Fort ? Provide more details ty.

Everything in that first part of the story (Zaithan storyline) can be done solo (except the very last mission/dungeon), and it was made before Reaper even existed.

That is the one, where it is not that hard to just nuke all of the enemies, in the attack wave, only to have to retreat deeper into the fort because story said so 🙂

Also, Victory of Death has been updated some long time ago to be a soloable instance instead of story mode of dungeon. May be tougher on some classes than other, but did it solo on two characters without much problem.

So firstly, is this intentional? That the rng is weighted towards getting Sorrow? Because the other boss is a walk in the park in comparison.

Cannot say about intentionality, but I am getting way more sorrows than demon knights as well.

    6 hours ago, Molesworth.1684 said:

Secondly, after you pick up essences they seem to decay after a few seconds, certainly the bar vanishes.

The bar only shows for short period of time after pickup, but if you track your active effects, you will see the essence stacks there, continuing to be there. The only ways to loose them I am aware of is getting downed or handing them in. UI in here can be slightly misleading.

    6 hours ago, Molesworth.1684 said:

Another thing: I noticed when Zojja's health is low and you hand in essences, she seems to use them for the resurrection spell rather than healing herself.

    She does both independently.

But it's over a longer period?

Doesn't matter. Those handfull of the missing specials are by no means "a nerf to generating AA". Like sure, technically assuming they won't dump more specials at next periodic event like they did with halloween specials previous season, the total maximum AA generated within season will be slightly less. But it will still be way more than anyone is expected to need.

Why is this topic so aggro?

We had this functionality in GW1...called preparations:

Preparation - Guild Wars Wiki (GWW)

This is something I'd like to see return and we do have a single skill like it--sharpening stone.  It wouldn't have to be limited to bow type, just extra utility that could be slotted--obviously tuning it as 10 stacks of burning is far different than 10 stacks of bleed.

In fact, things like 'read the wind' were a far better solution than blanket quickness boon but that's an entirely different discussion lol.

Because OP did not suggest a preparation, OP suggested adding whole new weapon type, so he can have warrior bow (with it's relevant skills) on a ranger.

As for Preparations making a return - I am all for that, some of them were very fun skills to use.

What you're suggesting sounds like doubling up on a lot of armour skins to have a skirt/non-skirt version of each?

Only the "recent" bunch of series of "these are supposed to look identical on each weights, but split differently", and only for chestpiece and legpiece. So that all weights have "with skirt" and "with no skirt" on both leg and chestpiece. Such skin variant duplication unlocked by same item is not something unheard of - warlord and one of birthday armor sets helmets have a variant with the faceguard lowered and up, and some of VR thingies from the adventure box also come with on/off variants.

There are not that many of armor sets I am aware off that are supposed to look same on all weights, so the only issue I can see with that idea, is how much time would it take to produce all alternative variants, in particular I am unsure if AN can just "port" the existing already produced variants to other weight, or if they would need to redo the model for the other weights, since I have heard that different armor weights use different rigging (which in itself is source of alot of issues with GW2 fashion).

But if that proved t be unfeasible workload to do in the future, if the need for such action is signaled to AN enough, then at the very least when doing next such set then can make sure we get both variants of chest/legpiece from the get go.

Don't get me wrong, it can be annoying. For example I like how the chest piece looks for the rift hunter armour set on heavy and light, but if I want to wear it on medium it has the big furry barbarian loincloth/belt attached. Unfortunately because of how the majority of other (especially older) medium chests work, that is they are all trench coats, there would be massive ugly clipping issues if the fur belt piece was attached to the legs when worn with those pieces.

It sucks, but it's by design.

This thread was proposing to get both variants available on all armor weights, which would be clean solution the the problem don't you think? so we can all enjoy the variety of skirtless version on whichever the part, and then, if someone equipped trenchcoat chestpiece with skirt on legspiece, the clipping would be on that person.

  9. 5 hours ago, Remus Darkblight.1673 said:

I think it is for mixing and matching with other armour pieces. Almost all medium armour is some type of long coat and therefore most medium-only legs are some kind of trousers or leggings. If you had the skirt pieces of multi-weight armour attached to the legs on medium armour there would be horrendous clipping issues with many of the other long coat pieces.

Yeah but that means that if I were to combine, let's say, oneiros-spun legpiece and savage scale chestpiece, then despite both pieces belonging to "same on all weights" sets, the result will be drastically different between medium, and other armor classes. Works as well if you flip the sets around, oneiros-spun chestpiece and savage scale legs.

  10. If you could only ever afford single expansion out of everything in GW2 I would say SotO would be likely the best value for your money. It gives you access to skyscale, which is most convenient/versatile of mounts, you get access to all espec weapons regardless if you own relevant other expacs or not, you get access to all of stuff in wizard's vault. Between legendary starter kits and access to obsydian armor, you also gain access to alot of slots to complete legendary gear for at accessible pace.

  11. Wait you can actually shoot Ignaxxious from outside the arena with skyscale fireball? that sounds like one of those exploits people been doing in raids that got eventually patched out.

Trying to skyscale him from within the room is still subject to hide behind pillars mechanic since he can and will nuke people out of skyscales midair with that attack.

I do not recall doing dragonstorm or dragon's end since the update - the former was already a snoozefest when it comes to difficulty, the latter requires some minimal modicum of coordination to succed, and while we did see teapot clearing it in all the kind of meme compositions (all minionmancers for example) we did not see him even attempting to do skyscale only Soo-Won 🤔

It's a fair point. OTOH, Anet might think that with the Legendary Starter Kit now people need slightly less Clovers than before?

The kit does not contain any item requiring clovers for that to be possibility - for each kit you still need full 77 clovers to finish the legendary.

If kits were affecting need or demand for clovers, they would only increase the demand, because people stuck at other steps now get to actually get to the point where they need dem clovers for their legendary.

you are doing the same tbh. There's no reason to speculate any further, let's just wait and see.

How so? I only said I will be trying to make it work, and then opposed the notion that mainhand pistol is going to require offhand pistol as well to work. Called it terrible design because it would be a terrible design, and my disappointment in AN was unmeasurable if they designed it like that. Other than that, I do not recall stating anything that would not be refering to things explicitely stated in the content of the blogpost, and oposed other poster assuming that his vision is how it would be working. There is no assumption I have made in any of my post.

But you'll still be able to take those utilities with an Offhand pistol.

That is a fair notion. I guess we will see soon-ish enough how will it pan out in practice.

There is only a single skill that is missing from the description that you'll get with Pistol/Shield.

    That is correct.

    2 hours ago, Roadkizzle.2157 said:

Mainhand Pistol will be giving a big boost in damage to the multi attack Offhands that other weapons don't give.

That is something I would not be banking on until we see tooltips involved. AN have stated an intent of synergy there, but how well will that pan out in practical applications, we simply do not know yet.

    2 hours ago, Roadkizzle.2157 said:

Mainhand pistol MUST be lower damage than other weapons or there will be no reason to take the Axe for example.

Mainhand pistol should indeed have lower dps output than axe, mainly because it is ranged condi weapon vs melee condi weapon. It is supposed to have less dps in exchange for being able to apply that dps from further away. Not that AN has fantastic record of mantaining that balance throughout the game history, but I agree that this should be expected. I will still try to see if I can make pistol/shield work better than my axe/shield used currently. Maybe continue using both in the end just on the swaps. We shall see. I am not going to get dissuaded from trying to make it work before it goes properly live in next quarterly update 😉

So that means that you will only have Pistol 2 and the slow single shot auto attack to make use of the Symbol.

And all the utilites and whatever else I can bring with the build. description of the symbol does not state anything about weapon skill being requirement there, just that striking enemies within the symbol will cause symbol to burn them.

The animation does seem to be normal pistol animations... Which I think always feels very slow.

Ah I see, you meant casting speed not the projectile speed.

I am still thinking you are making too many assumptions on what little was shows in the blogpost (both in video and text)

Is there a reason why so many items are shorts on medium armor but the heavy and light variants turn into weird skirts? See: Sanctified Leggings and Foefire Legwraps for example.
Could you at least make the two variants available to all armor types?

    Thank you

The reason is that medium armor have those skirts attached to the chestpiece, and other armor weights attach it to the legpiece.

Now why AN decided that sets which are meant to be identical on all weights should have such discrepancy between them, that bit is beyond me. (I am all for all of such armor to get two skin alternatives unlocked for all weights.

Not sure if you worded the skill 3 projectilbehavior just strange and this is just a fire combofield with the additional effect that it will also pulse burn when comboed. Or all sort of projectils will inflict burn now.  I guess this will be just a combo field and we get some 100% projectil combo finishers.

All symbols to date are combo field: light, and I do not think this one will be any different. The description provided makes me think that it has a mechanic where striking foe that is inside the symbol with something else will cause symbol to give them burning, and projectiles specifically when shot through that symbol allow to carry out this burning proc to enemies beyond the symbol.

his view of the lore is incredibly twisted. I don't really know the angle he's going at, maybe powerscaling? But war has so many more contexts.

Yeah at this point it is very clear to me that this is that established world history clashes with OP's perception of the Kingdom of Orr, which notably strays from how lore represents it.
