  1. I'm most annoyed by how ridiculous the difference between female and male Norn is. You can make the male characters look like a yoga ball but the females all have to be nicely thin of course! Either allow players to make female Norn characters with Zarya-type butch physique, or synchronize the appearance of the male characters to the female variants so they look less like Santa Claus and more like a tall giant. No reason for the double standard, just seems like basic sexism.

And before someone starts insinuating things, I'm a thin straight guy who's quite fond of thin female characters, I just genuinely think that the double standard is unfair. ^^

  2. I found the trailer to be a bit underwhelming, to be honest, and difficult to understand, but here's my analysis after re-watching it carefully. I like the voice acting quite a bit on second reflection...

The trailer represents a conversation between two characters, female and male. The female voice is revealed to be Kuunavang by the male voice, and the male voice is then the mysterious new character mentioned by the developer on Twitter so we don't know who it is.

    Let's analyze the conversation itself.

Kuunavang:This land... it's a monument to mortal resilience. They built new lives upon the very thing that sought to end theirs.

Taking into account especially the intonation of the second sentence, in my opinion, she is expressing a great admiration and amazement towards mortals. She is greatly impressed, inspired, and sympathetic towards them.

Mysterious voice:Mortals are little flames -- brilliant, hot, then gone. Those who face eternity easily forget what a lifetime means. What an ending means.

While it sounds like this character is also inspired by mortals to some degree, towards the end it sounds like that in his opinion, mortals need to meet an end. Presumably not just a personal end, but an end to a whole era. He thinks that mortals, by their nature, ought to be destroyed and reborn. Presumably, this means completing the Elder Dragon wake/destroy/sleep cycle, i.e. the mysterious voice is of the opinion that the EDs should be helped in destroying the world, coz The Nature Of Things aka How I'ts Meant To Be.

Kuunavang:You know it doesn't have to be this way.

This further confirms that what the mysterious voice aims for is something which... the mortals would rather not want to happen. I.e. suffering, destruction, The End. Since Kuunavang is sympathetic towards them, she doesn't agree that this is how things ought to be.

Mysterious voice:No Kuunavang, it does. They need me.

His voice is very decided. He is convinced that "helping" mortals meet their end is the right thing to do. That they need this. It's a bit like when a parent physically punishes their child and defends it by saying "the kid needs that to grow up to be a disciplined person" or something, you know?

That being said, the mysterious voice is also rather calm and kind-sounding, only a bit ominous at the end (together with the close-up on a dragon's eyes) where he says "they need me." So I'm not sure how much the story will push on us that he's simply Evil. It could be that the story will leave it ambiguous whether he might actually be right and/or paint him in a very empathetic manner. Then again, in the story so far we've already had several characters talk ominously about how bad it would be to kill the EDs / prevent them from completing the cycle, only for Aurene to magically fix everything and the Commander to just keep going the same route... I didn't get the feeling so far that ANet seriously wants to go the route of "killing EDs actually revealed to be super bad and Commander did massive mistakes!" But maybe they'll still switch to it.

    Summary:

    1. I don't know what exactly it means that mortals "built new lives upon the very thing that sought to end theirs." I don't think it's relevant though.
    2. Kuunavang wants to help mortals continue the Glint Way (or some other way) of ending the cycle of destruction and rebirth because it causes too much suffering to mortals, while Mysterious Character wants the cycle to complete because he's convinced it's The Right Way. This will probably be the main plot of the expansion. The name "End of Dragons" is probably an allusion to the fact that we're almost done killing all EDs now, with Mysterious Character being the last obstacle. So again, main plot is about finishing off EDs to end the cycle. Not sure how Aurene fits into that though.

I believe Jormag will be dead soon but don't know how DSD and especially Primordius fit into this story. The voice could simply be DSD, or its champion, which would make sense. (Last surviving DSD trying to complete the cycle of destruction?) But what's with Primordius then?? Finishing him off in some LW season would be super lame, even if there was time for a whole new LW season after Icebrood is over.

That image on itself doesn't really prove anything. It could be that one server has a night-raid whereas another dominates during the day. I've seen it enough times that the points looked like that in our favor, for a few hours during night which is when I often play, and we still lost the match because that was the only time we were getting points...

But yeah, sometimes you have a server clearly dominate the match and in that case, what the others said...

  4. From what I can tell this is exactly the same as the regular Superior Sharpening Stone except the duration is 1h instead of 30m. The cost to create it is same as creating a Superior Sharpening Stone, except you use 1 regular Superior to create 5 Potent Superior.

Why then is the TP cost barely higher than the regular Superior? Shouldn't it be about 2x the price? Especially given that ascended food lasts 1h, I'd have expected that these are a lot more popular.

    I must be missing something?

    more like 4 ...

Wow, who pays 5s for WPs. Anything more than 2-3s I get around by using an LWS teleport tome or going to LA from HotM and porting to one of the racial cities.

with the time wasted with all that I could have chopped a bunch of trees/mined a bunch of ore that is worth more than whatever saving it might have given

Sure about that? Using an LWS tome is instant from anywhere. Maybe 10 seconds to look up on the world map which LWS map is nearest to your destination.

Going to HotM is also instant, after which you port to the HotM WP (no cost) directly aside the LA portal, then port to the Gate Hub WP (no cost) and run up to one of the racial city portals. Unless your PC takes a long time to load cities, it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds I guess.

    It's a micro-optimization for sure, but if I save 4 silver, it's worth it IMO. :D

EDIT: I benchmarked it and it took almost exactly 45 seconds to get to a racial city via HotM->LA->GateHub. Let's say this only saves me 2 silver. That's about 25 seconds for 1 silver. For 1 gold it would be 2500 seconds = ~40 minutes. Crap. xD

I guess I'll just stick to using LWS tomes or HotM->LA travel for closing continent-size gaps.

Thats good for you. However, I do believe that your statement is a little bit exaggerated. How long exactely did it take for you to get from WvW rank 0 to WvW rank 1200? And how many hours per day were you playing during this time constantly? Where you mainly running with a k-train zerg all the time?

Correction first of all: looks like I'm on 1050 now, for some reason I had 1200 in mind.

It's hard to tell how long it took exactly, because there are times where I play all night with a zerg, then there are times I don't log in for an entire week. I first started to run with the zerg very frequently for hours every night at the beginning of our Corona lockdown and spent all the 24-hour celebration boosters I had stashed. I think I was only about rank 200 at the beginning, and I stopped playing all that frequently after 2-3 months. In the last month I've barely been getting to the final diamond chest every week, whereas during the time I played all night I would sometimes get it the first day after reset...

Too chaotic / too many variables to make a good calculation I'm afraid.

  7. @"ariel.5038" said:It's a rather odd change. It seems aimed at enticing new players into the game mode ("I can get to rank 500 ez!"), but fails to account for the fact you need to max diamond chest rewards for 6 months (not easy at low rank) to have enough tickets. I suspect most new players will give up when they see they need to play WvW for 20+ hours a week for 6 months. By the time you have the tickets you could be fairly close to having rank 2k anyway if you use enough boosters.

The overall effect will be just to cheese off players who have previously committed to the game mode. The only long term goal is now rank 10k. Surely there needs to be something to reward players between ranks 500 and 10k other than an extra pip per tick every few thousand ranks?

There is: capping the WvW skills requires about 1.2k I think.

  9. I swear some people are just looking for things to be angry about. A few months ago I semi-regularly started to run with zergs and use any celebration boosters I had on WvW, and am up to about 1200 already. The people who've been zerging WvW hardcore for 5+ years or mediumcore for 8 years definitely deserve this, it's not like it even gives you anything, it's just something they get to have for their dedication which someone else can't just farm in a few months.

  10. You can have whatever you want so long as I get my option to turn off all the shininess. :D

In WvW I play with "standard enemy/friendly models" + lowest setting for character model quality, which is better than the game looking like a disco, but still leaves a lot to be wished, because it makes the characters look like from a very unimaginative Nintendo 64 game. Even NPCs look prettier than characters.

Is scourge still meta in zergs? Because if it is, that doesnt make sense to me.

Ofc it is, It still brings the most corrupts in the game, ontop of all the barrier and still has pretty strong damage

I'm not a meta expert myself but the commander I run with who's been playing since launch suggested that Scourge will probably be useless in meta. Maybe I misinterpreted his statement and it will still fit a certain role in smaller numbers, but the statement was that Scourge players will have to reconsider whether they will be running Scourge at all in the future, when I asked whether I should make any immediate changes to my build.

Not much has changed. No one took Sand Savant after the previous nerf and now it remains the same. Until Anet revamps scourge altogether, it will never die in WvW. Its design is just too perfect for it.

We were still playing with Sand Savant. 5 targets on target
    or
self is still great. 10 targets obviously overkill.

I'm guessing you're talking about gvg in guildhalls? Because Sand Savant hits 2 people on shade and 2 on yourself in WvW. Unless you take for the extra range (there are better siege clearing classes), it's a self nerf.

Nah, we run in WvW with group sizes ranging from ~60 at prime-time (full squad + randoms) to just ~10 during off-hours, fighting similarly sized groups and taking objectives. I don't know the exact reasons Sand Savant was still recommended but I'm guessing that it's a combination of the better range and the difficulty of placing the multiple smaller shades at the right spot quickly enough.

  13. I totally understand the face-roll and AoE criticism on Scourge. Admittedly I started playing it in a zerg because I wanted to have a more laid-back experience where I don't have to be super focused all the time. Scourge allowed me to do that and still be quite effective. (At least I think/hope I was, LOL.)

But reducing the number of targets on the big shade from 5 to 2 is ridiculous. It just makes it completely useless. Could have reduced it to 4 targets and not on own position, or 3 on target and 3 on own position, or nerf the F2-F5 skills instead of changing target cap, but why make it completely useless like this?

    Doesn't make sense to me.

  14. Does it actually pay off to salvage ectos with something better than copper-fed?

EDIT: Going by the following research, I guess it would pay off. 1.62 dust per salvage vs 1.85 which is a difference of 0.23. Even if we round that down to 0.2, and assume a dust sell price of 9 silver, that's 1.8 silver gained per salvage, which definitely offsets the 57c increased cost per salvage.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glob_of_Ectoplasm/salvage_research

Damn, I just salvaged a whole ecto stack with copper-fed. Guess we all learn from mistakes.

  15. @"Schimmi.6872" said:The 5% difference is enough to make the Silver-Fed the better option for salvaging rares (> lvl 68). But atm ectos aren't very expensive and so the difference isn't very high (about 50c per rare).

Thank you. I've been pondering on that. I'm not sure if this is mathematically correct but if the 25% instead of 20% chance of "getting rare materials" means that I have a 5% higher chance of getting ecto, that means for each salvage (with ecto possibility) I gain on average ecto_price * 5 / 100 coins, which at an ecto price of 16 silver would be 80 copper, which is greater than the price difference of 30 copper. In fact it's exactly 50c as you said so maybe you used the same calculation.

@"VillainZZ.8019" said:Yes. You are missing every point about salvaging. Considering the following situation:

You can buy 2g of gold with just 30 cents, or buy 2.5g of gold with 60 cents, and you have fixed number of purchases. Which one do you buy?

The answer is obviously 2.5g of gold with 60 cents for every purchase, since gold is worth much more than a dollar, so neither "twice the price" nor "only 0.5g extra" matters.

That's an interesting point too but it assumes that I won't deplete my coins through salvaging. I'm not that much of a farmer and nowadays mostly play WvW. After having spent lots on buying ecto to salvage it for luck, I'm actually out of coins right now, though I'm sitting on many piles of crystalline dust that I'm afraid to sell at the currently low prices. (At the same time I worry it won't go back up, or only sink further...)

  16. I just bought both of these, only to notice that the Silver-fed offers only 5% higher a chance of getting rarer mats but costs 2x as much per use. This makes it useless in my view.

Am I missing something? Otherwise IMO the costs or stats should be changed. E.g. the silver-fed could offer a 40% chance of rarer mats.

Decreasing the cost of the Silver-fed further would make the name even less fitting, and I don't really want to suggest increasing the cost of anything so IMO the rarer mats chance of the silver-fed should be increased to 40%. Having 2x the chance of rarer mats at 2x the cost makes sense, whereas the Runecrafter's retains its unique usefulness for salvaging upgrades with a 100% chance.

    1. When mounted up, can't look into a different direction than where I'm going, even though I have "Use Free Camera" enabled.
    2. When on foot, and I change my camera direction (but not walking direction) with left click+drag, then I mount up, sometimes the walking direction will be reset to the camera direction. (I think if I had released the left mouse button and clicked it again.)

The second one is extremely annoying while running away from enemies and looking back via free camera, then trying to mount up as soon as you're out of combat. The bug will make your character take a 180 degrees turn right back at the enemy as soon as mounted up, instead of running away faster with the mount. Might have cost me a few deaths in WvW.

@Taril.8619 said:Sometimes, when I get onto my Springer mount and jump... It randomly veers off to the right...

I've had it happen a couple of times with the Raptor, but it mostly happens with the Springer.

I think this is the same bug as nr. 2 above.

  17. Simple fix for all of this is, just like spawn, make the area around the tactics siege locked, so it cant be placed within 150-200 units, same with food or other items that have interaction, they could also give tactics use priority. Make pulling tactics put out a map chat msg of "Player name: pulled EWP in Lowlands", not only does this help with spotting trolls who do this over and over, but also makes it so that when pulled for real, it's put in chat for people to click on without having to spam the link yourself.

    Loving these suggestions.
