They could simply deactivate them in Raids, PvP and WvW. Balance is a lame excuse for having useless racial skills that could otherwise be a lot of fun to use.

Actually balance is the best reason possible.

Did you read my first sentence?

Of course I did.Part of Arenanet's overall vision for balance states that they don't want one racial option to outperform any other to the point the player feels disadvantaged not taking it.This includes balancing each racial elites against interactions with every class and trait in the game. It is not a worthwhile use of time for what are, essentially "flavor skills".The solution is to water down all racial elites to the point where they cannot compete with even the worst elite option available for any class. When this was not the case the majority of new elementalists were Sylvari because of the racial elite, no matter what game mode they were being rolled for.

Simply waving away three game modes does not address balance. In the long run the current course of action is to not spend a tun of time tuning these powers against every single class and trait in the game. Decisions like this are good for the game's health.

Glider mechanics, a main mechanic in HoT, has been nearly completely obliterated with this change.Updrafts and Ley Lines ensure this is not the case. The glider is still every bit as relevant in the content it was designed for (HoT) as ever. Moreover, if you do the content "in order" the glider is 100% needed to complete Heart of Thorns.

For two, it has changed the gameplay of not only the OP, but the nature of the open world. It is certainly valid for him to state as much and to suggest that it be reverted. They have not retrofitted any content in Core Tyria to require a mount for completion. As long as this remains the case, your statement is false.Core Tyria has not changed, only the way you choose to experience it.

There is a debuff that prevents us from mounting, which lasts just a second after we used Bound of Faith, probably to avoid bugs. I suggest to make that debuff permanent until we reach the ground. This would not only make it feel like a commitment to jump out of our mount, but would also make gliding useful again, because it would become the only way to keep directing ourselves after we jumped out. And it would do all this without breaking the game!

Or you could stop pretending everyone has to play like you and just stop using the power.

When you bought them you already knew the price and the price in relation to the outfit. And now you want a refund?

Plus, there’s 2 skins in the pack. A standard look and ones that glow.

I bought them. I don’t own the outfit. I really like them. Anet probably added flair to them to make them look better as a stand-alone piece. It’s not to everyone’s taste, obviously.

I bought the outfit. Would I like or have liked an option to display only the ears?Sure. But I bought the outfit knowing the price and the features. All the information was there. It's called being an educated consumer.I'm certainly not going to lose my mind on the forums after I buy something when I knew exactly what it was for the price.

  6. @"Mil.3562" said:Unlikely OP and others like him, we don't have the luxury of spending hours for days in a game. But that doesn't mean we don't need the cool stuff in game or we spend less money in this game. All we ask for is to have consideration for this group of players.

I find it strange that you comment about commitments outside the game and then characterize your desire for the Skyscale as a need. You don't need the Skyscale. No one does. It's a virtual item in a virtual word played for entertainment. It's not even required by the game. Not having it is not a progression blocker.

Having less time to commit to the game doesn't preclude you from having any achievement in it. It just means it takes longer. There is no single part of the collections that is unreachable by anyone, regardless of how much time they have to spend playing GW2. People with an hour a day make legendaries. You see the reddit posts all the time.

    To say:

All we ask for is to have consideration for this group of players. When there is absolutely no difference in acquisition for any group of players? When someone who has 1 hour a day to spend on the game has to take the exact same steps as someone who has 5?What kind of special consideration are you looking for?Are you asking for a flat out "purchase" option for the Skyscale for money? Because the last time I checked all factions in this community, hardcore and casual alike, were baby raging for more in-game earnables and less gemstore.

This is indeed what is happening lately in this forum community. Lots of forum participants trying very hard to paint a incomplete picture of what the true community wants.I agree that something here is being misrepresented.

  7. @"sarbonn.7182" said:I, on the other hand, really like HOT and POF, but my one problem is that they're extremely difficult and I'm really tired of dying all of the time. I keep trying to learn the gimmicks that are required to survive, but I don't seem to get the hang of it. And I really want to play through this area. Last night, I reached a new part of HOT and went forward, literally about ten feet, and I was seriously overwhelmed by some elite that was rushing through the area. Dead again.

I keep trying to get information to help me at least create builds, but I keep finding opposing information, and whenever I ask for help in game, I get the inevitable: "Just play whatever you want. All builds are great." But they're not, and it's really frustrating.

And keep in mind, this is coming from someone who actually loves the game, not someone who comes here to complain.

You may have some luck posting for some advice in the Players Helping Players forum. The whole "play whatever you like, it's Open World" is a meme that experienced and skilled players like to spread.Post your build, preffered play style and content and see if people can help you out.HoT can be a gut check. There is nothing wrong with adapting your gear and build.

Just do yourself a favor and try to honestly solicit help instead of beaking off like the OP. As you can see by the dogpile, this forum is growing increasingly hostile to that.

Instead of a forum post have you tried just playing better?

Most.Useless.Advice.Ever. And you clearly lack comprehension because when people talk about it not being a difficulty issue, they are
    NOT
refering to the difficulty of mounting up, but the game difficulty of dieing often (or in this case: The difficulty of dieing is
    NOT
relevant within this thread about aggro range).

Death is the game's fail state.Thank you for proving my point.

  9. @Zuldari.3940 said:Well i went through all the initial hoops not happy at all with the amount of stuff you have to get and time you have to wait to get the mount. But the straw that broke the camels back was finding out after i got the eggs, that i have to do every LW4 story in order to proceed forward with getting the mount. Yeah new account i dont have those LW parts, and im not paying them to buy them. I wish they had made the requirements clear from the start. So the mount is not accessible to all players, new players have to pay for it, real nice anet.

Oh and before someone comes in to fanboi for anet about the roller beetle was the same. No it wasnt, you couldnt even start anything for the roller beetle until you unlocked the story for it. I know i had to buy it, the skyscale is not like that, it made it available to start for everyone. Shady very shady.

Arenanet gave away access to the previous episodes for the 4 weeks prior to ep6's release. And you want to call them shady?

    That's an ugly attitude.

@"mindcircus.1506" said:I see no reason to accommodate a portion of the player base who do not spend money on this game.

In PvP games/modes, the single most important thing to provide players with is a competitive experience.Lots of players bring more competition, like it or not. That's truth, and almost every single game's competitive PvP scene has stats to back that claim by tournaments won vs regional play-hours/populations.

Would people play League of Legends if it had imbalanced matchups and long queue times? No. That's also what our sPvP field is like, and look how successful that's been going  Nobody in League would ever say they'd never want to face a F2P player, because that has no bearing on the experience of playing the game.

Unlike PvE, you need actual humans to beat in competitive play. Low/no cost upkeep to help those out in other parts of the world and never stop building player populations is absolutely essential to growing a competitive community.

Unfortunately, ANet's also failed to maintain their existing playerbase with this atrocious profession design/balance/powercreep. Nobody's going to
    continue
playing when it stops being fun.

GW2 it is marketed the same way to the PvP crowd as it is the PvE. You are given a limited taste to the experience which is in itself pretty enjoyable. But if you want to be serious you will need to pay a few dollars (and let's be honest here, it's not a lot of money for a single expansion).

What League of Legends does is habitually release overtuned Heroes for cash and then later tune them down. They cash in on those who want to be meta by offering a purposefully overtuned new hero and "forcing" those who want to be even casually competitive to habitually upgrade into the new hotness.

Personally I find Arenanet's model to be a fair bit more honest.Serious online PVPers will never gravitate towards an MMO for their primary source of gratification, all but the truly hardcore have moved on from MOBAs. League's not the juggernaught it once was, largely due to a playbase that moved on to other games, tired of being milked.Riot's speedy downfall is not one to hold up to Arenanet and say "here , do what THEY do".They are a different company, with different values and very different methods of measuring success. If NCSoft thought Riot's money was still the one to chase, they would still be throwing money at MXM.

  11. @Soulock.1752 said:I'm living proof as I play Core Mesmer for Solo/Party Roaming and hunting squishy Zerg tail ?? there are other Core Players who Roam/Zerg in WvW that can proof it! ?

Any player can do this. The absolute easiest players to kill in WvW are the ones at the tail of the zerg. They tend to be the lowest skilled or newest players. Many simply curse the game format and respawn without even fighting back. They are struggling to keep up.Being able to score kills on these players is not a measure of a skilled player or a viable wvw build.

There is no class that does not get a direct upgrade in power from at least one (if not both) of their respective elite specs. Running some kind of meme build and picking off PvE mains trying to get thier gift of battle is not the proper measure of a good build.

This is by design. While the PvE progression offered by the expansions has been mostly vertical, the PvP progression offered has indeed been horizontal.

The best advice in this thread is the one who said if you aren't willing to buy at least one of the expansions, WvW in GW2 is likely not something for you to invest yourself in.

  12. Zhaitan's weakness is his hunger for magic. In the personal story we systematically starve him of that via the last few parts of the campaign. This leaves us with little more to perform the death blow than hit him with a laser, We had actually been exploiting his weakness unknowingly all along.

Not the best answer, but it is the official one.

    Now this thread may die.

  13. @"Fundor.2098" said:So now that we have our own dragon... well, technically the second one, I guess... could we have a title to go with it, please? :)Nothing would scream more EPIC than a "Dragonrider" written under the name of a person literally riding a dragon! <3

Only you are not riding a Dragon. You are riding a Skyscale. It's explained in the story that they are different species.

Should they give you the title "Bullrider" for riding your Spinger?

  14. @BlueJin.4127 said:One of the reasons I don't do PoF (and LWS4) is because of the annoying aggro range (900 in PoF compared to 600 in previous zones). Playing in PoF is like eating at a restaurant filled with flies that constantly annoy you. I noticed that enemies in Dragonfall were aggroing from ridiculously long range so I measured the aggro range and... the aggro range in the new zone is 1200...

Seriously... are you kitten kidding me? I was hoping that Anet would some day go back and reduce PoF aggro range down to 600 like everywhere else so that I'd actually enjoy PoF, but it's even longer now... Sigh...

I don't like to start upset posts like this but this just pisses me off so much... Seriously, is this the future of GW2's design? If it is, I'd really like to hear now from Anet so I can just quit and not waste any more time on this game. I personally hate the 900 aggro range enough that if the whole game was like this, I'd just quit the game. Increasing it to 1200 for future contents means I have no reason to continue to invest in this game. Having enemies that are not even in my screen aggro out of nowhere is just so disruptive and annoying. It takes the fun out of exploring open world. I can't even look at the map, activate vistas, remount, chat, etc. before some stupid suicidal fly pesters me to kill it first. This is about as fun as walking down a street and having people constantly hand me fliers. It's about as fun as constantly getting robocalls. It's about as fun as having my email spammed by scammers. It’s about as fun as visiting a web site with pop up video ads.

EDIT - And of course, there are some people replying it’s not hard when this thread is not about difficulty (not saying anything wrong with players who find PoF hard). This thread is about the annoyingly long aggro range making it not fun to explore due to the constant disruptions. Learn to read.

I personally enjoy the flow of combat and mounting on PoF maps. I would be bummed out if they changed it to suit the playstyles of people who wont adapt. Seeing ANet bend to the will of people who dont want to adapt or improve would sadden me.

Why do some many of these posts start with "I know it's RNG..." and then go on to whine? If you knew it was RNG....if you understood what that really meant.... this post would not exist.

  16. @Mortifera.6138 said:

@Mortifera.6138 said:Just admit it, guys: no expansion spells trouble.

Not really. Pretty sure this scenario isn't any different to when LWS1 came out and went straight to LWS2. They are just using a previous format at the moment until they can get the resources they need to make the next expansion because NCSoft made a bunch of projects that never launched meaning they wasted a bunch of resources (note: I say NCSoft, not ANet because NCSoft were the ones taking people from ANet to do other projects that went bust).

Back then, we didn’t think we were
    ever
getting an expansion. Now that we’ve come to expect them, we should be asking
    when
    there’s a new one, not
    if.
    Again, trouble.

Again, no it isn't. You're mistaking LS as being separate to an Expansion. LS themselves are content updates that can literally be sold as Expansions considering the fact that they add new maps, new areas and new mechanics. The reason they want to focus on this right now is so they can work with the current structure they have (again, cuz of NCSoft), once they have that structure worked out and have a good understanding on where they are at, as well as NCSoft literally not wasting their revenue, they are more than likely to make a new expansion.

And while this isn’t everything we have planned for the game, it at least gives you better insight into its development.
The team is passionate about not only supporting Guild Wars 2, but continuing to grow it alongside all of you.

Bold words reiterates that LS and the stuff they announced on here
was not the only thing they had planned, they have more planned on the horizon.

If LS is expansion-like content, why are they reusing expansion rigs (
    cough
griffon) for their in-between xpac content? That alone shows expansion content is of higher quality than the scraps we get in between.

Your argument dies when you base it on the griffon. The griffon itself is a reused Jackal rig.You just prove with this that you are inventing reasons for outrage that aren't based in fact or logic.

  17. @schloumou.3982 said:

@schloumou.3982 said:Yep. Those displayed ranks are kind of insulting too. It only leads to low rank players beeing harassed and focused by the self proclaimed roamers. Needs to be done something.

Actually as a (roamer before the advent of the mount) I never attacked anybody under the rank of bronze. I feel they should at least have learned the game by bronze rank. And I even go as far as to just ignore the low rank unless they make it absolutely hard to ignore them then I have to delete them but i dont stomp i just walk away. If they are unlucky some guy will come by and stomp them and i get a "Small Loot Bag" If you all gave out precursors you better believe id be at your spawn all day.

That's very nobel but we can't rely on self imposed rules here. What we need is damage reduction for lower ranks. A diamond player for example should do max 70% damage against an platinum player.

So the better I play the less damage I do?The reward for my skill is a nerf?

Ideas this bad are why the devs should never listen to this community's input.
